Once again Mehl had me This was such an amazing conclusion to the series, the Salt River Strangler, and even the growing love between Tony and River. Once again Mehl had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. Not only following a new case (which was fascinating!), but wondering when the strangler was going to make his move. In case you were wondering, I read it all in one sitting.
The thing I appreciate most about Mehl’s writing is her faith themes. They are always blended into the story perfectly, and just naturally come from the characters at the appropriate times. It’s not preachy by any stretch of the imagination. But it’s truthful, relatable, and oh so touching. We’ve seen I think the most growth from River in this series. Well maybe that’s not being fair to Tony. They’ve both grown, and to see it all sort of come together in this novel was wonderful. Reminds us that we’re all growing with the Lord. We’ll have setbacks, but we need to dust ourselves off, get rid of the doubt, and keep our focus upward.
I think of them all, this was my favorite case for River and Tony. The fact that we got to see tidbits from several cold cases, thanks to the podcasting storyline, was really intriguing to me. I would listen to her podcast! But it also makes you pause and wonder if there are similar podcasters today, could they be in trouble as well? I mean my brain was going all over the place thinking about this. And Mehl writes so well that I can vividly see everything play out in my mind. Which can be good and bad – ha!
With exciting twists and turns, and a fast paced ending, suspense readers are sure to enjoy the last book in this amazing series. While I’m sorry to see these characters go, I know Mehl has more writing up her sleeve, so I’ll just anxiously await to see what comes next. Not only do I highly recommend Cold Vengeance, but I highly recommend the entire series. And honestly, they should be read in order so you can get the entire experience of the Salt River Strangler. Just trust me on that one. ...more

Her faith themes are throughout the entire book and just speak right to your heart. There’s not a ton of romance (which by the way is fine because it isn’t needed), but the little she puts in is spot on.
Cold Threat is another home run novel delivered by Mehl. I did not want to put the book down for one second (even though I had to – life gets in the way of reading lol). The writing was engaging. The characters were relatable. The bad guy POV’s were so intriguing, I almost wanted more! And trying to guess who the person was, well I was totally wrong. But that’s because Mehl is such a master at keeping you in the dark about it. I was floored when I found out, but also delighted. Looking back, I could see how and why, I just didn’t pick up on it while I was reading.
We still get glimpses of our villain from book one, and that was just as exciting. I cannot wait for book three to see how that storyline all plays out. If you are looking for a great read that will have you sitting on the edge of your seat then here you go guys. Just make sure you read book one first. Thought you may not be lost in reading this one first, it will add to the reading experience and give you the backstory on River and Tony. But if you like a clear cut ending, maybe you want to wait until the entire series is released. ...more
"If you're always planning every step and coming up with contingency plans, are you really trusting in the Lord?"
A Run at Love is another winner from "If you're always planning every step and coming up with contingency plans, are you really trusting in the Lord?"
A Run at Love is another winner from the amazingly talented Toni Shiloh. If this book were in the Kentucky Derby, it would beat out all the others just like Secretariat did years ago. Yep, it's that good. Full of romance, kissing, faith, conviction (yes the Lord can convict you through your reading!), and so much more. Forgiveness, second chances, relatable characters, horses, sweet and funny goats, and bro texting (ummmm give me all the bro texting please!). Have I talked you into reading it yet?
I'm always a little hesitant about the friends to more romances. I just feel like sometimes they can be dry with little to no chemistry. That is NOT the case here thankfully. Shiloh brings Piper and Tuck together with playful banter, tough conversations, love, devotion, honesty, and oh that chemistry. Let's just say the first kiss - yeah I was fanning. But there were also tears. Especially when Tuck bared his heart. Oh he was so sweet, and the way he talked about who Piper was on the inside as being important - yeah if I were her I probably would have fell to my knees.
Now, I don't want to give any spoilers, but I did enjoy the secondary storyline for Piper's parents. That's all I can really say, except I enjoyed what Toni did with it. It shows they too were Christian, yet human. Prone to make mistakes. In fact that was a big takeaway/reminder from this story - Christian's are not perfect. Not even close. We shouldn't judge or assume things about others, and we certainly shouldn't put them on a perfect pedestal.
But perhaps the biggest take away for me was what Tuck needed to learn as well. God's plans are best. His timing is best. We can make all the plans we want, but if it doesn't fall in line with what God wants, then there's really no point. We're wasting time and will end up frustrating if it doesn't follow our plan to a t, which by the way it never does. Shiloh did a great job of showing Tuck's emotions and thoughts as he struggled and tried to find his way around this concept.
Another bonus? We get a peek at what's coming next in the series and let me tell you - I am here for it! I need Chris to get a gal. He's so funny, and I think I would enjoy his story very much. Release day can't come fast enough lol. But until then, make sure you get your hands on this book. Then carve out a good pocket of time to read. Derby hats not required, but they do make it more fun. ;)

