Death was just incredibly sexy, and let’s be honest, I’ve never disliked a Hades character my entire life. There’s just something so sad and beautiful and tragic, and Thanatos did not disappoint. Again, some strange ethics in this book just like the other Four Horsemen novels, but I really don’t mind. Kind of wish there was a little more struggle between Lazarus and Thanatos like there was in War, but it did make sense considering the plotline and themes of family in the novel. REREAD: I don’t know if I was just grumpy in 2018 but 2024 me LOVED this book. This is definitely a top 3 Judith McNaught - which is saying something. Royce/ the Wolf was HOT. The verbal sparring between him and Jenny was A+, and the development of their relationship was *sigh* so cute and authentic - the perfect example of a show not tell romance.
There is also something to be said for how McNaught gave Royce a type of softness that is rare for her male characters. It gave a certain depth to his character that just made him so lovable and sexy in combination with her description of his larger than life, scary, brooding physical description. Also, the last 20% - the final test between Jenny and Royce - was *mwah* perfection....more

I have always felt a connection with Lara Jean-- Asian American, slightly awkward, in love with fantasy, a romantic, meticulous baker, and overall someone who prioritizes family as their number one. And I GO to UVA! The entire issue about college filled me with distress, mainly because I remember going through all of those conflicts when I was a senior in high school. I won't lie-- I was a little bitter over the UNC over UVA thing (I'm biased,) but the true gem had nothing to do with that. Laura Jean and Peter's story was perfection. I loved the first two books in this series, but this last surprise really solidified everything for me. Peter is someone who will just be everyone's favorite book bf. And the thing is-- Jenny Han was able to create this basically perfect character who nobody will be bitter about. It IS possible to have a jock who is sweet and kind and thoughtful. It IS possible to have someone handsome pay attention to you even when you think you're unnoticeable. It IS possible to have this kind of young sweet love last. I believe it....more

What an amazing group they are indeed, and Schwab was truly amazing at letting the reader dive into each of their personalities, motives, and dreams. I even felt and ached for Holland, the tragic antihero. The romance between Alucard and Rhy made me tear and want, a perfect touch. Kell and Lila were fierce and explosive, an even lovelier duo. The brotherly relationships and friendships that connected them all was the finishing touch....more

Jonah and Kacey's relationship was so sweet and lovely, I don't think you have feelings if you don't break down by the end of this book. The tears won't stop. My heart goes out to those who give the gift of love to those who deserve it-- a gift spectacularly detailed in this novel by Emma Scott. I found an appreciation for religion and history within myself that I had not realized, and while I can't exactly relate to Angelo's and Bianca's story I did bring tears to my eyes and aches to my chest. It may have a little bit too "perfect" for me, but it was a nice contrast to the painful, ugly world around them. It's obvious that much research was done in preparation to write this novel, and the amount of thought in each word and piece of prose was outstanding. I'd expect nothing less from my favorite author....more

I'll get the parts I didn't like out of the way first, and then address what I loved after.
Feyre and Rhysand. Oh god, they were the most boring parts of the book. There was literally no sexual tension between them anymore, and I had to suffer through hours and hours of smooshy, gushy, disgusting "romantic" scenes. Please, I hope I don't have to live through that again. They were missing the exciting spark that had existed throughout the first and second book! Honestly, if I have to hear about him feasting on her again, I'll barf.
Feyre in general. The girl annoys me. She always has. That's it.
The drama, oh the drama. I swear, some of those scenes were just so cheap. Like there wasn't enough to make you cry, so she just stuck some "OH MY GOD NO" moments in there so you would freak out.
The lack of blatant reality. As much as I love romance, there is no way all these stunningly beautiful couples just match up and all end up fine in the end. ESPECIALLY, since there is a freaking war going on and NOBODY takes any losses. Like seriously?! I don't want anybody to die, but at the same time, if JK Rowling can do it, you can too. I think death adds a certain depth to a novel that this one is missing. Now, every time a character just disappears, I'll probably never take it seriously ever again. Because SOMEHOW there will be a freaking loophole and everything will end up fine again.
Now what did I like?
The new characters. Nesta and Elain were a wonderful addition. Nesta, in my opinion, is everything that Feyre is not. She is strong in her faith, reliant to trust all, and careful with her words-- never a hypocrite. I just loved her.
Cassiel, Azriel, and Lucien. God, aren't they sexy. While Adriel has always been a favorite of mine, Lucien redeemed himself in a beautiful way, but Cassiel stole the show. His relationship with Nesta made tears leak out of my eyes, and god, do I hope to see more.
I got to learn things about the courts and high lords that I never had before. And I loved it! I just love the idea behind kingdoms and that shit so sue me. I'm cheap.
Tamlin. This is what made my review a five star. Without him, this book would have meant nothing to me. In the first book, I had felt an attachment to Tamlin that was just due to him having the strong characteristics that I loved-- as a strong, fierce alpha male. In the second book, I struggled to step away from him because there was something unspeakable that kept me from dismissing him when all arrows pointed toward "bad." In this book, I felt the entire spectrum of emotions. I nearly abandoned all hope of him redeeming himself until Maas pulled her puppeteer strings and opened up a world of complexity and forgiveness for this character. I was completely wrecked, and fell completely back in love. His character was so honest, that it was the only thing I felt was REAL-- that I felt was JUST and made sense. So many things in this book were crap, but Tamlin was so true to himself and to his emotions. I think there's a depth to him that extends far beyond that of anyone else in the book, and Sarah Maas handled it perfectly in the end. I hope he finds happiness, and if I see him in the next books, which I am crossing my fingers I will, that he escapes the darkness of his past and present, starting anew with someone who is WORTH him and who has the patience and love to truly understand....more

