I always appreciate Heather’s books and how the Gospel truth is seamlessly in every conversation and thought and word. It’s a refreshing clean read peppered throughout with Scripture. Her characters always have the Gospel in the forefront of their mind before any decision.
The amount of history researched and given to us is just amazing. I really didn’t know much of how life was before stoves were a thing. Love learning little tidbits.
I’m not a really romance reader but for anyone wanting a clean Christian romance this is for you! I would say this is a character driven story with evolving and lovable characters. If you’re more of a plot driven reader just know going in. You will love the characters (or strongly dislike certain ones). I’m looking forward to see how this new series develops and gives us the backstory of the Youngs.

These books are growing. The characters are growing and changing. Still witty and humorous but a hint of more seriousness and life’s pain and sadness.

It was the story of God's grace extended even to the forgetful, to the pious, to the overstivers and the understrivers. It wasn't designed for those who never strayed, for everyone strayed; it was for the returners."
I slowly read this book and savored each character and story. I did not want it to end! I love how the Gospel is intricately woven in each character, each conversation, each minute detail. I'm a returner- every day, over and over.
This third book continues the story of the Young Family, focusing primarily on Jack during the big Chicago Fire. I love how each book I read of Heather's I am going back and researching events. I love how she makes me feel and see what the characters are doing and doesn't just tell me. They challenge me on a spiritual level as well.
This book in particular deals with a heavier subject matter, a personal struggle Jack has. Heather treats it gracefully and tastefully, all the time infusing the Gospel. I've said before I am not a fan of Christian Historical Fiction very much because to me they come across as cheesy and sappy romances. But the romance and the marriages in this book are real and authentic.
"The night had been dark, but there had been no bitter anger, no despondency that might have been expected in such a season. The light coming from insde each of them, sometimes flickering, sometimes dim, had always been there."

It's Shakespeare. What can I say?
I shan't even rate it. ;)
I have such a hard time with Shakespeare, I read it, listened to it, and followed some tutorial videos, and got encouragement in an IG group I'm in.... And I still tremble and quake.
Not that bad... maybe.

A cute fairytale story with obvious lessons and a happily every after. Not necessarily for smaller kids though- maybe older Middle Grade. A lot of death and dying.

I'm a sucker for Historical Fiction and especially a good Christian Historical Fiction. This was a really enjoyable and a relaxing read for me this month. It's about orphaned siblings finding and reuniting and learning about themselves during the Civil War. The historical occurrences aren't the major focal point of the book and I think I liked that.
I really connected with the characters. The author did a superb job of creating deep and emotional characters. I really liked seeing the personalities and I was guessing their personality types. I actually thought one of the main characters could be my hubby- it was him down to a T (except Civil War era).
Definitely recommend for lovers a great historical clean read. You will fall in love with the characters and their story (that is still being weaved by God)....more

This book was practical in that it gave simples steps of things that have worked for the author.
It was scientific giving statistics and scientific studies to back up how and why human beings do what they to. For a non fiction book, it was an easy read and kept my interest throughout.
The books major points were about how to make good habits and how to make them stick: make it obvious, make it attractive, make it easy, and make it satifying. It would pair very nicely with and even quotes Charles Duhigg's book The Power of Habit: Why We Do What We Do in Life and Business!...more
Even though I may not agree with the author in certain ways she disciplined or did not discipline, I apprI love and desperately need parenting books.
Even though I may not agree with the author in certain ways she disciplined or did not discipline, I appreciated all the good applications and Bible verses she used to back up her points.
So many parenting books are ideas, suggestions, or philosonphies. This parenting book was application. Application and examples of how we can carry out grace. I feel like I need a paper version and not just a kindle version with highlighted notes.
These were the application parts I learned most about: How to establish clear rules Examples of family mission statements Examples of evaluauting violations Examples of determining motivations Examples of giving appropriate consequences Examples of kid's flags (personalities)
This book gives clear and concise look at how grace is supposed to be played out in our homes. How rules and regulations have their place but tempered with love and relationship. It's main focus is discipline and how grace is played out in this arena. It shows a clear view of the difference of a house ruled by legalism vs a house ruled by grace.

I will be getting a physical copy for sure. One of those I need and want to highlight and mark up. Christa gracefully and lovingly explains through her life's struggles and trials how everything must and needs to have us running to Jesus. What I appreciate the most is how she gives us steps and practical ways of how this can be done in our daily life. So many times a "self help" book leaves me with ok, but how? No trial how small or or big is is insignificant to God. I have found myself throughout my busy and tiring day running to Jesus for every stress and kid induced frustrattion. It's a daily lesson I need over and over. And He does give grace and rest!...more
