"People heal a whole lot faster when they're with someone who loves them."
A List of Cages will be the most emotional book I read this year, I feel. It was painful. It was so damn good that I couldn't put it down. If you know me, you know I go to bed before 10pm every night without fail, I'll usually stop talking to you at 8:30pm as well. However, I was up until midnight finishing this book and crying into my pillow.
I've thought about this book for a week and I still can't possibly formulate a review that properly articulates my feelings for this book so, have some gifs:

I just honestly can't believe how good this book was for me. To be as basic as possible - I can't even. The gifs are in no particular order either, the whole book I was on edge. I didn't want to put it down at any time because I had to know what happened. There is no way to even represent how much I enjoyed this book. ...more

“People are exactly where they need to be when they need to be there."
Goodbye, Rebel Blue was an interesting contemporary. It was unlike another I had read. It had romance but unlike in other contemporaries, it wasn't the primary focus of the story. This story was about growth and ultimately becoming who you are. Living up to your own expectations and not doing what others want of you. It was embracing the fact you can change from events that happen in your life. That ultimately, everything happens for a reason.
I honestly wasn't expecting the depth of the story and I was beyond shocked in some parts. I was wide-eyed and staring at my phone like "oh, my gosh". It was a great feeling, let me tell you.
This book tells the story of Rebecca Blue, or better than as Rebel. The story begins with her in detention where she meets Kennedy Green, a girl who ultimately leads to everything that happens in this book, with family and friendships. I think the reason I couldn't rate this book four stars purely because I didn't feel everyone was too torn up by the death of Kennedy Green. The girl who was the star of everything and always helping. I didn't believe the level of grief in the book. I've had people from one of my high schools die over the past three years, from suicide and other events. People I wasn't close with, and I was overwhelmed with sadness. To this day I still feel sad for this young lives that were ended before they even turned 18.
Characters
Rebecca, or Reb or Rebel, was amazing. She didn't care. She doesn't like shoes, she doesn't like rules and she loves fresh air. She swears, she does what she wants and she doesn't give a hell who she hurts in the process. That is until she calls Kennedy Green a moron and the girl commits suspected suicide the same day.
I loved her personality and the way she did what she wanted. I loved how she didn't want to do what her aunt told her. I loved the development throughout the book. I just loved her.
Nate is our token boy. He is good and always doing what everyone wants him to. His father wants him to play major league baseball, so he's going to do it. People want him to be student concoul representative (is that right?), so he will. That's until Rebel.
Both these characters have such growth in this book that it warms my heart.