Even if I knew that the love scenes were simply, well, love scenes. They were important, but I'm a stubborn girl so they still pissed me off. This is probably one of the best pieces of fantasy fiction I have ever read. I damn near highlighted this entire book. The chemistry between Aelin and Rowan was palpable in every scene they had together (and even when they were apart!) And oh god, Lysandra and Aedion-- Elide and Lorcan-- Manon and Dorian-- they all had sparks flying.
But really ALL HAIL THE BITCH QUEEN. Damn does she get cooler and more cunning with each page. THIS is what I want in a book heroine-- this badass, confident, and self-accepting female who owns not only herself but everyone else. She will legit be on my book boyfriend list because I love her so. It was amazing-- I found my mouth wide open at every plot twist, cunning trick, and delicious secret that she revealed.
I found myself captured in not only Aelin's story like usual, but this time in others' stories as well. Elide and Lorcan's journey was a highlight-- beautiful, exciting, and very touching. Elise does NOT disappoint, and the strength of her character-- of all the female characters in the novel actually-- was astonishing. There is no weakness, no pity, no sexism found here. It was pure brilliance.
I enjoyed getting to know Fenrys and Gabriel, two fascinating additions to an already great plot. It's amazing when in such a small short of time you can get a huge look into each of the characters, their lives and their development.
But that ending-- OH THAT ENDING-- it got me so hard. I could actually hear the Lord of the Rings theme song playing behind it in my head. It was that EPIC. I cannot WAIT for the next and final book comes out. If it's even close to being as good as this one, you can be sure I'll be reeling in astonishment, happiness, pain, and tears like I am now....more

It reminded me of Tarryn Fisher's Love Me with Lies trilogy, yet about ten times more heartbreaking, beautiful, exceptional, and ultimately, thought provoking. What if everything in our lives happened like ripples? This book explores the magic of a dream, of a hope, and of a love. I haven't felt this emotional or touched my a book in a very very long time. I wanted to scream and cry (which I did,) and laugh out loud at the amazing story that Fisher has weaved. Helena is such a wonderful main character, nerdy, kind, and filled with angst in a way that you never really get annoyed by her. Another great character, Greer, was like a beautiful fairy, and you know it's amazing when you have two female characters Ina book that you love. Now what can I say about Kit? I think that while he made me want to rip my hair out and punch him half of the time, he still made my heart flutter, and yes, I love him. I can see a lot of parallels between this book and the Love Me with Lies trilogy, but I think that this book was completely superior in every which way. If every novel was like this one, I would never ever stop reading. Fuck love? -> Fuck, love? Amazing! I'm still wrapping my head around the million intricacies of this book, the symbols and the metaphors that you don't truly understand until they whack you in the face. He is possibly one of the hottest most amazingly sweet yet intensely intimidating book bfs I have ever had. He literally made me swoon every time he opened his mouth (even when he spoke in another language.) To be honest, this would have been one of my favorite books ever, but I had a few problems with the morals of the story. The plotline is slightly sexist, but what are you gonna do? Obviously, Kristen Ashley has to create the manliest men every time she lifts her pen, so I am completely okay with letting a few things slide. OH! I also learned a new language hehe.
Update: I just watched the Game of Thrones and it literally is almost identical!!...more
