I really liked this sequel, especially I enjoyed its magical aspects, which are undoubtedly the strong point of the book. Being honest, I feel that this book has taken a new direction, and this makes it completely different to the first book, even so, it was a lot of fun [image] 4/5 Stars You can find this one and more of my reviews on my blog A Book. A Thought. In Magic Study we can learn more about Yelena's past, and we'll see how she has to face completely new and unexpected situations. Many aspects of her past that she didn't know about will be revealed, while she tries to adapt to the meeting with her biological family and her customs and all of this will reveal who she really is. On the other hand we'll also see Yelena begin to understand how her magic works and we'll see her grow in this aspect a lot during this book. I personally think that magic is the protagonist in this occasion, that, and the incoportacion of new characters, which are ALOT and each of them will affect Yelena in some way and to her future actions as well I want to start highlighting how much the writing style has improve from one book to another, I love that since I want to read all the books, so knowing that in each one this aspect will improve makes really me excited. It was much easier to get into the plot this time, which is obvious since I'm more familiar with the story, but I attribute it to the writing style as well, that has been very fluid and addictive since the first page. [image] This book in general has been very different from the first one, this is because we see Yelena established elsewhere, in a place where magic has a great weight and is very important for citizens. I remember that in Ixia magicians were not allowed then this has been a big change. I also think that the incorporation of so many new characters makes everything look new, you know? It's as if I just started reading a new series or something like that. Being surrounded by other landscapes and other culture also made me feel far from the main story. Being honest, I think this may not work for many of you, the fact that there is a lack of connection of one book with the other can annoy you or even make you stop caring about the plot. .Personally wasn't a problem for me at all, I enjoyed this book a lot, I loved meeting new characters and it seems very interesting to see where the plot is going now that many things have been clarified, especially the most important that focuses on the Yelena's magical powers and what they mean in this world. That seemed great to me, I love magic when it's well managed and certainly liked it in this book. As for the characters, as I've said before, there are many new ones. I really liked the incorporation of the Master Magicians and I like that each one has a different personality, that's fun. I love reading the Yelena and Irys interactions , I feel that their relationship has grown a lot and as you know, because I've said it in previous reviews, I love master-student relationships, I find them adorable and super interesting to follow. I like Dax he's great, he's not a main character at all, but he seems like a super sweet guy and I really like that. I'd like to know more about Leif, I think he's a very complex character, but there's a lot in his mind and I haven't quite understood him yet, I find him a bit selfish the most part of the book and even though his actions are explained at the end, I feel that I need more of him to trust in this character. I'm excited to see what position Cahil will take, I think he's a very ambitious character, so I'm also interested in him. And finally I think Ferbe as a character is pretty creepy, it worked in some way like the villain, he's very evil and the things he has done are horrible, so obviously the darkness inside him isn't discussed, but still I would like to see more interaction between him and Yelena, because his scene together was too convenient and short. Ari and Janco are always two lights in the dark, I love them and I loved what they meant for Yelena in this book. (I've said Yelena a lot, I'm sorry, lol) As you already know, I like Yelena very much as the main character, she has made a lot of progress in this book and I'm proud of her decisions, she has also acquired an admirable strength and courage, so I love to follow her story. I absolutely and indisputably love Kiki, OMG this horse is the most beautiful thing in life, YES, it's a horse and that doesn't prevent it from being one of the best character I've ever read lol [image] There was something big that was missing and that is Valek, on the one hand, I like his absence and I understand it because he has let Yelena stand out and has given rise to new characters, but on the other hand, I think I've missed him too much, I liked his participation but I feel that I would have liked to see more of him. Also I think that his appearance in "dreams" was like WTF, I'm not sure if I liked that, I think I didn't get it actually I think the book should have finished a few chapters earlier than what it actually did, this is because I think that the end was stretched too much and all the time I was waiting for something to happen, but then there is a small "fight" that only serves to get rid of a character, which doesn't make sense to me, it could have been interesting to leave everything for the next book and thus have been able to give a more important place to the whole fight scene that lasts about 2 seconds here I want to clarify that I liked what happens after this scene, there is a creation of a new conflict that I think will unleash very good things for the next book, I'm excited by the position that Yelena has taken in the plot, it will be super great to see what will bring her the future after everything that happened Finally, I'm super excited to read the next book which will be the end for this trilogy, then I understand that there is another trilogy, I guess it follows other characters in the same world, which is great. I think there will be many surprises for the end, I want to see all the new characters along with the old ones and I want to see magic and all the political drama that characterizes these books, I would really like that ...more |

it was amazing
| “You cannot harden your heart to the future just because of your past. You cannot use cruelty against yourself to justify cruelty to others.” “You cannot harden your heart to the future just because of your past. You cannot use cruelty against yourself to justify cruelty to others.” I don't know how to start this review, with this latest book this trilogy will become one of my favorites of all time. I have many mixed feelings right now, I was literally crying while reading the end, it's difficult to describe this story, it has simply captivated me, it has made me fall in love and it has left me in awe. I really would like more books! I feel that to summarize my feelings right now I would say that they're bittersweet ... I'll miss this world and my babies so much [image] 5/5 Stars You can find this one and more of my reviews on my blog A Book. A Thought. I don't want to detail too much about what this book is about because there would be many spoiler to the previous ones, so I'll talk a little bit about what I've felt and about some important points without revealing too much The writing style of these books are absolutely captivating and engaging, you just can't stop reading, it's one of those trilogies that I'd love to re-read like right now lol. Marie Lu has a master mind, she has managed to create a world that is exquisite in many aspects: variety of races, landscapes, even cultures and thoughts. I can't wait to read more by the author, I'm in love with what she has built, she has taken a lot of darkness and has turned it into light, I'm fascinated by all this magic concept that this book shows. We also have a more present incorporation of mythology, which is something that is always in all this booksl but in this one the mythological aspects are even stronger, becoming protagonists [image] This is one of the darkest trilogies I've read, the idea of creating a centralized story in a "villain" as the main character is unique. And it's a topic which I would like to read again at some time. It's the first time I read about a character as captivating and powerful as Adelina. I've always supported her since the first book, her life has been so difficult that isn't really difficult to feel empathy towards her. In this specific book we'll see her worst side, her ambition and hunger for power have made her uncontrollable and evil, and at first it was scary for me to read about her doing really cruel things, but even so I can't stop loving her. Her growth during the trilogy is impressive, now she's a confident and fierce woman who looks for what she wants and is no longer afraid of anything. I'm in some way proud of her for all that she has had to go through and, despite everything, she has known how to resist and move forward. In this book I think I still can't organize my emotions, but after finishing reading I think I feel even more proud of this character, I would like things to have ended differently for her, but even so I think it's a great job by the author, I think she has created a masterpiece with this character, who began as a scared girl and ended up being a strong and imposing woman, layers of love and hate with the same intensity. I can't find the words to describe Adelina, she is incredible. #ProudMom #WhiteWolf4ever “After a lifetime of darkness, I want to leave something behind that is made of light.” [image] I feel that in this book we can see all the other characters much more honest about what they feel and what