I will be displaying my emotions through Ron Swanson gifs.
Love and Gelato was a book I desperately wanted to love. I mean, the set up was perfect. Italy, love and gelato (which I've never actually had but it sounds good). Italy is a destination I have always wanted to travel, and how could you not with all the culture present in the cities.
However, as I began to read this book I knew it wasn't going to be a finish for me. Why? Well, the writing just jumped straight into the plot without any other pretenses or introductions, straight to the fact a house was in a cemetery. Then, we have one of the protagonists, Lina, first line:
"It's a cemetery." My voice was like weak tea.
What? What in the name of all things holy and blessed does this mean? Is weak tea really the metaphor you choose to use? I knew this book, and I would have a problem here almost instantly. I can handle crazy metaphors sometimes, but this was a no and was at the very beginning of the book, so it could only go downhill. For me, it did.
Not only did my hatred for Lina become cemented in the first 100 pages of the 900 page eBook but I was subjected to countless more strange and "quirky" people. However, Lina was just rude. I understand her mum had died six months previously, and it seemed like that was leading up to be an excuse featuring through the rest of the book, but she was rude. She was unwilling to give her recently discovered father a chance. I don't understand why because she isn't even sure if he knew about her existence.
Also:
"Aggressively normal."
Is a sentence I never want to hear again because what?
Oh, we also get to introduced to Lina's totally tacky awesome best friend, who is like soidiotic funny.
“Why are you being so quiet? Is Gravedigger there?” “I’m in my bedroom, but I get the feeling that sound travels in this house. I don’t know if he can hear me or not.” “Great. So you can’t even speak freely. We’d better come up with a code word so I know if you’re okay. Say ‘bluebird’ if you’re being held hostage.”
Like Ron's burger, this completely missed the mark for me.
Oh, and lets not forget that Addie and Lina are both very judgmental creative:
“Addie and I had once won a costume contest dressed as Tacky Tourists. These two could have been our inspiration.”
I can't even add onto that. I understand there is a "tacky tourist" look, but honestly, if I went travelling I would probably be a tacky tourist myself and guess what? That is fine.
Now, one last quote before I conclude this review. The quote that made me decide this was not for me in any way:
“Howard still had steam curling out of his nostrils.”
I understand some people may think I didn't give this book a fair go, considering I decided to DNF at 10%, but honestly, I couldn't subject myself to this. I couldn't put myself through head banging sentences and characters who are meant to be funny and different but are simply rude. It's possible this story is super cute, but I won't be sticking around to find out.
Honestly, what this book felt like was a jumble of words that shouldn't have slipped past an editor, in my opinion.
I should mention, I’m not a DC fan. I’m a massive Marvel girl. So, I don’t know a lot about DC at all. I only watched the Wonder Woman movie because of the hype but I loved it. This is why I decided to pick up the book. That, and, Leigh Bardugo wrote it and she’s fantastic.
This book was nothing like the movie. There were obviously similar parts (mainly Diana’s naivety) but it was completely it’s own. The story itself was engaging and had an incredible build up to the ending, which leaves you desperately wanting more.
I truly can’t rave about this book enough. It is sweet, it is jaw dropping, and it has diversity inclusion (can’t speak about if it is good or not). I did predict some things, but that didn’t take away from my experience of the book at all.
P L O T
The story is told through two perspectives; Diana and Alia. Diana is our Amazon, who has been created on the island and not earned her title. Alia is a descendent of Helen of Troy and carries a curse that means anger and war will follow her.
Diana makes it her quest to help Alia, to take her to a spring to purify her and end the curse for all female ancestors to come. Along with that way basically, nothing goes right and complications come from every direction.
The ending of the book had my heart cry. Very few books I’ve put down and wanted another book despite knowing it’s a standalone. It hurt. I need a sequel and I need to see my precious babies all over again.
Also, the side characters are incredible. Jason, Nim and Theo are all very well thought out and add to the plot. They’re not shuffled to the side, they all take their spotlight. I’m just mentioning them here because I won’t be mentioning them in my next section.
C H A R A C T E R S
#D I A N A
Diana is our Wonder Woman, obviously. She feels like she doesn’t fit in with her sisters and that she needs to prove herself. That is why when Alia turns up on the island it is the perfect chance for her to prove herself.
I loved Diana’s character. I loved her growth and her confusion to the mortal society. She was hilarious and completely unaware of it, which only made it better in my opinion. I couldn’t stop giggling at her dialogue and inner monologue.
She was honestly brave and an admirable character for how much she adores the friends she makes.
#A L I A
Alia is a young girl who has been left in the world with only her brother. She stumbles across Diana and her island after her boat that she’s on explodes and kills everyone aboard. Diana saves her and reveals information to her that she never even wanted to know.
I didn’t like Alia at first. She was slightly annoying to me at first but I grew to love her. Her character was one that ended up showing amazing qualities as the book continued. She grew as a person and it was incredibly powerful. Her growth was a girl who had not been allowed to make any of her own choices to one who would fight to keep the peace. It was truly a lovely way of going about it.
Alia really grew and with that growth, I found love for her and definitely enjoyed reading her sections, definitely how she viewed Diana and the friendship that blossomed between the pair.
O V E R A L L
For me, Wonder Woman: Warbringer was similar to the TV show Jessica Jones. I was completely involved and just had to binge it. It was not similar in any way to the themes or messages of the show. I just mean in the way I absolutely loved it and both female leads are kickass and incredible.
I highly recommend this book if you’re a fan of Wonder Woman or super heroes, otherwise, this book may be a hard miss for you. I saw some reviews saying the book is slow, but I found the writing to be incredibly engaging and easy to read. Leigh Bardugo is a fabulous author and it definitely shines in this book....more

