i feel like the author was trying to put too many black culture things in the book to make it and bri seem more relatable but it got really annoying ai feel like the author was trying to put too many black culture things in the book to make it and bri seem more relatable but it got really annoying at certain points because sometimes characters would say black phrases that didn’t fit into the conversation and it felt like the author was forcing it. i don’t mind having black culture things in books, i love it honestly but authors need to learn when they’re doing it too much. i also felt like the book never really got to the point like the book is 400 pages and from the last 65% is when the plot kicks in but other than that i really liked the book. it focuses a lot on greek mythology which was a surprise to me because i love greek mythology. i loved Bri as a character and especially her relationships with her moms and her moms healthy relationships with each other. i can tell the author put a lot of research into this book because everything was written extremely well from the plants to the greek mythology. i cant wait to read the sequel!...more

everyone in this book was so fucked up but i loved it, it was kinda like dark academia but with teachers and i thought that was fun. the pacing was a bit off sometimes and i think the only thing that stopped me from giving this book 5 stars was that i thought it was gonna be plot twisty but that’s my own fault considering you learn everything as the book goes on so there was nothing to really get plot twist from. i love that everything tied together in the end. such a fun read....more

i think that this book is very dependent on the reader, this book works for me because i enjoyed the romance and i viewed the ending as a happy endingi think that this book is very dependent on the reader, this book works for me because i enjoyed the romance and i viewed the ending as a happy ending, i also think that they very clearly escaped something (who knows) in the end but without the romance i would not have the same feelings. Reading other reviews i saw some people didn’t care for the romance but enjoyed the atmosphere of the book.
I really enjoyed it and i highly recommend it for a summer read. it’s really quick and it keeps you guessing. I enjoyed the fact that the deeper they went into the house the more that they feel in love. it’s very clear they were delusional but it worked for them. whenever they thought about the house they thought about each other as well. the book is weird, yes but it honestly really worked for me. ...more