they think and I love that. Magiano is the best thing ever, I love him. He always brings light and hope when there are dark situations, he's incredible. I remember when in the first book I was like "I ship Enzo & Adelina" and now I think NO jajajjajaja, this book has really changed my mind completely, I still think that Enzo deserved another type of posture in this book, but even so, everything that happened with him was so unexpected, it was also unique, as is the whole concept of these books. I think that when you think you know what will happens, you don't and all the plot twist take you by surprise, you'll not see the end come at all, I'm sure of that. I'm still loving Rafaelle ALWAYS, he transmits a lot of peace to myself for some reason, he's a very wise and calm character, I love his scenes and his interactions with others, especially his moments with Adelina, I love them, see this relationship between them from the start until now is so crazy, changes and goes through many stages, but at the end you can feel that love and that connection that will always be between them and I think that is adorable and sometimes this kind of friendship or teacher/apprentice relationship, that makes you feel all these good things is much better than a romantic relationship, I think that in this case it contributes a lot to the plot and I personally adore them both. Violetta was always a changing and insecure character for me, but in this book I feel that I finally could connect more with her and with her personality, I like her position at the end and my favorite thing is to see her relationship with Adelina, after the end of the previous book I was super interested in knowing how this relationship would progress or not and I'm very satisfied about it. I think that the sisters connection is something that can be built in a very beautiful way and Marie Lu has achieved it, it has been a long time since I didn't cry so much with a book. This relationship is the protagonist of one of the purest scenes that this trilogy has. “You are a light,” she replies gently. “And when you shine, you shine bright.” The ending was so unexpected for me, it's still going around in my head and I can't believe it. I'm 100% in shock. It has left me a bittersweet feeling, on the one hand I loved it, I think it was poetic and it was magical and beautiful, but on the other hand I had imagined a completely different thing. I'm sure that I had thought of 3 alternative endings and none of those is what finally happened. Being honest I can't guarantee that you would like the end, I think it has left everyone surprised and with that feeling of really not knowing how to feel about. But once I could stop my cry I thought, "This is so magical OMG" and it is, it's certainly unique and has something so bright, honest and real, I think it was smart. [image] So I recommend this trilogy a lot, especially if you like anti-hero characters and dark fantasies with a great group of characters with unique and different personalities and powers. The world is dark and magical at the same time it will not stop surprising you, it's a great adventure that I can't wait to read again. The fact that it's called The Midnight Star makes so much sense in the end, that I thought it was super poetic Please read it if you haven't done it yet, just improve with each book and I can't be happier to say that I'll add this trilogy to my favorites list !. PS: The prologue has made me cry so much! consider yourself warned ...more |

I'm very happy to have read this book in winter, because the atmosphere in it, is perfect for this time of year. I really enjoyed the mythological aspect of the book, Russian folklore has seemed fascinating to me, on the other hand it's quite heavy and slow to read, and I have to admit that some parts were a bit boring. This book will be a challenge to review [image] 3/5 Stars You can find this one and more of my reviews on my blog A Book. a Thought. The book follows the story of Vasilisa, she lives with all her family in the Russian wilderness where winter lasts almost all year, but this hasn't seemed to matter to her and she spends the long winter days listening to her nurse's fairy tales together with her brothers. When Vasilisa's mother dies her father travels to Moscow and brings with him a new wife. This religious woman forbids the family to honor the spirits of the place, but although everyone decides to make what she sais, Vasilisa doesn't agree. But after that, the misfortune begins to fall upon the village and meanwhile, Vasilisa's stepmother becomes increasingly hard against her giving her the option to get married or go to a convent. Vasilisa must defy even the people she loves and call on dangerous gifts she has long concealed--this, in order to protect her family from a threat that seems to have stepped from her nurse's most frightening tales I really get caught by the promise and also the fact that it was focused on Russian myths did nothing but capture my attention even more, that and the fact that everyone seems to love this book. Honestly I thought that I would love it too, but it wasn't like that, and even when I enjoyed many aspects, I couldn't say that it's the book I was waiting for when I go into it. The fact of having my expectations so high I think that has played against me. Since I finish the book I'm thinking how difficult it would be to review it and talk about it without offending anyone, but you know that my intention is never to be evil, I'm only transmitting my personal opinion to you and how I felt when I was reading it. [image] The plot sounds like a fairy tale and I found that adorable at first, I adore how atmospheric this book is, you can really feel like you are in those frozen forests and those white landscapes, it's really beautiful to read about these places. Also I enjoyed the mythological aspects, as I said before, I think I had never read about Russian myths, so having a bit of that was great!, I feel I'm a little bit wiser about it now. .I found them super dark and magical and I think that, in the future, I would love to read something like this again On the other hand, I had some problems with the way in which the book is written, I think that at first it's quite confusing, there are many names and many characters which you must familiarize yourself with, and even though that's very common in fantasy, this time I felt it was done in a disorderly way. I don't know how to explain it but I felt that honestly it's a very difficult book to follow, it changes characters quite often and that was so confusing for me, I don't know why, but I think I could really understand how it worked when I was already in the half of it. The writing style itself can be overwhelming and in the end I think it just wasn't my cup of tea. The promise of the book focuses on Vasilisa, but even so during the book we follow the story of multiple characters especially of her family members. I loved Vaisilisa's character she's strong and stubborn, I loved that. I wasn't expecting to follow this character as a child I thought the story would start with her being a teenager, but I liked knowing more about her upbringing and everything that she has to happen to become a young woman, even so, enjoyed much more this character after the half of the book, almost at the end. I think she has a great growth and I liked that. [image] As for the other characters sadly I'm not interested in any of them. I appreciate the variety of stories, I think that could work for a lot of you I really enjoyed the last part of the book I feel it's there when the story comes to its strongest point, many things happen, things I was expecting to happen, so I loved that. I think if the whole book would have been like that last part, would be a 5 stars for me. .Regarding the first part, I think it was difficult for me to commit myself to the story in general and there were times when I was so bored, it's very dense at times and I can't really ignore that In general I think it's a good book, it shows a lot of what Russian mythology is, we also follow an amazing character, I really think that Vasilisa is the best thing of this book, I love the girl. I love atmospheric books, and this is one of them. Yet sadly I couldn't let go the fact that it's very slow and heavy to read, also somewhat confusing at times. I recommend it anyway, especially if you're looking for an atmospheric book and full of interesting myths, also if you like stories like fairy tales, this is a great option. Don't be fooled by its size this is a long ride you guys. ...more |