I didn't think much of it, simply pushed it back on my TBR when I got it when it released. However, I watched PolandBananasBOOKS interview with the author and I knew I had to read it as soon as I humanly could manage it. Boy, am I glad I did.
This book was spectacular with the amount of historical accuracy (in my opinion) shoved into it. It was interesting to follow two characters from birth and as they grow. Each journey we are taken on as a reader until we are completely invested in their lives.
It's books like this, however, that make me want a rating scale out of 10. I would have given this around an 8 or a 7, except the rating of 3 I've had to give it makes it seem like I didn't enjoy it as much as I did.
Despite being slow in some parts, making it slightly tedious, it was a good book and I can't fault it.
Characters
Ladislav or Lada as she is more commonly called, is an ugly warrior. Why have I mentioned she's ugly? Because it's a frequent mention throughout the book. She doesn't use her face to get where she wants in this historical setting, she fights for what she wants and makes herself known amount men. She is a fighter and (view spoiler)[a prince now. (hide spoiler)]
Lada was a character who was what you would call an anti-hero. She wasn't a good person. In anyway. She was ruthless and she would slit your throat without thinking twice. I loved it. I guess some people wouldn't, but I am so over weak female characters that she was beyond refreshing. Especially in the time period of the book, since women were sold off for wives and to have babies. Lada despised that and continued being who she was despite societies expectations.
Radu was the pretty brother of Lada. More focused on Islamic religion and being kind. His plot twist of (view spoiler)[being gay (hide spoiler)] was incredibly obvious. (view spoiler)[Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure being gay in Islamic culture is a massive taboo? (hide spoiler)]
I didn't enjoy Radu's chapters as much as Lada's. I though him weak and immature in most parts and constantly thinking about only himself. I understand he was bullied but he got incredibly tedious as he mourned the fact he murdered someone.
World Building
I don't even know how to describe it. It was amazing. This author took the time and effort to understand the era and incorporate as much fact into the book as she could. It was beautiful.
Plot
Felt like it spanned across an 8 book series. So much happened just in this first book that I have to keep reminding myself that this is just book one. So much more to come in the follow up books and I can't even hold back my excitement.
Writing
Enchanting would be the best world to describe it. It was dense and fact filled. Every sentence directed the plot somewhere or provided foreshadowing. I could barely put the book down. I honestly didn't want to.

However, the story quickly went downhill for me. I mean, I stopped reading in order to do my investigative report on koalas (don't ask). I mean, what does that say? I really felt that Sarah lost her grasp on the story as it continued, with extra plots falling in that weren't needed and just to make the characters go through more trials. This lead to me being completely underwhelmed around the 80% or so mark and wanting to slam my head against a wall. This meant that I honestly didn't care about the completely open ending.

Characters
Sydney
[image]
“Everyone, this is Sydney,” she’d announced the day after our talk when I finally gathered up the courage to accept her invitation to join her and her friends at lunch. “She transferred from Perkins Day, drives a sweet car, and likes root beer YumYums.”
The gif of Hermione I have used for this particular character, our main character, is completely representative of my feelings. I liked Sydney enough to clap for her, but she was boring enough that I have no reaction to it. I personally felt that Sydney had little to no personality. She was constantly doing what others wanted her too and whereas other characters had things they enjoyed doing she did not.
There was also the fact that she was passive as hell. What does this mean? She wouldn't stand up for herself. In any situation. She wouldn't even attempt to stand up for herself. She would try, once, and then stop altogether. Sydney didn't even tell her parents that she felt uncomfortable around her brother's best friend, who made me feel icky. It may just be because I have a close relationship with my mum but I would have told her instantly if that happened and she would make sure that person was no longer in our lives. I just hated Sydney's parents, but that's another story completely and I don't want to talk about it in this review.
Sydney had a thing about being invisible. I didn't get it, and Sarah didn't really write it too well. I mean, I just couldn't grasp why she was invisible. Because of her brother? I just felt it was an annoying plot line that only came up when Sydney needed reassuring she was pretty or something by Mac.
Mac
[image]
“The first time you came into Seaside,” he said. “You weren’t invisible, not to me. Just so you know.”
The point of Mac is obviously to be the love interest, but I would have preferred the book from his perspective. He was a lot more interesting than Sydney in the way that I could relate to him, I can't relate to people who tend to have a lot of things given to them (Sydney). I liked Mac. He was a great character, who was given a personality, unlike Sydney. However, I did prefer his sister Layla over him. That's a whole other review.
Mac was a great character in the fact that he brought light into Sydney's life. But, I found my annoyances. He was so conscious about his weight and what he ate, and everything he ate had to be mentioned which made this book tedious in some sense. I don't care that Mac is eating grapes or celery or crackers with hummus. What does this add to the plot? I personally thought he had an eating disorder and that would be a problem that rose, but no. He was a fat kid turned skinny. I can understand wanting to keep the weight off, but why was Sydney mentioning it every time he ate?! Then he ate a packet of chips and she told him not to? No thanks.
Despite how ranty I am getting, I did enjoy Mac as a character. His family was great.
Also, there's a merry go round behind the woods near his house. Do I want to say, how freaking random is that? The merry go round gets mentioned a total of about four times before it's forgotten. I honestly expected it to feature a bit more considering the fact it's on the cover.
By merry go round I mean something like this, is it called something different if it has horses and all that?
Plot
The plot, the big one, I didn't mind. This was because the romance wasn't at the forefront of everything. It took a backseat. But, mini plots kept popping up everywhere. Literally, everywhere. They added nothing to the characters and, in fact, kind of ruined them for me.
Writing
The writing felt disjointed. We were meant to know that Sydney liked Mac, and I think we got two sentences before they were kissing. That doesn't happen for a while in the book, but still. These characters showed no inkling of liking each other at all. That was the trend the book followed, random things happening without much explanation, or things moving way too fast to the point I was confused as to where that happened.
Overall
Overall, this book felt slightly messy to me. Too much happened and not a lot of explanation was given for many things. Everything that could go wrong with these characters did. Now, a gif to round it all up.

