Er zijn talloze reviews waar ik weinig aan toe te voegen heb. Het boek is simpelweg goed opgebouwd en gedegen uitgewerkt. Sommigen vonden de laatste hoofdstukken (een soort case study) te schools; ik vond die juist interessant want dat ging vooral over wanneer het grondig misgaat tussen mens en techniek, zoals bij NASA met twee shuttle-ongelukken, en talloze vliegtuigongelukken. Menselijke aspecten zoals overdreven focus op het bekende, te veel volgens procedure werken en niet nadenken, en te veel richten op data die er soms simpelweg niet is. Erg fijn en nuttig boek over leren. Zowel voor scholieren en studenten (daar heb ik er een paar van in m'n huishouden) als volwassenen die 'life long Erg fijn en nuttig boek over leren. Zowel voor scholieren en studenten (daar heb ik er een paar van in m'n huishouden) als volwassenen die 'life long learners' willen zijn (zoals ik). Het haalt een hoop mythes onderuit, en standaard leermethodes die nuttig voelen (zoals stampen, dat gaat steeds beter dus denk je dat je het weet) of teksten herlezen (de tekst komt je bij herlezen bekend voor dus denk je dat je de inhoud ook kent). Het biedt ook oplossingen voor hoe je dit dan wel effectief moet doen. Jezelf vragen stellen, pauzeren, onderwerpen afwisselen. Ergens zijn dit dingen die je eigenlijk wel weet, maar die moeite kosten.. herlezen voelt namelijk ook nuttig en kost minder moeite dan dingen opschrijven. Maar ja.. "als leren makkelijk is, dan is het vaak oppervlakkig en snel vergeten". Je moet die moeite doen om te zorgen dat het blijf hangen. De structuur van het boek is dat in de eerste 7 hoofdstukken achtergronden worden gegeven over wat de wetenschap heeft geleerd over leren. Wat werkt, en wat niet. Hoe fop je jezelf. En ik hoofdstuk 8 wordt alles vertaald in praktische tips, netjes onderverdeeld. Ook hier is dan de neiging om alleen dat hoofdstuk 8 te lezen, maar ik raad je aan toch het hele boek door te lezen. Dan blijft wat er besproken wordt in hoofdstuk 8 echt beter hangen, en vooral weet je dat dit écht beter werkt, door de voorbeelden en uitleg die in eerdere hoofdstukken is gegeven. ...more

Ik heb al meer boeken gelezen waarin dit ter sprake kwam dus niet alles was nieuw voor mij. Toch zijn de voorbeelden die Ericsson gebruikt zeer de moeite waard, en het is goed om het onderwerp in alle rust helemaal door te nemen. En Ericsson prikt ook mooi de '10,000 uur regel' van Gladwell door. Het gaat niet alleen om de hoeveelheid tijd, en gaat om hoe je leert, wat je doet, met welk doel. Ericsson geeft ook aan hoe deze methode van leren het onderwijs kan veranderen. Erg interessant. Als nog niet vaker iets over 'deliberate practice' hebt geleerd is dit eigenlijk een must-read, toepasbaar op zo veel manieren. En anders een zeer aanbevolen uitbreiding van je kennis over dit gebied. ...more