| “Seize the wind," I whispered. "Don't become the kite that never flies.” I adored this book I think that the Chinese culture and mythology “Seize the wind," I whispered. "Don't become the kite that never flies.” I adored this book I think that the Chinese culture and mythology that's portrayed in it is absolutely amazing and beautiful, I also really enjoyed how the author decides to give prominence to the places and clothing aesthetics that are described in the most perfect way, and they blend very well with the fantasy plot. I really enjoyed it and I think it was exactly the kind of reading I need, something light and easy to read, but also with an interesting, dynamic, and entertaining background to follow. [image] 4/5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐ You can find more of my reviews & fun content on my blog A Book. A Thought. In this book, we follow Maia, a girl who dreams of becoming the best tailor in the land, but being a woman the only thing she can hope for is to marry a good man. When a royal messenger arrives at her sick father's workshop, she makes a risky and dangerous decision going to court dressed as a man to participate in a competition to become the imperial tailor and thus not only fulfill her dream but also save her family from ruin. Although Maia doesn't doubt her abilities, every day she's at risk that they'll discover that she's a woman and be executed for it. The challenges that Maia must go through to prove herself the best tailor are difficult enough but she also attracted the attention of the court magician, Edan, who seems to see through her disguise. Still, nothing prepares Maia for her final challenge: to sew three magic gowns for the emperor's reluctant bride-to-be, from the laughter of the sun, the tears of the moon, and the blood of stars. What I adored above all things in the book is the dynamic and the story of Maia's family, to deepen her relationship with her loved ones and all the sacrifices she must make to keep them alive and safe it's breathtaking, I just love when stories focus so much on family and the power of that kind of love and bonding, and in this book that's beautifully accomplished, I'm completely moved by the way Maia relates to her brothers and especially with her father and the look that she has on them of pure compassion and admiration. In addition to this beautiful factor, I think it's a very solid book and I really enjoyed reading it, even so, I think that the really interesting thing begins to happen perhaps after the first 100 pages. I can see why this described as Project Runway knows Mulan, and LOVE that idea, the first part of the book is very PR based, while the second and most part of the idea is highly Mulan based, a story that I personally LOVE. I'm not a big fan of crossings or traveling long trips together with the characters, sometimes that bores me a little, but this time I think that all the places that we know traveling together with the characters are wonderful, the descriptions are very vivid and are clearly very well thought out. Still, I prefer not to have SO long trips lol, but I still liked it! We also follow a fantastical plot with a huge mythological weight which I adore with my heart, knowing more about Chinese mythology has been a great pleasure and I'm dying to know more. I liked the writing style, especially for the descriptions, there are many solid dialogues, and the construction itself of the plot is incredible. The places we visit on the journey that the characters undertake are beautiful, and although each place has its challenge and is dangerous, is SO good. There are many evil beings in each of those places, from demons to ghosts and that manages to keep you expectant, on the edge of your seat. I also love how it's very easy and light to read, which was exactly what I was needing. I also want to highlight the description of the clothing, because OMG, SO beautiful, I want to have every dress Maia has made for me, I swear! I found really interesting the way in which magic is introduced into the story and all the nuances it has in this world. There are those who are totally against it and who treasure it as the greatest prize, I also adore how magic touches Maia's life in a very unique way coming from her ancestors and knowing how that's linked to her and also seeing her uses it was very nice, it's a great idea, very unique above all. I liked the characters especially Edan and Maia, who I think have very entertaining personalities to follow and much more when they're together, LOVE THEM. Maia is a very brave girl who undertakes this super dangerous journey to honor and save her family. I greatly admire how strong this character is and how she's always loyal to her ideals and pursues what her heart dictates. The growth is there, I could see it towards the end of the story and I can't wait to read more about Maia. Edan is the magician of the emperor, and he's at his complete service. This character is extremely interesting because we don't know much about him in the beginning and about his past, but he does bring fun, magic, and mystery moments to the plot that I manage to enjoy. After seeing how everything ends for him, I die to know what's next! Then as a remarkable character, I think I should mention Lady Sarnai, she's the emperor's fiancee and I think her story is quite hard-hitting since she's forced to marry to keep the peace between two empires, and we can see her suffering for this, never showing that side, though, but showing herself strong and very hard with others, actually she has a pretty cruel attitude, but I'm interested in learning more about this character. What do I think about romance? Well, I think it's too much instalove-y for my taste lol, even so, I managed to enjoy the relationship between them beyond the romance, I think they help each other grow and together they discover who they really are and what they want to do with their lives. I think they've empowered themselves and I love their dialogues. I cannot deny that I enjoyed some romantic scenes and although I think that everything is too hasty to occur in a period of months, still touched my heart a little and I'm very interested to know what will happen to them in the future. _There are SO many beautiful scenes of them together that took my breath away I liked the ending a lot because it's not the typical happy ending, but it's much more heartbreaking, and that was very well executed. I loved the book, I know it's only the beginning, so I have high hopes for the sequel and I think, last book. It will be fun and exciting to discover what will happen with this world appeased by the war that tries to re-emerge and stay on its feet, besides I also want to know more about demons and mythological beings, which I enjoyed very much & last but not least, I can't wait to follow more of Maia's story and how she will take her next challenges having now a huge weight on her shoulders. Loved the book and I highly recommend it if you want a light and easy to read fantasy, also if you enjoy trips where there are a lot of magic and diabolical beings lurking around the corner. I also recommend it if you like books with solid world constructions that will take your breath away, and interesting plots with kind of predictable but clean and well-executed twists. First Thoughts 06/14/20 I loved this book, I adore the combination of Chinese mythology and culture with lots of sewing and challenges. I also adored the journey that Maia undertakes and everything that surrounds that, as well as her relationship with Edan, which captivated me. But what I love most is Maia's relationship with her family and the sacrifice she makes for her love for her father and brother, warmed my heart & LOVED the ending, now I can't wait to read more! ...more |

OMG you GUYS !, I can't believe how incredible this book is. It was so intense and dramatic, I'm super emotional right now, I really loved it. It will be difficult to describe such an EPIC book, but I'll try to maintain my sanity meanwhile lol. but In short: I LOVED IT [image] 5/5 Stars You can find this one and more of my reviews on my blog A Book. A Thought. In this book we see the characters in a much more genuine way and we get to really see what is inside them, what their fears are and what their objectives are. For me it has been an exciting journey, with a lot of action, incredible additions of new characters to the plot and a lot of epic scenes. For those who believe that a second book of a trilogy can't be as good as the other two, well you're wrong, this one is so good. It's without doubt also one of the most original books that I've read, whenever you think you know what will come, then something totally unexpected happens and that is great. In this second book we can see the Adelina's true nature and that terrified me, because in a way I expected her to dominate her darkness and she could follow the good side or something like that, but no, she's still my favorite character, but her mind is so dark and her power begins to literally devours her, so I don't know what will happen to her, it's a very unstable character and I really fear for my little wolf. As I said in my review of the first book she is not the typical character and that, along with her personality and her great power, is what makes her unique and captivating, all the time you try to guess what will happen with this girl , all that intrigue is the best part. I can't tell you that you'll love Adelina as I do, because there is a great chance that you'll hate her, but I think that's the unique thing about this story [image] The incorporation of new character like Magiano, Sergio and Maeve were great, I think that each one contributed a lot to the plot in different ways, the way in which Marie Lu creates characters is brilliant, I'm still perplexed by it. Personally I love Magiano, he's absolutely great, I hope he still be in the next book because I need him in my life !. A very curious thing has happened to me. I told you about my ship in my previous review, well I can tell you that it was from Adelina and Enzo, but well, when I thought I would never change my mind, I think I did. Alot of things have changed from one book to another, and I feel that at this moment I'm Team Magiano and if he disappoint me in the next book I'll be very sad and I'll probably be the most confused person on the planet lol. I really want to trust in the relationship between Adelina and Enzo but I don't think he really understands her, I honestly feel that the best thing for her is not him roght now, so we'll see what happens, right now to start I don't know what will happen with Adelina, because OMG this girl is intense as hell. Maeve has just become the queen of her kingdom after her mother's death and plays a super important role