Once again Mehl had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. Not only following a new case (which was fascinating!), but wondering when the strangler was going to make his move. In case you were wondering, I read it all in one sitting.
The thing I appreciate most about Mehl’s writing is her faith themes. They are always blended into the story perfectly, and just naturally come from the characters at the appropriate times. It’s not preachy by any stretch of the imagination. But it’s truthful, relatable, and oh so touching. We’ve seen I think the most growth from River in this series. Well maybe that’s not being fair to Tony. They’ve both grown, and to see it all sort of come together in this novel was wonderful. Reminds us that we’re all growing with the Lord. We’ll have setbacks, but we need to dust ourselves off, get rid of the doubt, and keep our focus upward.
I think of them all, this was my favorite case for River and Tony. The fact that we got to see tidbits from several cold cases, thanks to the podcasting storyline, was really intriguing to me. I would listen to her podcast! But it also makes you pause and wonder if there are similar podcasters today, could they be in trouble as well? I mean my brain was going all over the place thinking about this. And Mehl writes so well that I can vividly see everything play out in my mind. Which can be good and bad – ha!
With exciting twists and turns, and a fast paced ending, suspense readers are sure to enjoy the last book in this amazing series. While I’m sorry to see these characters go, I know Mehl has more writing up her sleeve, so I’ll just anxiously await to see what comes next. Not only do I highly recommend Cold Vengeance, but I highly recommend the entire series. And honestly, they should be read in order so you can get the entire experience of the Salt River Strangler. Just trust me on that one. ...more

Wright gives readers just enough to keep the pages turning. Enough to get your interest, get you thinking and wondering. As the story moves along, the intensity builds - again at a slow pace. And when I say slow, I don't mean boring. I just mean you gotta hang in there, and look at each piece of the puzzle as it's given. Then, about the 2/3 mark, BAM. There's that fast paced, lots of things happening, everything is coming together wonderfully moment you were waiting for. And you forget to breathe on occasion, but it's ok because the end is soon. And boy is it a good one.
I just love the way she writes. How she brings the dual timelines together. You don't always see it, until you do if that makes sense. And sometimes I can look back and go, yeah I could see that now. I was just too caught up in the storyline to pay close attention to the minor details that you don't think matter. They do matter by the way.
Night Falls on Predicament Avenue has everything I've come to love from Wright. A good creep factor, a "Scooby-Do" explanation of sorts, mystery, flawed characters that we can relate to, and even a little bit of romance in there! I honestly cannot get enough of her writing, and highly recommend to anyone who loves a good suspense. Just maybe read it in the daylight hours :)

You get our amazing main characters - Christian and Andi, and by the way they are an AMAZING couple (more on that later). But you also get a little storyline with two side characters (not naming them so there are no spoilers) - and I think/hope that's leading us to book two. I love all four of these people.
Why?
The chemistry is spot on. Like chef's kiss. For both pairs. I mean I was basically giddy when reading them.
But I also love the way Christian sees Andi for who she is, and who she says she is. He doesn't believe what others say about her - right from the beginning. It made me immediately like him, and honestly it just showed his true character (SWOON). I feel like this novel had more romance than suspense, but I was okay with that. The suspense was just enough to keep me guessing, and seeing Christian and Andi working together to solve it made it even better.
Dani Pettrey is an auto read author for me, and once again she proved why. I cannot wait to see what's next in the Jeopardy Falls series!

This book. No, this series. Patch's best work. Seriously - she had be worried, crying, heart pounding, all the emotions guys. The creativity, the descriptions, the emotions, WOW. This book (well again, series) is not for the faint of heart. But if you are a suspense junkie, and love shows like Criminal Minds, then you're in for a treat.
The POV from the victim - yeah there's a big plot twist with that one. One I was not expecting at all. Wasn't even on my radar. And the other plot twist at the end!? Oh my lanta it was good. Patch is such an amazing writer. I mean I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. If my schedule wasn't so busy, I would have read it in one sitting. I wanted to read it in one sitting - but alas I couldn't. And honestly? That was ok because I got to enjoy the story longer. It is deliciously creepy. That's an understatement, but I am not sure how else to describe it.
Also..... I have to comment on Ty's back story. It was so interesting (you'll have to read it to know what I'm talking about). I don't remember reading another book that focused on a family like his. And it was fascinating to see how she weaved it into the story. Plus, I wanted Ty to see what a true relationship with the Lord looked like. I won't say whether he does or not, because spoilers. But I will say this.....there is a very beautiful and poetic parallel of Jesus laying down His life for us that completely knocked me off my feet. Full on tears here.
But back to the storyline. Lots of twists and turns, and moments where people have to make big decisions. Patch handled them all in a realistic way, nothing was so graphic I was running away from the book (but yes there are some things that may be hard for a sensitive reader to read), and I really just had fun, albeit suspenseful nail biting fun, reading this story. Highly recommend for suspense and thriller fans - just be sure you read the whole series!