History Is All You Left Me is an honest and real tale of grief, OCD and how a first love can affect your life. I'm not even sure what to say apart from woah. I had some really big problems with this book but I can't deny it was beautiful. I read a thread about how the compulsions which the protagonist Griffin faced when it came to his OCD are completely real since they are what he, Adam, face on a day to day basis. I felt like that was interesting, as I don't know a lot about OCD, except that it is trivialised a lot.
This book started and I was almost instantly crying. I had to refrain purely because I was sitting on the couch with my mum and I didn't want to explain what I was reading to her before I knew if this would pass the DNF mark for me.
As soon as this book starts you know Theo is dead. I, however, completely missed the first sentence in the blurb and had to have Caitlin tell me - trust me, I know I'm an idiot - and from then on I was a little...disappointed. I don't know. As someone who's mum was a swimming teacher I don't get drowning deaths, but that's just me personally. HIAYLM switches between "History" and "Today". It is an interesting format as we get to know the Griffin when he was with Theo and the Griffin after Theo. Both are pretty messy, if you ask me.
Griffin was a little insufferable at times, but I have never experienced grief so it is simply because I couldn't relate to the emotions he was going through. I felt sympathy for him and everyone who had known Theo, but the dysfunctionality of it all was hard to wrap my head around. As the book continued I even found myself hating Theo. I'm not sure if that was a normal reaction or not still.
I said in my pre-review I wasn't sure how to write this review and even now while I'm in the middle of it I'm stuck. Kind of like HIAYLM. The middle of this book fell short for me. I was going to stay up all night reading but out of nowhere it got stuck. I was on the verge of DNF'ing but Caitlin convinced me to keep reading because we were 3/4 of the way through. To keep it real, I skipped an entire chapter but still had a good grasp on what happened and never felt like I missed out on anything.
That's no discredit to the author, Adam Silvera, though. The writing of this book was engaging and beautiful, it was simply the way the plot line was going that held no interest for me at that time. I mean time literally, it was 11pm.
So, this morning I finished this book and I wanted to cry. I didn't cry once throughout this and I'm not sure why because I had cried about roast potatoes almost an hour before starting HIAYLM. I wanted to cry, but I didn't connect to the characters on a level that let the tears fall.
HIAYLM is a heartbreaking tale with an ending that doesn't change. That was the hardest things to come to terms with. That Theo was dead and there was no surprise resurrection that was going to happen. So, I am now sitting here still in shock and recommending this book to you. ...more