during this book, she's responsible for many very incredible things that happen here, one of them is a great epic moment that I was waiting like alot!, and I feel that it's a character who will also have a very important role during the next book, her relationship with one of the Daggers was great, I totally saw that coming. This character reminds me a lot of Lagertha of Vikings I feel that the characters are so varied and diverse, both in personality and sexuality, each of them is so damn interesting. [image] Taren is more crazy than ever, what the hell happens to this guy lol, he has that so powerful and evil personality, but at the same time I feel that I could see another side of him where he shows us his deepest emotions and desires. Right now, as everything over for him, makes me feel sorry, I feel that many things have gone out of control in his life so right now I know he'll not be in a good place and although his destiny makes me nervous, a part of me also feel happy about it, (I'm the worst, I know). But on the other hand I also feel some empathy, just a little bit lol. Something happens near the end of the book with one of the members of the Daggers and I still can't believe it, I feel so bad about what happened, I didn't see it coming at all and everything happened so fast that I think while I'm writing this I'm just realizing that actually happened and OMG I can't believe it. One of the best things in the book is the union of this new society created by Adelina called The Rose Society, I love this group and I feel that even though I still love Rafaelle, YES, I still do it, I prefer the Roses over the Daggers The end was EPIC !, I can't say another word that describes it better, I'm still in shock. It was INCREDIBLE and unexpected, so long since I didn't feel this way about an ending. It was just magnificent and I feel happy but at the same time I feel fear and sadness and worry and too many feelings for the characters, I know that the future is uncertain, but I'm sure I'll cry with the next book, there's no way this ends as I hope lol. [image] I have alot of expectations for the last book, I have already been told that it's even better than this one and I can't see how, because this was incredible, so many unexpected plto twist!. I could tell you that I'm ready but probably not. I know that there will be a super impressive final battle and I'm so excited but so scared at the same time, I don't want my babies to get hurt, no more than they already are, you know? I think so far I can describe this trilogy like Game of Thrones knows X-Men, it's totally that! The Elites powers are sensational, I love that it is not the "typical" powers but they're very well thought out and as each has its own consequence, makes it even more real and cruel. Marie Lu, you're a genius! I already love this author, I feel she has done an extraordinary job and I can't stop talking about this book, if the final book is as epic as this, then guys, I think I have found a new favorite trilogy! ...more |

| This book is a lot of fun !, I'm surprised, I've found a great story with an amazing amount of diverse characters and alot of magic. [image] 4/5 Stars Yo This book is a lot of fun !, I'm surprised, I've found a great story with an amazing amount of diverse characters and alot of magic. [image] 4/5 Stars You can find this one and more of my reviews on my blog A Book. A Thought. In general, you never know what you'll find when you read a short book, much less if it's fantasy. Of course the lack of development of the world can be a problem, in this case I would have liked to know a little bit more, but even so, I don't think that this has affected at all my enjoyment when reading it. So leaving that aside, I think you shouldn't be fooled by the book size, I think it has enough content and is really good, we have friendship, betrayal, magic, revenge, love and my favorite thing PLOT TWIST! The writing style is fantastic and this along with the characters were executed in a successfully way At first I felt that I was bombarded with a lot of information about the paranormal and fantastic aspects of the plot, from the powers to the creatures, and this was certainly a bit confusing, but once you know more about the characters' stories, from their points of view, how their lives work and how they connect with each other, everything is taking more sense and is really an addictive reading. All the time I felt that I was inside a chapter of a TV series which I didn't want to end. I think this short book would be a great start for young readers who are just starting with the genre and don't want to read a very dense or full of descriptions fantasy book. This is short and it's simple but it works perfectly and that's what it's about The ending is quite open, which doesn't surprise me since this type of short books always tend to have a sequel, so I can't wait for the second part !. If it has everything that this first part had, it will be Incredible ...more |

Book #4 || The Book Junkie Trials Read-A-Thon || #MAGE “Once there was a girl who was drawn to wicked things. I LOVED IT SO MUCH!!.This book has made me feel so many things, it also has everything I usually love in a good fantasy, from complex heroines and female power to a royal family and dragons. Also, I LOVED the romance, can you believe it? OMG, I needed a romance like this in my life, real and credible. [image] Source 5/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ You can find more of my reviews on my blog A Book. A Thought. Legend has it that as there has always been a being of light and good, "The Namsara", created to bring love to the world, there has also always been its counterpart, "The Iskari", who born of the shadows comes to bring terror and spread panic. Asha's the daughter of the dragon king of Firgaard, has grown up learning in hushed whispers, drawn to the forbidden figures of the past. But it isn’t until she becomes the fiercest, most feared dragon slayer in the land that she takes on the role of the next Iskari. Asha has successfully killed every dragon that has hunted, and then take its head to her father, but what she really fears is in the palace, she has been committed to marriage with the Commander, a cruel man who just wants to dominate her, but when her father gives her a way out, she takes it. Now Asha must hunt down the most powerful and feared dragon in order to save herself from a future she doesn't want. With the help of a slave friend, she must shed the layers of her Iskari bondage and open her heart to love, light, and a truth that has been kept from her. Even when the blurb is pretty good, I think it doesn't do justice to the book. This book besides being a clear example of an incredible construction of a Fantasy, is also super significant and touches deep themes of each of the characters, it also leaves you thinking with its beautiful stories and myths. I think it's the full package for me, and I love this book to pieces. I feel so excited to have finally given it a chance, I think it deserves more love and recognition because despite having heard about it before, I don't think people talks as much as they should. Personally, I'll be talking about this book for years lol. I LOVED IT I think the author has created a very interesting plot full of shocking twists that will make you change your mind several times, in the beginning, I was believing and feeling things that changed completely as I progressed through the story. Personally, I've felt so betrayed by my emotions, I really trusted characters that disappointed me and that's great, I mean, it's sad, of course, but the fact that the author has created such characters with such deep and well-marked personalities, that managed to play with your feelings and with your head, and have achieved with a simple twist to make me feel so many things, is brilliant to me. I didn't see any of the revelations coming and I always enjoy being surprised. I also think it's a super entertaining concept, it has so many levels of scenes, we have scenes that will make you think and dream a little, and scenes of high-impact, struggle, and tension, and all this is perfectly handled. [image] I found the writing style very beautiful, I really like how the author expresses herself, makes everything very vivid and magical. We can also enjoy some scenes where tell us legends and stories from the creation of the first Namsara and Iskari, the creation of the dragons and their purpose, to heartbreaking love stories and even betrayals and incredible acts of justice. Simply the fact that these chapters exist makes me so happy, I'd read them all again just for joy. They're small stories that make you understand a little more the main story, the origin of everything and also allows you to meet other characters from the past. “Then may Death send his worst. Cold to freeze the love in my heart. Fire to burn my memories to ash. Wind to force me through the gates. Time to wear my loyalty away. I'll wait for you at Death's gate.” There are obviously different races in this world, but two of the ones we know most are the Skrals and the Draksors. The story, in summary, says that when the Skrals wanted to invade Firgaard, the Dragon Queen (Asha's grandmother) set them up and then defeated them, but instead of giving them punishment and leaving them free, she decided to take them as slaves for her people, the high-ranks Draksors. So in this story, the slaves excite and behind, in the shadows, they're waiting to be free. There's a lot of this happening too, and although it's a story apart from Asha's personal struggle, I think it's super interesting and I love how it's developed. I'd have liked to