Readers that like strong, romantic, loyal, hard working swoony heroes are going to go crazy for him! This is my favorite hero from Mandi Blake, and I’m pretty sure no other will compare. And talk about a friends to romance troupe – this one is high up on my list. Sweet romances are definitely my jam and I know when Mandi Blake is the brains behind the story I am in for a treat.
Better Together has so many things I want in a contemporary romance. Banter. Faith. Marriage of Convenience. Friendship. Romance. Wonderful secondary characters that add to the charm of the story. And main characters with a past. Though I think both Colt and Remi made a bigger deal then they needed to about their pasts, I could sort of understand it. They chose to define themselves by their family, something we should never do. I know this first hand. But they both grew after circumstances pretty much forced them to, and I thought Blake navigated it perfectly.
Every time I read one of Blake’s stories, it’s automatically my new favorite. BUT I don’t think any of her novels are going to top this one as being my favorite. Remi and Colt are the sweetest couple, and I didn’t want to say goodbye to them. Hopefully they’ll make a cameo in the next book in the series! I highly recommend Better Together for contemporary romance fans. It’s got plenty of chemistry, and a love story that will leave you unable to put the book down.

Oh what a fun read! Woodhouse does such an amazing job of keeping a reader on their toes with all the pieces of the puzzle to the things happening at Oh what a fun read! Woodhouse does such an amazing job of keeping a reader on their toes with all the pieces of the puzzle to the things happening at El Tovar. Plus, she weaves such a beautiful faith thread, perhaps one of my favorites It's so seamless, timely, and simply stunning.
Let's start with the mystery. There was a character that I just could not figure out. I didn't understand why he was there, how he fit into the story, but every time he was on the scene I wanted more. Honestly it was really irritating (in a good way) that I could not figure him out. And then BAM. I did not see what Woodhouse had coming, but it was brilliant. Sorry no spoilers, but I can tell you that looking back, now I see it. So look for those clues!
Ruth and Frank's love story was a slow one, and really kudos to Frank for waiting basically forever. Here's the thing - while it probably seems unrealistic that a man would wait as long as he did, I can see why he did. Ruth needed to come to terms with what happened to her, and her worth as a child of God. Her self esteem was so low, and there were multiple times while reading that I wanted to shake her. But then I thought, well I am probably like her in different ways myself so maybe I should learn from her! Her character growth didn't happen quite as quickly as I wanted it to, but sometimes that's life.
All in all, Woodhouse weaves such a wonderful story. Historic fans will be all over this edition of the Secrets of the Canyon series. Highly recommend! I received a complimentary copy of this book. I was not required to write a favorable review. All thoughts and opinions are my own....more