“People see what they wish to see. And in most cases, what they are told that they see.”
The Night Circus was a book that fell short for me. It may possibly be the immense hype and recommendation I received from friends. Now, this isn't to say this was a bad book. It just wasn't the book for me. I personally would have given it two stars for how it interested me, but I couldn't help but give it an extra star for the descriptions the author used. Sure, in some parts it felt over descriptive to me, but it is hard not to point out the writing when talking about this book.
This review is probably going to be short due to my lack of knowledge about the book. I was confused to put it simply. I couldn't follow the plot and that may have been my fault becasue I started to watch New Girl and settle into my new house while reading this.
However, I couldn't stand the changing of characters and jumping of time frames. I obviously know who the main characters are, but I found it so difficult to follow what had happened previously to lead to certain events since they remained unexplained. It was what had me struggling so much with this book.
There is also the fact that I couldn't connect with any of the characters. My favourite characters were the Murray twins, but I hated the chapters with Bailey most of the time. I just didn't care for any of the characters, they felt pretty bland to me or that the author had tried to hard.
The plot had me completely bamboozled too. I couldn't understand what was happening half the time or where it was going, it put me to sleep most nights from sheer boredom. Now, to be fair I may have not been in the right mind frame for the book and maybe that was why I struggled like I did. I don't really have a reason.
Overall, though, the writing of this book is beautiful and intricate it was overall a severely overhyped book for me that fell incredibly short on the mark. Which disappoints me because two of my favourite people recommended this to me. If you're in for a book a tad more complex, this may be for you. ...more

EDIT 05/07/16: both Lindsay and Sasha have liked this review, omg screaming.
EDIT 03/07/16: I just watched part of Sasha's snapchat story where she's speaking about how Lindsay and her wanted Andi to be cutthroat, feel no remorse and just be brutal. I'm sorry, but that's extremely not how they portrayed Andi. Several times in the short novella she's seen feeling remorse for the lives she's taken, marking them on her blade. I don't believe that is the sign of a cutthroat space pirate and if they would like her to be portrayed in the specific way of being a badass they should take a tad more care in the way they are writing Andi's thoughts. She came across as weak and unrealistic to me, and even more so it's unrealistic to see her as a badass. Sasha also states that Andi is meant to be brutal and gruesome which again was in no way highlighted during this novel. I hope these thoughts they have are explored more throughout the novels further releases, but for now I see this as wrong. This doesn't take away from my enjoyment of the book. I did enjoy this book, and I won't change my review, I just got infuriated during the snapchat story as its wrong (I'm sure Sasha and Lindsay may see Andi as cutthroat) these are just my opinions.
Zenith was one of my most anticipated books of this year since its announcement. I've loved Sasha on YouTube for years, and I may not have heard much about Lindsey but she had many glowing ratings on her solo books. I went into this book with low expectations though, not for any other reason then that I wanted to love it either way. I should have given Zenith more faith than that!
I've never been one to typically like science fiction, it's never interested me and space typically scares me. I forgot all this during this book though, diving into the world and absorbing every bit of information possible. I was planning on reading this book once I finished reading Falling Kingdoms but once I started I was suckered in from the prologue (I think that'd be correct) and there was no escaping the absolute beauty of this book.
I read a review comparing this book to Throne of Glass, but I honestly haven't read that series nor anything by the author. So, I was maybe able to enjoy this book in its entirety. I would, however, compare this book to Guardian's of the Galaxy.
In this book we follow Androma Racella, also known as both Andi and the Bloody Baroness, she's portrayed as "ruthless". In my opinion, ruthless is the unforgiving way of going about your life usually in a violent manner. Due to my personal opinion, I believe Andi doesn't represent the particular definition due to the remorse she feels to each life taken. Lira, Gilly, and Breck make up Andi's all female crew on her ship. As they fly on their ship they're encountered by a group of what I would call security guards of space, a battle commences and a deal is struck - thus creating the lead up to the next book.
Some complaints though, because not all is well in the world of my reviews. I didn't like the font of the ebook and for some reason I couldn't change it. Maybe it was iBooks but I found myself struggling to read it a few times because of the font, that could be me nitpicking though. The sentence structure as well got a tad jerky in some cases, which was infuriating in many circumstances it seemed 80% of sentences were three words or so. The opposite also happened too, some sentences seemed incredibly long and full of commas. Another complaint would be the length. I've been following Sasha's updates so I know that it's being released in parts but I'm just greedy and want the entire book like yesterday.