know more about more slaves and know their thoughts and stories, but I like how everything was executed. I like how the issue of power within society, the kingdom, and its king is discussed. As always I'll talk a little about the characters, which I must say I loved them all, although obviously, I have my favorites, so let's start. First of all, we have Asha or the Great Iskari, I loved to follow her in this story, she's the type of character that I usually enjoy because she has a very marked dark side , especially at the beginning, and this is 100% due to how people have treated her throughout her life, her father declared her an Iskari as a kind of "protection" when she was just a child, after an incident in which she called Kozu, this legendary first dragon, with the power to tell the forbidden stories and this destroyed her city and killed hundreds of people. Now the people who one day wanted to destroy her are afraid of her, and no one is allowed to even look her in the eye or have any contact with her, that's why she has grown to be a very tough, rough and closed young woman. I love Asha, I think she's a very brave and determined human being, but in addition to the darkness that attracts me of this character, she has an INCREDIBLE growth during the book and in the end, I feel proud of all her progress, especially considering that her life changes completely after some revelations. Then we have Safire, she's Asha's cousin and she's a great warrior who's always there for her cousin, she's very supportive and I can see that she has a great spirit of justice. I really loved her relationship with Asha, I'm always here for a great friendship, but they're family as well, so it makes everything even better. Safire's the daughter of a Draksor and a slave, so she should never have survived so long since such relationships are forbidden, even so, Safire has the support and total care of Asha and that's why nobody does anything to her, not even the King himself. Then we have Torwin, he's the slave of Asha's fiancée and "love interest", he's an incredible character himself, I like how from the first moment he proves not to be afraid of Iskari and how he challenges her and how he destabilizes her is absolutely perfect. On the other hand, I LOVE that he has changed my mind about the typical good guy lol, you know that I'm all for the bad/dark characters, but Torwin has my heart, he's not just kind but he's brave and very strong, he has had to going through so many punishments for his freedom, breaks my heart, deserves the best in this world. Then we have Dash, he's Asha's brother, and he's a rebel, he has never agreed with how his father governs and has much bigger plans that we'll not discover until the end. I really like him because he has a level of mystery that makes him interesting. He also cares a lot about his sister and that's just my weakness And finally I'll talk about Jarek, he's The Commander and a horrible person, honestly the level of violence he exercises both in Asha and with the rest of the world gave me chills, I could feel his anger and his eagerness for power, he's a character that although It's creepy, it's very well-created. I could talk about some more but I prefer to leave it that way, I would not like to do spoilers and I also feel that I may have more of the other characters in the next book. I haven't forgotten the DRAGONS! Believe me, it's my favorite thing about this book. I like them all and I love how they progress as you progress through the plot. .I can't say much about them because everything is spoilers, I'm just going to say that Kozu and Shadow are my babies and I love them forever It has been a long time since a book makes me cry, this one did it, so you can get an idea of how good it was. [image] There was a romance happening and OMG, SO BEAUTIFUL!!! I was in need of a romance like that, I just loved it. It's obviously as I said before, between Asha and Torwin, and although you see it coming, I mean, it's not surprising at all, it's a slow and very natural progress, IT'S NOT INSTA-LOVE!!! which makes me more than happy lol. In fact, Asha's heart is very cold at first, so although she feels that something is happening differently in her, she doesn't fall in love immediately, in fact, she has a hard time identifying signs, it's something absolutely new for her and Torwin is a sweetness that support her from the first moment. It's slow-burn, it has a very interesting past, and a connection I can't talk about much, and the sexual tension is magnificent, they don't even have to touch each other to give us the best scene in the book. I really can't say anything bad about this, maybe that hasn't been longer lol, I just loved it and it's very difficult to explain it with words, but it felt like a love story of those worth reading. The dynamics of the royal family is absolutely interesting and although I can't speak much because spoilers again, I wanted to mention it anyway. There are so many secrets between them, it's crazy, and when everything comes to light I was simply in shock, I still can't believe it OMG, I almost forgot to talk about the world-building, but first, I want to apologize if my review is all over the place, I'm so excited for this book that I don't know if I'm explaining the whole thing right, I hope you understand. MY FEELINGS!! LOL. The world-building isn't bad, in fact I liked a lot what we knew, although I would have liked it to expand a little more, we don't know other kingdoms, it's very focused on Figaard and some free lands, but not much more, what other than we know, we know it by name, but not by description. Even so, this didn't impede my enjoyment, in fact, I understand that the author wanted to focus on this kingdom since I understand that the next books are about different characters, and we'll surely visit more territories and different landscapes. “Iskari let others define her because she thought she didn't have a choice. Because she thought she was alone and unloved.” I liked the ending, although I confess that it wasn't the high-impact conclusion I expected, in fact, there are scenes in the book that leaves you breathless, for its beautiful descriptions and because it has really impressive/impactful moments, the ending hasn't achieved that effect, even so, it was good, obviously very happy with that ending, I really wish I had more of the characters, though. A part of me thought that maybe the next book would be about Safire, and I would have LOVED that, but I read that it's about Roa, and it's okay, I mean, I didn't get to know her 100% to know if I would like more of her, but I'll give her an opportunity. I think that the books that change characters are a hit or miss for me, but hopefully, if there are dragons and more about the world, I end up enjoying anyway, maybe there are small appearances of old characters..., Oh! I hope that happens, it would make me more than happy. Obviously, I highly recommend the book, it's not easy for me to give 5 stars to something, I tend to be very critical of the books I read and that's fine for me, because now when I find a book like this one, that has filled me with feels and It made me cry and laugh, it's even more special. I hope you decide to give it a try, nothing would make me happier than talking about it with you. I recommend it if you like high-fantasy, dark heroines, complex characters, an intriguing plot, and DRAGONS! ...more |

I enjoyed how this story is told, we go from the past to the present with a thousand years of distance between one chapter and another and that has been super entertaining for me to read. This book is a great adventure with very strong female characters and that's great, but at the same time I think it's unnecessarily long and can become heavy at times. I don't madly in love with this book as other people are, but I do think that the idea is very good and creative [image] 3.5/5 Stars You can find this one and more of my reviews on my blog A Book. A Thought. The story follows Rielle and Eliana two independent and strong young women, separated by centuries of distance, who have the power to save their world or destroy it. Rielle sees his best friend in danger and doesn't hesitate to help him, but in the process she exposes her ability to control the seven types of elemental magic. The only people who should be able to control such power are a pair of prophesied queens: a Queen of Light and a Queen of Blood. To prove that she's the Sun Queen, Reille will have to test her magic through different types of tests and if she can't control it, she'll be executed. A thousand years later the story of Rielle is a mere fairy tale for Eliana, when the Undying Empire conquered her kingdom, she decides to dedicate her life to violence to keep her family alive. Until one day her mother disappears along with other women in the city and to find her she joins a rebel captain on a dangerous mission and discovers that the evil in the heart of the empire is more terrible than she ever imagined ... The stories of both girls will cross and the incredible connections between them will determine the destiny of the world [image] The story sounds without doubt incredible, right?! I think that although it has many magic aspects that we see quite often in fantasy, it's still a unique and original idea. I think that everything is very well thought out on by author from the magical aspect to the connections between one time and another. I'm not used to reading a format in which we read the story of the main characters a thousand years apart from each other, that was something really new for me, but even so it worked and ended up being one of my favorite aspects of the book. On