I mean, I love all her books. My favorites have always been the Maple Run Series – every single one of them. But this book? My goodness it must have been so difficult and yet rewarding to write because you can see all the time, effort and possibly tears that she put into it. This book blew me away.
First of all, I need to talk about the friendship between Lamont, Tuck and Chris. Not only are these guys hilarious (I giggled many times), but they are genuine and offer sound advice to each other. I love how Shiloh added their text messages throughout the book. Let’s face it, that’s how we communicate with each other these days. Plus, there was a scene where they were literally all sitting at the same table, and still texting. Yeah, I giggled a LOT when I read that scene. Anyways, you don’t often see male friendships like this in novels, at least not as much as I would like, and I honestly couldn’t get enough of it.
Then let’s talk about Lamont’s sweet mother. I love the spiritual honesty she brought throughout the book. Most of my favorite parts were when she was passing on her spiritual wisdom to either Lamont or Neveah. She reminds me of one of the ladies at my church (who has passed on) that was just someone you could do to with anything and know that she was praying and that she would always give sound advice, even when it was tough to hear. I hope to be like that when I’m older.
Of course we can’t forget the romantic thread. Perfect. Brilliant. Lamont and Naveah are my favorite couple of the year. They are not afraid to share their faith, and stick to the morals and rules that they have set in place. I think they are such an inspiration for young couples today. In fact, I think all young adults should read this book! I cannot praise Shiloh enough for writing their story. They were not perfect by any stretch of the imagination, however they showed how young couples can date, be happy, and set limitations. They were joyful, playful, flirty, tender, and so much more.
I cannot talk about this book without mentioning the faith thread. Not only was it brilliantly and beautifully written, but it was bold. Not once was it in your face, however it was across the entire story, and you could tell it was important to these characters, especially Lamont and his mother. The special thing though was how much it convicted me, and spoke straight to my heart. So many good points and life lessons sprinkled throughout the book that point to the Lord and how He alone deserves our praise, trust, and attention. So many different reminders I needed, and will need for the rest of my life. This is a book that will stay with me for a long time, and will be reread probably a million times.
The Love Script is a combination of rom-com, fake relationship, strong faith, and fun. With characters to adore, lessons to learn, and laughs that have you crying, The Love Script is a book that needs to be in homes and libraries everywhere. I highly recommend this book. More than that, I plead with you to go get a copy and start reading. Then tell me how much you enjoyed it afterwards!

Someone who will listen. Pick them up when they are down. Stand aside while they reach for the stars. Watch them love another while their heart breaks. And then swoop in as a charming hero when it all falls apart. Ok, Blake really was patient and kind, and just oh so swoony. Maybe we need to talk about something else ;)
Here's the thing. While this may have a Hallmarky feel to it, it's really different. First, the faith thread is amazing. It's bold. It's non apologetic. It's exactly what I wanted. Second, Blake and Everly didn't just automatically get together and fall in love. No, there was good timing. There was things that got in the way, but not like cheesy or forced things. Just natural life. The flow was realistic. And Blake was dreamy. See there I go again lol.
Seriously guys. This contemporary romance is a must read. The series in fact. Who doesn't love a loyal, strong, faithful cowboy in their books? Yeah... I'll just leave it with that.

I told my husband as I was reading that it was like I was reading an episode of FBI (a show I love). I couldn’t put it down!! Pettrey’s writing style is so good. She pulls you into the plot, adds twists and turns, and doesn’t let up until the very end. I also love that every so often she throws the bad guy’s POV into the mix. I love seeing both sides!! Again - just like watching an episode of FBI!!!
No only is there tons of action, a fast paced plot line, and a sweet romance in these pages, there’s also a beautiful woven in faith theme. Pettrey just puts in into the story so effortlessly, and I am here for it! It’s not preachy, it’s just a natural part of conversation for these characters.
I highly recommend starting the series from the beginning. You see some recurring characters and it’s good to get everyone’s back story. But even if you just jump into this one, I don’t think you’d be lost. You’d just be missing out on some great stories ;)

A story of second chances, disappointment, hope, faith, opportunity, desperation, and romance. Woven in were so many life lessons for us all. And even little pockets of smiles - like when Norah said she just wanted to read books for a whole week without feeling guilty about chores. So do I Norah. So do I.
Norah and Quincy’s road reminded me slightly of Redeeming Love, although there are obvious differences in the storylines. But it had that same redeeming, saving, hopeful thread. After reading the first few chapters I wondered how Fordham was going to write their journey. I mean, it’s romance so you just assume they’ll end up together right? And she far exceeded what I thought would happen. She wrote a storyline I didn’t expect honestly and I’m thankful for it. It touched on some hard topics, but topics I don’t feel should be discounted int he CF world. She brilliantly out Quincy on just the right path to find Norah.
Norah and Quincy both had a tough past to battle with. To learn from. Grow from. And Fordham treated these characters perfectly. They didn’t always make the right decision, such as life really. Aren’t we the same? That’s why some of the lessons in this novel packed such a punch. I could relate to them in some way.
I always love reading novels by Fordham. I know they’re going to be poetic with beautifully written faith themes, delicately handled situations, thought provoking lessons, and tender romance. This novel had all of this and more. I highly recommend reading this stunning historic novel. Be prepared for all the emotions, and lots of soul searching. It’s worth the ride!!