So much so that I never want their adventures to end (take note Pepper Basham!). They have so much fun, a sweet romance, cute kisses, and let's face it - sometimes a whole lotta trouble! But that's why I love reading them so much. To see how they'll get out on the other side.
What I really enjoy about this story is that Basham introduces us to a new character or so that gives me all the feels for an upcoming story for them (maybe!?). I can't say more because I don't want to give away the ending, or the middle, or well anything lol. But at times it was almost like we had two wonderfully written storylines that intertwined when needed (which was quite frequent ha!).
With mystery, Freddie and Grace, a reader can't really ask for much more. Well, maybe except for hot chocolate and a fuzzy blanket. Grab a seat and get ready for a fun ride. In fact why don't you read books one and two while you're at it. Already read them? Well, it's time for a reread friends! You just cannot have enough Freddie and Grace :)

Combine that with the fact that it’s written by the lovely Rachel McMillan and I was sold. I didn’t care that the book had been out forever and I was just now reading it. What matter is I read it, and now I want to devour the rest of the series.
Merinda and Jem are simply put, way before their time. And yet they didn’t let that deter them from solving a mystery, and quite well I may add. Some of their disguises were delightfully funny, and that made reading this story that much more fun. Not at once did I feel squeamish, but instead found myself rooting for these underdogs and trying to solve the mystery right along with them.
McMillan easily took me back in time to historic Toronto, somewhere admittedly I’d never been in a novel before, and I loved it. Her vivid descriptions made it easy to imagine every scene as it played out. This is a setting I want more of, and thankfully I will have that as I search out the rest of the series. I think historic fans will adore this charming mystery!
McDaniel is always a favorite to read. Her stories have so much depth, mystery, laughter, and more. In Spotlight and Shadow is no exception.4.5 stars!
McDaniel is always a favorite to read. Her stories have so much depth, mystery, laughter, and more. In Spotlight and Shadow is no exception. Not only the mystery of each time period separately, but the mystery of how the two worlds would collide. Let me say this, it was done perfectly.
I really can't say which time period I enjoyed reading more, probably both the same. In historic time I loved reading about Sophie and Sterling and the mystery of the Mirage. There were so many time McDaniel surprised me with these little plot twists, and honestly I couldn't get enough of them! I can't really gush on this without giving spoilers, so I will just say they were so well done, I didn't expect most of them, and they made the book so much better.
But then there was Elise and Pierson, and well, swoon. Pierson is just such a fantastic hero. All the star qualities you swoon over, but also vulnerable at times, and real. I'm talking like chef's kiss good here guys. There are so many parts of their story that I loved, and all of them are spoilers, so......I can't really comment lol. BUT trust me when I say they are a fabulous couple. The mystery over Elise's father came to a conclusion I was not expecting, but boy did I love. In fact, it made me tear up a bit.
McDaniel has been on my radar since her debut novel and I just cannot get enough of her stories. I highly recommend In Spotlight and Shadow. There's love, mystery, danger, second chances, and so much more. Historic and contemporary fans alike will fall in love with this novel.