the other hand I think that at the beginning it's somewhat difficult to keep the rhythm between one chapter and another, remember everything that is happening and the names and all that stuffs, so it can be a bit overwhelming but once you continue it becomes easier to move forward in the story. I'm a bit surprised by the sexual content of the book, I think that to be Young Adult it can be a bit excessive, even when the main characters are between 19 and 20 years old. So I want to warn you in case this is something problematic for you. Personally the sexual content is not a problem for me if it's well managed, although I must admit that in this book I couldn't help but feel how all the characters are quite sexualized, maybe too much I'm not sure how I feel about the girls, there were times when I loved Eliana and then she did something that I didn't like and then I loved Rielle but then something happened and my thoughts changed, I know it sounds very confusing but it's real lol. I think they're very complex , intense and above all very dramatic characters. You can't stop reading about them, but at the same time you feel that you don't agree with their personal attitudes and decisions since most of the time they're both very impulsive, you know?. I think both characters were built with the intention that been controversial and that although they can be unlikeable at times even then you can't stop reading about them. Now that I have finished the book I think that I definitely don't have a favorite, although I enjoy a little more of Eliana's point of view, I couldn't fully commit myself to anyone In summary, the most interesting about Rielle is her connection with magic and watching her learn and interact with her mentor was something that I enjoyed a lot. The most interesting of Eliana, on the other hand, is that undoubtedly is the protagonist of the best action scenes and her chapters have a mystery/intrigue aura that make it very addictive to read The first pages of this book are pure fire and they hooked me completely with the plot, it's an incredible way to start with a book, I think it was so successful that I can't stop mentioning it I want to talk a little about the bisexual rep in the book that everyone has been talking about. Personally I feel that it wasn't explored in a very deep way, which I would have loved to see, since It's not common for a main character in fantasy to be bisexual. I think the subject is mentioned at some point but there is not much happening, so I want you to know that if you're looking for a strong bi representation in this book I don't think you really get one [image] I think it's a pity that the author has made this book so long, I know we all love a hugh book if the story is extensive and needs a great development, but personally I don't think this book needs 500 pages, I think it would have worked better if was shorter because the plot is undoubtedly catchy, but there are scenes that really are no more than filling and make the book heavy and boring and I really don't think that a story so well thought out deserve that, you know? Finally the end of the story is very good, I enjoyed the last chapters and the revelation was very ingenious, I didn't expect it at all and I loved that. After all this I still recommend the book if you like dual points of views, if you enjoy strong and independent female characters and especially if you like action and magic. I think that although I had some obvious problems with it, I think that most of them are very personal and maybe they don't prevent you from enjoying it. I can't stop mentioning that it's a very long book so if you plan to read it you have to know that you have a long way to go and you'll have to make time for it. ...more |

I want to thank Netgalley and Random House Children's for providing me with this copy in exchange for an honest review My expectations were quite high I want to thank Netgalley and Random House Children's for providing me with this copy in exchange for an honest review My expectations were quite high with this one, I think that actually sounds much better than it really is [image] 2.5/5 Stars You can find this one and more of my reviews on my blog A Book. A Thought. This is a book that takes place in the same world as in Serafina, personally I haven't read that book, but I think that if you have read it, you may enjoy more aspects of Tess of the Road Tess is a very particular girl, in Goredd women must be ladies and men must perform the function of taking care of women, but Tess has other plans for her, she has always been rebel since she was little, always looking for adventures and getting into trouble. Until one day her parents decide to send her to a nunnery to correct her behavior for which she decides to escape pretending to be a boy, along the way she'll meet a faithful friend, a dragon who will protect her in this adventure. But soon Tessa will realize that the past is a heavy burden to bear. One of the things I enjoyed the most was the author's writing style, I read that it has been one of the weak points for alot of people, but not for me. I feel that it's obvious that she knows how to write in a very beautiful and lyrical way and although I really liked this aspect, it hasn't been enough I think that this book really doesn't have a solid plot, the idea of reading about a character like Tess was unique to me because of the fact that I think she's a character that is obviously very ahead of her time, she has very strong feminist thoughts and It doesn't categorize people according to their sex, which is brilliant for a character from the medieval era. Returning to the plot itself, I think the book has several moments where it seems that finally the plot reached its most important point but that actually never happens. It has brief moments where there is action but they're cut very abruptly, which has prevented me from enjoying them 100%. Anyway, this is something very personal, maybe you enjoy this particular aspect, but I prefer when the plot is more solid and really is directed to something in particular. [image] The idea of the dragon is another of the things for which I wanted to read this book but it hasn't been entirely convincing, I think that it lacks more development to this character and the promise has fallen short I mentioned in my Goodreads Update that although the book is indicated as YA I have found that it leans more for the genre of MG, even though the ages of the characters are classic from YA, their behavior and the way in which the book is handle It seem pretty much MG. Centralizing in Tess for a moment, I want to mention that although she's a character who obviously has noble intentions, I think she has never fully matured. There are many moments where she simply ruins things for the other characters but never ends up recognizing that it was her fault, there are also moments where her rebel spirit reaches the limit turning into stupid, this makes me feel annoyed with her on several occasions. You know how important it's for me the construction and development of the characters and I haven't felt particularly atached with Tess, this obviously influences my rating a lot. So in summary I warn you about Tess I think she's not an easy character to love [image] Sadly I've seen many people DNF this book, which is a shame, but in some way I get it, it's built in a very messy way and I think it's honestly too long when there is not much happening really ...more |

I'll do, as always, this spoiler-free review, but I'll have to talk about things from the previous books, so if you haven't read the main trilogy or the Six of Crows books, I recommend that you don't read this review yet because it's impossible for me to talk about this book without mentioning things that happened in those books. With that said, and leaving aside my feelings for the ending aside (which I LOVED), I can say... I enjoyed it. It wasn't what I expected, in fact, it's a rather slow book and to be about Nikolai, it focuses more on other characters rather than on him, leaving that aside, there are very solid scenes and Leigh Bardugo shows again why a writing queen, I'm still impressed by her writing style so passionate and wonderful. It's such an amazing story full of deceptions and betrayals and I love that. Jude continues to be one of the best female characters I've read this year, her growth is remarkable and I can't wait for the next book because that ending is EVERYTHING [image] Original Review || 05/01/18 "If I cannot be better than them, I will become so much worse." WOOOW This book is really fantastic, it's dark and powerful, I loved it. It's my first Holly Black book but it certainly will not be the last one. I can definitely see the comparison with Game of Thrones, this book is full of good things: betrayal, political intrigues, deceptions and plot twists. I just can't stop thinking about everything I just read. I think I'm still in SHOCK. Really Good Stuff guys! [image] 4.5/5 Stars You can find this one and more of my reviews on my blog A Book. A Thought. The Cruel Prince follows the story of Jude, who after witnessing her parents murder, being only a little girl, is forced along with her two sisters to live in the High Court of Faerie, with Madoc, whom has been the executor of her parents. Ten years later Jude wants more than anything to belong to the world of fairies despite being a human and earn her place in the Court. But to achieve her goals, Jude will be forced to make extreme decisions, in a world where deceptions, revenge and death are constant. How far will Jude get to get what she wants? Ok, the family tree is quite complicated here so I'm going to explain it