This book gripped me from the first page! Alex is the main character. She wakes up blinded by bright lights and discovers that she is in her own hospital and her body is covered in drapes. Her arms tied down with velcro. She freezes when she discovers that she is naked and her ankles are held up in stirrups.
Very mysterious circumstances. Someone in a surgical gown is handling surgical instruments. Alex asks him "What is wrong with me." He replies in his creepy voice, "nothing is wrong with you."
I loved this thriller and the pacing is very good and some of the scenarios are pretty terrifying (waking up naked with your feet in stirrups and some creepy guy walking around)!!...more
I really enjoyed this author's previous novel, The Woman in Cabin 10 and was really looking forward to this one.
This book did not work for me and I ev I really enjoyed this author's previous novel, The Woman in Cabin 10 and was really looking forward to this one.
This book did not work for me and I even had a hard time finishing it. I know many have loved this one and I wish I could have liked it more. I couldn't feel any suspense building and the story just dragged on chapter after chapter. I didn't feel the connections between the four women characters and I found the plot to be predictable and without any thrills.
I do think many people will enjoy this book with the girlfriends and their secret past that comes back to haunt them, but I figured the mystery out early. Give it a try and see what you think. I do like this author and of course I am looking forward to her next novel....more

It follows Phoebe and Jake who meet as teenagers and end up getting married. The story continues until after their children are grown and he lands himself in prison.
Phoebe also has a love interest with one of her college professors. Rob, "You are the satin of youth and I must possess you." This isn't going to turn out well!
After marrying Jake, Phoebe wonders constantly about whether her mother would ever be proud of her. Her mother, Lola, concerning Jake "All he talked about was who owned what house, what boat, etc." Do you think Jake could be a bit greedy??
Phoebe becomes suspicious about Jake's exclusive "finance club" and tries to figure out his bullshit (her words).
And then it all falls apart..... a story about what we really "value" in life. Greed is a vicious thing!...more

I keep reading these "screwed up " marriage books!?? Of course, the title gave this one away. I did enjoy it and it was an easy fast read. The first half was the best and kept me turning the pages! It slowed down and became more "predictable" for the second half. I really liked the wife, Iris and I was pretty sure before I started that I wasn't going to like her husband Will.
Very enjoyable and entertaining. I liked the end and I wasn't expecting it....more

The first book of 13 in the Armand Gamache series. This book was published in 2005 and there are many things I enjoyed about this character driven novel.
Each story in the series takes place in Three Pines, a small Canadian village (which is fictional). There is quite a cast of characters in this one and Inspector Gamache is quite humorous, compassionate, and wise! I look forward to getting to know him better.
If you enjoy detective/police procedural series that have a "cozy" feel and are well-written, you may want to give this one a try. I thought it was a bit too long and that it had too many side stories, but still really enjoyed it! I have heard that each book gets better as the series progresses, so unto book two!...more

I almost DNF it in the first few chapters because all the back and forth dialogue was driving me crazy! BUT thank goodness I gave it a chance because suddenly.....WHAT just happened? Oh no, I can't put this book down now. I need to see what just happened. OK, let me just stay up and read some more because I am so intrigued! I didn't see the twist coming and enjoyed the rest of the book very much! If you read it....don't get frustrated....just keep going because the insanity is coming.......... ...more

This is a super suspenseful psychological thriller set in London. Two women are pregnant. Two women who have lives that couldn't be more opposite. Pregnant Meghan has perfect hair, perfect teeth, and the perfect marriage! Pregnant Agatha ,on the other hand, has no husband , no children and stocks shelves in a grocery store while dreaming of a life like that of Meghan. Agatha has no wealth or beauty.
Lies,lies,lies....they have such a way of weaving an intricate web of deceit! The truth is so much easier to remember, but too late for that.
One day Meghan's husband Jack ,who is out of town, calls and asks her to retrieve a business card from one of his pockets. While searching through pockets, she comes across a folded sheet of paper. It has a mobile phone number and someone has pressed a lipstick kiss next to it.
Agatha wants so very much to be like Meghan. She tells herself "This is a one time operation. I cannot turn back now." Agatha has set her plan into motion.
Michael Robotham has written one of the most unforgettable novels I've ever read! My thoughts are about what drives us? Is it ambition? motivation? jealousy? fate? our past? Yes, our past matters. Now on my favorites for 2017 list! Thank you to the author, scribner, and netgalley for the arc! PUBLICATION DATE 7/11/2017...more
You have to read until the very last page to learn the final "twist". I really enjoyed this mystery/psychological thriller NOW I understand the Title!
You have to read until the very last page to learn the final "twist". I really enjoyed this mystery/psychological thriller and wanted to find out what was going on in Adele and David's marriage. I "had" to find out! I was turning pages quickly and very interested in what Adele was "up to" . Was she hiding something?
I was so curious about Adele and wondering if something was really wrong with her! She is quite the actress .I was totally invested in the story until the end. It is full of "secrets" and I just wanted answers. I had to keep reading to try to figure out who the manipulator was and this is a must for a good book for me.
This is one you won't want to "skim" or you might miss something! You won't be disappointed. I kept thinking "what if this could happen" while trying to fall asleep the first night that I finished the book. Terrifying!! The thought stayed with me for many weeks! I loved this thriller, Shocking end!! It is in my top reads of 2017.

I'm not sure why this book was so long because I would have enjoyed it much more and the story could have been much more exciting in fewer pages. I don't mind a longer book as long as it engages and this one did not.
I liked that the main character, Alex, was female and a bit of a James Bond type with hidden blades in her heels and syringes full of something to make her enemies talk. She does get into a romantic relationship and they go "on the run" together. I couldn't really imagine her falling for him though as he seemed too nerdy for her.
There was some action that kept the story going, but overall it was "a bit too boring for me"....more

A federal agent, Aaron Falk, goes back to his childhood town to investigate the death of a once close friend and his family. He hasn't returned in twenty years and when he gets into town the past starts to haunt him.
I know I am in the minority on this one, but I didn't enjoy it as much as others. I am not sure if it was the characters or the lack of suspense. I liked the Aaron Falk character, but no one else was very memorable to me.
I enjoyed the mystery and could almost feel the heat of Australia. The story seemed to drag out at the end (for me) and I was almost at the point of getting bored with the whole thing. It did pick up some speed eventually. but I found the ending somewhat disappointing (for me). I know others will really enjoy the series and the way the mystery unfolds. ...more

I wanted to read this before I read the second novel Artemis that is being published in November. I am really glad I did because now I am more excited for Artemis! There is a lot of science, technology and chemistry references in the book, but I still read it in 2 days so it definitely held my attention.
Mark Watney gets left behind at Mars when his fellow astronauts believe he is dead. Now he is alone and stranded on Mars! Imagine all the stress that creates! Of course he is a smart astronaut, so he is able to calculate, plan, and adapt to a new way of life on Mars. He is even able to keep a sense of humor! They eventually discover him in a satellite and realize he is indeed alive and plan a mission to rescue him.
If you don't mind all the chemistry references and can focus on the "story" that is taking place, it is an enjoyable book. I found myself rooting for Watney and I wanted to see if the rescue mission would be successful. Then I had to watch the movie with Matt Damon which was fun to see how the book played out!...more
