Hij ziet het klimaatprobleem ook echt op wereldschaal; hij komt vaak in arme landen en ziet dat juist die landen de hardste klappen krijgen, terwijl ze het minst kunnen doen aan het probleem. Dat inzicht was voor hem aanleiding zich te verdiepen in deze materie. Hij beperkt zich niet, wat je als technoloog misschien wel van hem verwacht, tot alleen het overzicht van de technische initiatieven en mogelijkheden. Hij beziet het ook vanuit het perspectief van de overheid, die meer risico moet durven nemen, en initiatieven sterk kan ondersteunen. En ook hij ziet daarin de ironie, omdat hij als Microsoft-baas de overheid toch het liefst op een afstandje hield. Wat voor mij ook veel waarde gaf aan dit boek is het idee van de 'groene premie'; hoeveel betaal je extra om iets CO2 neutraal te gaan doen, en wat hebben we allemaal als gereedschap om deze kleiner te maken. Hij hekelt de '2030 reductie doelen', omdat die de '2050 nul doelen' in de weg kunnen lopen. Vervang nu een kolencentrale door een gascentrale en je haalt je 2030 doelen, maar ja, in 2050 staat die gascentrale er nog wel. Zeer lezenswaardig boek, helder ingedeeld, voorzien van voldoende feiten (en uiteraard worden er ook feiten onbeschreven gelaten, zoals het afvalprobleem van kernenergie), en slimme inzichten.