separately a bit. Our main character is Jude, she has a twin sister named Taryn, she has another sister named Vivi who is the older sister. Vivi is the daughter of who is the murderer of her parents, Madoc and he's a fairy. Madoc was already some time in search of his ex-wife, who was human and who had escaped from the fairies kingdom taking their daughter with her, that's why he killed her once he finds her and then takes to the three girls to the fairies world so as to be able to raise his blood daughter, Vivi, and also to Jude and Taryn, since he feels that they're his responsibility. Currently Madoc is married to Oriana and they also have a young son named Oak. The End lol [image] I think that all the construction of the fairy world is wonderful, you just get lost in it, Holly does an excellent job in this aspect. The fairies are described in this book as deceptive and treacherous beings and I love that, I think it gives a lot of darkness to the plot and makes it even more captivating to read it. You never expect what will happen next, especially with these creatures that can become so perverse. Even under Jude's eyes we understand that although she belongs to this world, she isn't willing to trust 100% in any of them and this shows how dangerous this world is. At first I wasn't so sure about the book, I thought maybe it wouldn't be what I expected, there is a lot of hype surrounding it and that has made my expectations quite high, so I think from the beginning I expected to be captivated, but it tooks a little more time for this to happen, I think after about 100 pages there was when I really hooked with the story and began to know more about the characters and their motivations, that really got me. Jude is great. I LOVE her, I think she's one of the best main characters I've read about. I love how we can see her growth through the book, she's very powerful, fierce and determined, and after knowing her a bit we understand that she'll do whatever it takes to achieve her goals. I think Jude always tries to be careful with her feelings, it is obvious that she loves her sisters and her brother, but we also see her feelings with Madoc, he has raised her since childhood, which makes her feel love for him, but at the same time is the same creature that has killed her parents, and she never forgot that fact. I love how every time something bad happens to her she never gives up, that's wonderful, every stumble helps her to be stronger and stronger, she's really brave, I feel she's a character that can't stop surprising me. [image] Although you'll feel that you know everything that is in Jude's mind, you don't, and this is great because when you think you know everything, she jumps with some magnificent plot twists!. The plot twists are great, guys, they were one of my favorite things, they have been super surprising for me and they always come from those who you least expect it. Also one of these revelations has broken my heart and I have felt pretty betrayed, in fact I feel that I can't yet forgive what these characters have done, really a disappointment, my poor little heart lol. I like very much how it touches the subject of love in a not "normal" kind of way, in this story they can love someone so strongly and in the same way hate her/him, so you're never really sure who is on the side of who. It's an uncertainty all the time, anyone can be the traitor, even those who least expect it and I think Jude is very aware of this for most of the story, even towards the end where she is much wiser. I don't like Taryn, I don't know, there was a moment where I tried to put myself in her place and understand her but I just don't like her. Although she's Jude twin sister they're completely different and although the two of them want to belong to the world where they live, Taryn feels that her only way of doing it is to marry a fairy. I decided that I would give her another chance after seeing how she tried to protect her sister, and then something happens and OMG, NOP. I can't say more, but probably you'll understand me once you read it. Vivi is great, she's the most normal of the book lol. I like how even though she's the legitimate Madoc's daughter she's not interested in being part of that world at all, and while the other girls try to fit in, she keeps escaping into the mortal world to try to have the life which she feels was taken away from her. Her attitude is super comprencible for me, I think that because she's the oldest then she has more memories of her normal life and her parents, which makes her feel a lot more spiteful toward Madoc and towards her whole world. It's really valuable as she supports her sisters even when she doesn't agree with their decisions, I think she's a great big sister [image] We're going to talk about Cardan, I know that he's like an important point of the plot, but I don't feel that I have managed to really know him, which is a shame. At first, I was thinking like, what is his problem? He's the typical bad guy, and being a prince is quite obvious that he's very spoiled and capricious, plus he's used to everyone doing what he wants, and I was like OMG, someone kill him!. Then towards the end we can know him more in depth and I liked it a little more, so yes, I'm interested in knowing what will happen with him, because the end was FANTASTIC. The relationship between Cardan and Jude is sufficiently compelling so that I want to know more about it, I think this particular book gives us a bit of what a romantic relationship could be, but it doesn't really focus on that at all. And I must say that I enjoy when fantasy books aren't focused on romance, it's refreshing The political drama that the story manages is absolutely brilliant, and since they have compared it a lot with Game of Thrones you can guess what it's about, alot of princes and just one crown can be a big problem. I don't want to say much more about this point because there are so many things that happen that I don't want to do any spoilers. But it's just great, and it's handled in a very clever way, and at the end will make you very surprised [image] The ending was incredible, so good and unexpected. I love how Holly's mind has created a whole situation that I didn't see coming at all. I can't wait to have the second book in my hands !. I recommend it a lot if you like dark fairies and a fantasy world that is both captivating and twisted, where anything can happen. The betrayal, the deceptions and the ambition are the protagonists of this book, I really believe that everyone should read it! ...more |

We build it up around us, not realizing that we're “The funny thing about armor is that it doesn't just keep other people out. It keeps us in. We build it up around us, not realizing that we're trapping ourselves.” Oh guys, I loved this book much more than the first one, so I'm very happy to have continued with the series, although I feel that it wasn't very smart of me, since now I want more and I've realized that there are no more books after this one for the moment and I'm just like WHY!? [image] 4.5/5 Stars You can find this one and more of my review on my blog A Book. A Thought. Let's talk about this wonderful book, in this installment we'll see Mackenzie confronting her demons and being forced to make decisions that could change everything, including to The Archived itself. We see her battle against her own nightmares in which Owen appears to torture her and kill her inside them, but then Mack begins to have mental gaps and she start to wake up with wounds in his body; and with the Archive more and more over her everything begins to become more and more complicated This time I feel that it has been much darker than the previous one, we have alot of suspense and mystery moments, where I was like: "What the fuck is going on?!", I loved that, I really enjoy that the story is layers of wrapping me of the form in which it did, then surprise me and take me completely off guard. I feel that what differentiates this book from the previous one, is that in this one begins to questioning The Archived alot and the reason of its actions, which I found super interesting. I enjoyed the most of the book, I would have liked to have more Da during the story, maybe in flashbacks, but even so I can't complain, the whole plot is told in a brilliant way and I feel that I probably enjoyed this second installment more due to that I already understand more this world and how it works, so it was easier to get into it than with the first one. Owen is the evil character, you know, the one who comes to create problems, and although we knew him in the first book as the good guy who earns the Mackenzie's trust, I think that this time, you see how he no longer conceals his evil and his true personality so I liked him more, it's a very good character. He returns with this idea of being something like a "revolutionary" to change all the rules of the Archive, and with his incredible dialogues with Mack has won a very important place in this book. I also feel that he plants many doubts, lies and mysteries throughout the plot and this makes everything have that creepy vibe that I love! [image] I'm very pleased with the Mackenzie's growth during The Unbound, I feel that in the end she has grown a lot and although I've always known that she's brave, this time she really has shown that she can fend for herself. I have been able to see her in a more human and sensitive way than she was before, I think this change is a good thing because it makes me feel even closer to her I have to confess that Mack's relationship with Wesley isn't my favorite, I feel somewhat disoriented by the way they come and go, and eventually I get tired, I really don't get it lol. In this book I feel that Wesley is left aside and has been almost irrelevant, his presence wasn't indispensable according to my point of view and sometimes even I forgot that he was there, and although I liked him in the first book, I feel that definitely he's not one of my favorite characters We have the integration of many new characters that contribute a lot to the plot, I feel that, as I said in the previous review of the first book, the secondary characters are splendid, I love them, I find them super diverse and entertaining, also their personal stories are very well told. There's a lot of family drama in this installment, and I still don't know how I feel about Mack's mother, sometimes I don't understand her behavior. Also we'll see how the world of the Archive begins to mix much more with the real world and although that makes that we see our main character lie even more, I feel that it has gone great and it gives much adrenaline and all this agreed with the creepy scenes was amazing !. I want to emphasize as always the Victoria Schwab writing style, so good! [image] It's a shame that there are no more books of the saga, I'm crazy to continue reading about this world, I also thought that the end has been too open and I think the story deserves a better closure I highly recommend these books if you're looking for a fast, entertaining, dark and action-packed reading, also the characters are incredible ...more |

