These books are so intricate and amazing, and the older I become, the more I appreciate all the small details that I've missed over the years. This time I read it instead of listening to it, and it was very much like revisiting an old friend. I also love how Diana was still playing around with her genres with this. Outlander was a classic Highland Romance. Dragonfly in Amber was a Political/War (Romance). Voyager is a Second Chance/High Seas/Murder Mystery. She really does write something for everyone. I hope that the show does it justice, because there really is just so much that goes on in this one.
30/04/2014 read: I love these books so much. I've probably read Voyager at least half a dozen times, if not more (there was a time I would read these books once a year)
This time I listened to the audiobook. Oh my goodness. The feels. Oh the feels.
Oh god. The scene in the Print Shop. do you know how hard it is to not cry on the bus while listening/reading that? I am sure the other passengers thought I was a loon.
So much emotion in this book. So much going on that I wasn't okay with. (view spoiler)[(For obvious reasons of not liking Jamie sleeping with other women, but I understand why he did etc.) (hide spoiler)]
And oh John Grey. I do love John Grey. So much.
I love how so many things circle back in these books, and it's only until it's all over that you realize just how intricately woven these books are....more

Not because it wasn't a good book, but because I had just graduated (or was still in) High School and so I still had American History (specifically the Revolution) getting shoved down my throat every time I turned around.
Now that I am so many years out of school and rereading it, I have enjoyed it so much more this go round.
But oh dear gods did I start bawling like a baby simply knowing what was coming regarding Roger. It was not as sobbing-in-the-corner inducing as Voyager (or even Dragonfly in Amber) was, but it still kicks you in the feels both good and bad.
The audiobook narration was once again remarkably done. All the different voices. My gods, I wish I had Davina's skill at oration. I'm still not sure if I dislike Bree simply due to the narration, or if I just get annoyed by her in general. (though this book she was far less annoying).
I had forgotten how little Fergus was actually in this book.
One thing that amazes me with these books, which I only noticed because I reread Outlander last week, even though I was in the middle of the series. Jamie's 'voice', Diana really did do a wonderful job aging the both Jamie and Claire. But I notice it with Jamie the most, there is a remarkable difference between Jamie in Outlander, and Jamie in Fiery Cross, which can only be explained by them, well, growing up. I don't think it was the narrator, as she uses the same voice for Jamie in Outlander as she does Jamie now, but he is definitely a different man than he was. Diana does an amazing job at that. ...more

I love itI have read this book many times over the years, and every time even though I know what is going to happen, it doesn't fail to entertain me. I love it, and love immersing myself in the musical and crystal world that the now dearly departed Anne created.
When being allowed to pick what books I read, her books were quite honestly the first books I found as a young pre-teen. She helped me navigate some pretty rough times in my life, for which I am forever indebted to her....more

And then it got put down and over the next 8 or so years since then, I've kept looking at it on my shelf thinking I need to pick it back up. Then, the movie came out, and I held off watching the movie in hopes of reading the book first again. That did not happen.
The story again is enjoyable enough. There were a few occasions where I was sitting there thinking the characters were being very silly, but I am too tired to give examples at the moment....more

And I say that having read a lot of the book physically, so it wasn't just the narrator.
If you like boxing, you'll like this. If you don't care about boxing, you might still like this.
All in all I liked it.
I did not like Pilar. She was just a selfish cow for the bulk of the book.
The rest of the characters, I was mostly blase about. But I did like it....more