There was action, suspense, romance, swoony hero moments, amazing heroine acts, danger, excitement, faith and so much more. I cannot even put into words how amazing the first book in this new series from Lynette Eason was.
Let's talk about Eason's strong heroine. Penny was just so calm and collected during the most anxious moments of the book and I have to say, I appreciate Eason writing her character this way. A lot of times you don't see heroines act this way - they are often questioning themselves, too fearful, or waiting for the guy to save the day. I love seeing strong women in stories - I mean they are out there in real life after all, why not write about them!? But Penny also had her vulnerable moments, which really made her a well rounded character. One you could connect with, empathize with, and maybe strive to be like a little bit.
And Holt? Well......swoony alert here girls. He is hardcore - protective, fierce, and strong while also loyal, caring and sweet. He has his own vulnerabilities, which Eason perfectly brings into the story. But it's his strength and protectiveness that really impress me.
The action and suspense is non stop. There's a couple of creepy times too, but I'm good with that. The intensity is high, so I recommend leaving a big chunk of time to read once you get started. You are not going to want to put it down, trust me. I am eagerly waiting for book two, and will be stalking Eason's website and social media for any glimpse I can of it.

Mimi Matthews has completely taken my breath away with her stunning writing style. Not only does she pull you into the setting, the time period, and the story, but she somehow manages to pull you into the minds of both our main characters. So much in fact that it’s hard to take a break from reading and live in the real world. I could not put this book down, did not want to put this book down. There was too much at stake.
First let’s talk about Matthews’ research. Her ability to weave in so many historical details were amazing. Not just your typical things to find in a story – how people acted, dressed, spoke and lived. This was so much more. She brought emotion to the story, emotions that people probably did feel in that time period based on their status, their race, their trade. While doing so, she also made it relatable to current times. I really cannot explain it other than to say it took my breath away. Ahmad’s character in particular. He was so aware of how “people” perceived him, both because of his Indian origin, and his trade. His emotions were so authentically written as well. No agendas. No hidden context. Just true to character form, in a way that really makes you think about the way we (as in society) used to and to some extent still do, treat people. Not only did Ahmad put a guard around himself, he protected those he cared about. I can’t really go more into it because I don’t want to spoil, but let’s just say his heart for helping others is just so sweet.
Then there’s the romance. Oh my word the romance. It is slow burning, sizzling, sparks flying everywhere, toe curling smooches, go reach for a fan, fantastic. I mean, Matthews keeps it clean, and this is reader is thankful for that. She really does show how you can write something that gets the temperature rising, while maintaining cleanness, elegance, and respect for the readers. Perfectly. Masterfully. Poetically. Ahmad and Evelyn made the story so much more than I expected it to be. They defied so many things of their time, and yet showed the beauty of love. True love. No matter the class, nationality, trade, or societal role.
The Siren of Sussex is a must read for historical romance fans. Matthew’s delightful plot line, swoony hero, breathtaking romance, and powerful messages will have readers turning the pages into the late hours of the night. I highly recommend reading this book. It would be a disservice to yourself if you didn’t ...more

I mean it was good to begin with, but this is my favorite (did I say that last time!?). I think I really liked the characters the most in this one. The fact that Abigail had a slight inkling as to what might happen when she visits the inn was fun for me. And then when you throw in Evan, who still thinks they are in present day and asks multiple people to borrow their phone just made me giggle and laugh out loud. I could see their reactions when he would ask for a phone too, which made me laugh even harder.
I also liked the history with this couple the best. I don’t want to give anything away (spoilers), but McGee did a graet job presenting their back story, and putting them together in present day/ time travel day. With cameos from some awesome historical people, I just couldn’t put this story down until I was finished. It’s a fast read, so I just read it all at once!