There was adventure, romance, mystery, suspense, action, and so much more. Then add in the chapters that were a peek back in time and wow. This was a story that kept me on my toes! Not only was I trying to figure out what the secret of Aspen’s mom was, but also trying to figure out who was going after Aspen herself.
And let’s not forget the cute carpenter! Garrett can come to my town and work anytime lol. What I actually liked about him the most was the way he openly talked about his faith, his loyalty to his family, and his determination and hard working ethic. Is he put in a tough position? Sure. Did he handle it exactly the way I wanted him to? No. But that just means that Robin Patchen is a good author and chose to write his character authentically instead of force him to do something different. Trust me when I say this – he will be on your book boyfriend list. He’s a nice guy, and one that you’ll be swooning over.
Patchen had me sitting on the edge of my seat reading this novel. I was surprised how it turned out in the end – I had the wrong person all along. But honestly? That’s what made it so great to read. I love being wrong about the whodunnit. It means the author creatively put things throughout the story to throw me off the trail. Patchen brought everything together perfectly in the end, and left me wanting to follow Aspen and Garrett after their story ended. Thankfully I have a pretty creative mind, so I was able to work that out ok ...more

I was so excited to dig in, as suspense is one of my favorite go-to genres. Kate Angelo - welcome to my must read author list. You have done a fantastic job writing a book that I could not keep my eyes away from.
So many things I liked about this book, but perhaps my favorite it the fact that we have a "disabled" character. I put it in quotations because to me, Grey was a regular guy who really didn't let his disability totally get the best of him, and tried to live as normal a life as possible. Sure, there were some moments, which provided some great character growth later. But overall he was just a swoony hero. I'm not really sure which got to me more - his protectiveness over Christina or Boss. And Boss! I love having dogs in stories, but I really have a soft spot for vets. Oh goodness I enjoyed when he was around!
The other thing Angelo did was provide a great plot twist! I kind of wondered a time or two throughout the book if this plot twist may come, but then she'd throw me off by putting some other aspects in the story. And then BAM - there it was. It was so well written, and really knocked my socks off. But here's the thing - I had empathy for this person. And I can't say why or how (spoilers), but I wasn't real mad like I am with other bad guys. Having empathy for the bad guy is a tough sell, but Angelo managed to pull it off like a champ.
I have three pieces of advice. 1 - read this book. 2 - put Kate Angelo on your watch list. and 3 - make sure you watch for the rest of this series to come out. I promise it will be worth your while!

I told my husband as I was reading that it was like I was reading an episode of FBI (a show I love). I couldn’t put it down!! Pettrey’s writing style is so good. She pulls you into the plot, adds twists and turns, and doesn’t let up until the very end. I also love that every so often she throws the bad guy’s POV into the mix. I love seeing both sides!! Again - just like watching an episode of FBI!!!
No only is there tons of action, a fast paced plot line, and a sweet romance in these pages, there’s also a beautiful woven in faith theme. Pettrey just puts in into the story so effortlessly, and I am here for it! It’s not preachy, it’s just a natural part of conversation for these characters.
I highly recommend starting the series from the beginning. You see some recurring characters and it’s good to get everyone’s back story. But even if you just jump into this one, I don’t think you’d be lost. You’d just be missing out on some great stories ;)
Bottom line - this is a must read suspense novel that will have you sitting on the edge of your seat. I highly recommend!! I received a complimentary copy of this book. I was not required to write a favorable review. All thoughts and opinions are my own. ...more

I've been there and witness first hand the sweet turtles going out to sea, so that part of the book was so nostalgic for me. Not only that, but I could smell the water, feel the sand, and the breeze in my hair. I felt like I was on the island with Torie and Joe.
Now let's get to the actual story. Coble is such an amazing author. She pulls you into the story so effortlessly. Not only are you attached to the characters, but you're invested in the mystery. I thought for sure I knew who was behind everything, but I should have known better. And I don't want to say my guess so I don't spoil it for you, but boy I thought this person really had a hand in it. I mean, I also suspected the real bad guy, but I thought they were working together. Turns out they weren't. But that's why I love reading her novels - she always surprises me!
Torie and Joe had great chemistry as well. I thought their budding romance was well crafted, and didn't at all take away from the suspense (which I imagine is difficult to do). But what really captured my heart was Joe and his daughter. I loved their relationship, the way they talked about the Lord, their bond, just everything.
Once again Coble kept me on the edge of my seat, and jumping for joy at the satisfying ending. Romantic suspense fans are going to love this story! (I purchased my own copy of this story)...more

She just might be my favorite character yet. I mean I think that every time I read a new book by Turano, but still. Eunice is fabulous, quirky, hilarious, and just plain wonderful. She puts herself in these wild and crazy situations, and you can't help but chuckle. Which is what I do with all of Turano's books. I mean I was laughing before I even got to the end of chapter one!
The mystery was fun in this novel as well, from both Arthur and Eunice's perspective. I have to say, Arthur was the absolute right man for the job. Well, for Eunice really is what I mean. She's a spunky character to say the least, and she needed someone smart. Someone who would see through what she was saying/doing, and wouldn't be afraid to stand up to her. The banter between these characters was delightful.
I've said it before and I'll say it again. You won't be disappointed in a book from Turano. There is wit, humor, romance, fun, faith, and even some deep moments all packed into one fantastic read. I highly recommend reading this book. Scratch that. Read the whole series. Read it more than once in fact. You'll enjoy them I promise.