Let's start with Josie. This girl has my heart, honestly. She has so much that she's dealing with (I don't want to put any spoilers), and yet somehow manages to just forge ahead. But she certainly doesn't make things easy for herself, and she is VERY stubborn (a trait I can easily connect with). In the midst of her own issues, she does manage to come up with a pretty amazing plan to help her mother. Through twists and turns, and even some lessons learned, you see Josie's character grow in some pretty cool and unexpected ways.
Then there's Tripp. Get your drool cloths ready girls because he is a good one! This loyal, giving, caring, hunky hero is, well, you might as well say Josie's knight in shining armor, whether she wants to admit it or not. The love for your family and friends, the love for the Lord, the love the Lord has for us, and of course the love between Asa and Shamira. She easily transported me back to biblical times, and gave my heart much to ponder about what it would have been like to live then. Back when they didn't have the entire bible like we do. They LIVED when Jesus lived! And so believing He was the Messiah was probably difficult for some. Especially when you have those like Asa's father who are so against Jesus (by the way that character portrayal was awesome!).
I think what I appreciated most about this novel was how easily Van Mourik brought me into biblical times. Biblical fiction is such a tough genre to write. You have to stay true to the bible, but also bring in your own creativity, meanwhile making sure that creativity doesn't contradict the bible. Now I've seen Van Mourik's writing journey by following her on social media, but I think even if I hadn't, I would still see the time and energy spend into research by the way the book plays out. From the wedding in the beginning of the story, and the intricate details of that, to the thoughts surrounding those wanting to get rid of Jesus, to the thought of Asa - struggling between believing the Messiah and doing what his father tells him to do. There are so many intricate details that some readers may skim over, but I encourage you to go slow. I took my time with the story so I could enjoy each and every moment.
Jerusalem's Daughter did just what I want a biblical fiction novel to do. It encouraged me, and had me digging for my bible wanting to learn even more. It had me thinking of how I would have reacted to the circumstance of Shamira's family, and if I would truly have believe in Jesus during that time. I want biblical fiction novels that force me to dive in, reflect, and grow closer to the Lord. I know we are going to see VanMourik's name right next to great biblical fiction authors like Mesu Andrews, Tessa Ashfar and Connilyn Cossette, and rightly so. She belongs there.

Um, yes please!!! Oh am I glad Toni Shiloh has written this story. It's easy to find a MOC story in historic times, but if modern ones can look like this, I'll take more please!
First of all, Shiloh always writes characters that I absolutely love. Trinity and Omar are flawed, hurt individuals that happen to me in some tough spots. But also best friends like forever! I love that aspect of the story for the record. Continuing on.... they really need each other and don't even realize it. They love each other and don't even realize it. But I did lol. And that's what I love about this book - their realization and growth of friendship to more was so subtle, so realistic, that even I believed it. Most MOC stories seemed forced to me. Almost like the author puts certain situations that are not realistic at all just to make the characters fall in love. Not the case here. Their love for each other grows slowly, genuinely, and really in a touching way.
Now let's not forget the stars of the book - Omar's kids. They are so gosh darn cute and steal quite a few scenes I might add. But they add a layer of depth to the overall story line. Yes Omar is suffering after the loss of his wife, but we get to see the kid's part of that too, and I really think it brings so much more to the story. And while it isn't necessarily told from the kid's POV, you still get that in the narration of their scenes. There were several scenes that just melted my heart.
This book has all the feels, and honestly I hope that Shiloh brings us more of these types of stories. I know this reader will love them! I highly recommend this book for contemporary romance fans. It will hit you in all the right places :)

How she manages to bring so much charm, laughter and swoony moments into a book, yet balances it with some tough issues, moments that you have reaching for the tissues, and hitting your heart is all the right places. This book is a plethora of emotions, but boy oh boy is it good.
Blue. Her character just really spoke to my heart. She had such heartache and turmoil in her life, and while mine is absolutely nothing like hers, Rosche writes her character in such a relatable way that you feel as if you've been there with her. You get where she's coming from, and you can just connect with her. I typically connect with characters that I have experiences in common with, and so this was such a pleasant surprise for me.
And let's not forget our swoony hero. Yeah, Thomas is just that. Swoony. I mean the guy goes into a burning building to save people. Need I say more? Yes I do lol. His heart. He has such a heart for people, and is just totally humble about it. He doesn't want to make a big deal out of stuff, he just wants to do what's right. Um....where are these guys in the real world!? Just kidding. Thomas had his own issues too, but Rosche dealt with those in a very surprising and satisfying way.