One – the charactersErica Vetsch has a way with story telling that I just cannot get enough of. I am easily drawn to this storyline for many reasons. One – the characters are charming, relatable (even though we live in different time periods, there are certain aspects of Juliette’s world that I seem to connect with), and fun to be around. Two – the mystery is so fun in this novel. I think I’ve figured it out and Vetsch provides a fun twist to spin my head around to another direction. It’s enough to keep my guessing and on my toes, which I love! Three – the faith element. Here’s the thing. We grow up thinking that our parents know what they’re talking about, and sometimes those thoughts feel like they are our own, but really not. Juliette has some lessons to learn throughout this novel and her faith is something she needs to assess – is it based on her parents, or her personal opinions/connections. I don’t want to give anything away, but this was interesting to read.
I am so excited that Vestch is giving us a new series, and I’m already wishing the next release date was here. I go hope we get more from Daniel and Juliette in that book. I highly recommend readers check out this wonderful historic read. Vetsch will take you back in time, have you dancing, laughing, and crime solving. Can you ask for anything better!?

I enjoyed Natalie Walter's first series so much that I could not wait to dive into another. And while I couldn't read it quite as soon as I hoped, it I enjoyed Natalie Walter's first series so much that I could not wait to dive into another. And while I couldn't read it quite as soon as I hoped, it was well worth the wait. Somehow Walters' manages to put so much in this novel - romance, suspense, action, banter, laughter, Egypt(!), and so much more. I was hooked, right from the beginning. The way she included multiple POV's was genius. Typically I don't like a lot of them because it can be confusing, but this was perfect. Honestly, I liked seeing the POV of a not-so-good character (don't want to give away spoilers). It kind of puts you into that person's mind, shows you a bit of the why and where they are coming from. It just added to the depth of the story for me.
Another thing that added depth was the relationships with the SNAP Team members. The banter, the wit, the fun, and yes even during the high action sequences - it was like they were a family, not just some people who work together. I love it. I'm here for it. And I want more of it. Every single character played a pivotal role to the success of the team - both in the story and during the investigation. I think when an author is able to write the secondary characters in so well that they just feel like they are all main characters - it's like a little slice of heaven. And Walters does just that. I was invested in everyone, not just Brynn and Jack. Bravo Ms. Walters. Bravo.
This book literally has a little something for everyone. I plan to reread it before the next installment comes out, because why not? I love being with these characters, and while I now know the ending, it'll be fun to reread and pick out the little clues that Walters left along the way. I highly recommend Lights Out! Honestly dolls do creep me out, and when I starting reading this book and a doll came on the scene, I may have had to put the book down for a moment. A very brief moment. Because no matter my silly dislike of creepy dolls, Jaime Jo Wright pens such a wonderful novel that you cannot help but overlook every fear you have just so you can continue reading her story.
It amazes me how easily Wright can hold my attention in both time periods she writes about. It also amazes me how connected Ava and Wren are, even though they are years apart. Yes, the creep factor is in this novel - I mean it's Jaime Jo Wright. You can expect that. She's the only author I trust to write a creepy novel that I'll enjoy. And enjoy them I do - I devour them. Here's the thing - while there is certainly the creep factors in her novels, there is also truth, a lesson, and fantastic characters. What's even better is that the settings almost become a character themselves. I don't know how she does it, but I love it! Lost Lake truly is its own character in how it affects the characters, the plot, and how well the story moves along.
I've never been disappointed by a book penned by the fantastic Jaime Jo Wright. If I'm being honest and selfish, she can't write them fast enough. But all the time in the world is worth the wait because her novels are extraordinary. They are on my favorites list time and time again. The Souls of Lost Lake is no different. I encourage you to read it - probably in the daytime. Maybe even with another person in the room. Just make sure you read it!