Okay, I think this will be an unpopular opinion. This book has so much hype that I really thought I would love it, that's always a problem for me since I don't always like books that others love, in half I thought I was hooking myself but then I started to get bored a lot, I struggle to finish it and my brain hurts so we talk about it
[image] 2/5 Stars You can find this one and more of my reviews on my blog A Book. A Thought. It's so difficult to choose where to start talking, I'll try to be as brief and orderly as possible to be clear, I really wanted to like this book , REALLY, I've seen many incredible reviews about it, in fact in Goodreads is full of them, which is why I believe that I'm the only person who has had problems with it and that makes me feel super bad! I want to be clear before continuing: My review is not meant to offend anyone neither those who love the book or her author. My first impression was OMG there are so many difficult names and definitions here, but it's normal in this type of fantasy book, so I thought there would come a point where I wouldn't bother about, that point never came guys, I was trying to remember every kind of witch and every name of world places and characters, was very difficult [image] I would say that my main problem was that I was VERY CONFUSED, I don't think this is well explained, I think the author treats this book as if it were a sequel where the reader should already know everything about the world and everything about the magic system, because I didn't see anything well explained here. The story talks about a war that is to come and how inevitable this is, but I need to know more, I mean,Why war is inevitable?, What's the reason for ? , I can't just figuret out something for myself, I just needed more information to feel really absorbed into this world, the plot and understand a little more of the actions of the characters I think that the world building is very poor, and again, I need more information!. We have a beautiful map ahead and that's great, but what else? , I need to know what kind of world they live on, their beliefs, customs, descriptions of landscapes, anything!. Also I was waiting for her to explain which races were friends of which ones and which ones enemys and why. Iseult also comes from a kind of tribe, which I think it's really interesting but I don't know why everyone hates her, OMG so many questions [image] Everything that has to do with the types of witches and their specialties was very interesting, even though I didn't think it was well explained, we have a lot of incredible races but I don't know exactly where they come from, how do they originate ?, if they're all witches or some people aren't. I was with a lot of names as Trhuthwitch or Bloodwitch and more and thought "That is so great" but at the same time I can't know everything just with a name, I mean, I can't guess what each one does, what their abilities are or what their weaknesses One of the main reasons why I wanted to read this book was because of the number of people who had told me about the great relationship of friendship between the main characters and well the thing is, when the girls were separated and could see how they needed at each other, that was really cute, I liked it, but there are moments that I don't understand that binds them besides being Threadsisters, what I understand here is that being Thredsisters unites them as sisters, right? But what makes them really friends? When they're together I don't see the strong connection that everyone talks about and the characters only highlight the importance of being together when they're separated so I don't know, it wasn't convincing for me [image] I think that the reason why I finished the book was Aeudon, I really liked this character and if there will be a whole book about him, I would read it, I think the chapters where he was the protagonist were very interesting, is a dark character and being the villain was very interesting to read and be inside his mind and know his thoughts The plot is basically about Safiya (whom I couldn't stand) and how they all try to capture her because I think she's the last Truthwitch so together with Iseult they escape and fight and escape (again) to avoid being captured, meanwhile we know other characters but there really isn't that much more and if there would be a solid explanation about the magic system or the construction of the world I wouldn't have minded, but it was simply very boring for me. And I think that feeling bored is the worst thing for a reader [image] I think that I would try something more of the author because I really want to give it another chance, I feel that if so many people love her work, it should be for something so I will not surrender, only this book wasn't made for me and I don't think I'm interested in continuing the saga ...more |

This is a fantastic reading, full of magic, that contains one of the most beautiful sisterhood ties I've read about.-look that cover. BEAUTIFUL! [image This is a fantastic reading, full of magic, that contains one of the most beautiful sisterhood ties I've read about.-look that cover. BEAUTIFUL! [image] I want to thank NetGalley and ABRAMS Kids for providing me with this copy in exchange for an honest review 4/5 Stars You can find this one and more of my reviews on my blog A Book. A Thought. I thought it would take me longer to read this book, since when you first start with it may seem a bit heavy or slow-paced, but I quickly overcame it and I found myself flying through it, which makes me want to read something more about the author like right now! The story follows Od and his sister Tru. Od is always telling Tru wonderful and fantastic stories about monsters and magical creatures and how they are destined to hunt down these creatures, just as their mother did. Until one day Od disappears and Tru is alone trying to figure out how much is true in the stories that his sister has told her since childhood. I love the way the title plays with the names of the characters is very original and accurate. The story is told between leaps from the present to the past, the past with the POV of Od, where we know more about her childhood and the years she has spent away from her sister and the Tru's present POV, who is trying to hunt a demon which she thinks is prowling around the city. Both views make the story really catchy and exciting, but it also touches deeper topics such as family and loyalty [image] I've enjoyed meeting these girls, they are both strong and smart but at the same time they have completely different personalities and experiences which makes the book super interesting and gives us different perspectives about the things that are happening. I feel that there is a spooky touch in the book too and I've enjoyed that aspect a lot, especially related to the monsters and how some places are described is really good I felt a little more drawn to the Od's point of view, I personally found it much more interesting than Tru's, but perhaps it's because I was much more interested in knowing about the past, and It's told in such a wonderful way, that mystery vibe that possesses has totally caught me, also I feel that I have bored a little with the Tru story , but this is only my opinion and in the end I feel that both stories and how they connect are great I want to warn you that if you're looking for a book of kick-ass girls fighting non-stop monsters, may not be the book for you, I feel that although it has moments of action and are great, it's based much more on the aspect of mystery, the union of sisters and what family means. Which I've found great but I recognize that isn't what the book sells from the beginning so I was taken by surprise [image] One of my favorite things about the book was the writing style, it's my first Cat Winters book but I know it will not be the last one, her writing caught me and has a style so unique and poetic that I think is ideal for this type of genre, especially for Historical Fiction. I feel that the clever way that Winters plays with what's real and what's fantasy makes this book unique and makes it very different from the other books that can touch this type of subjects So, of course I recommend it, I've enjoyed it a lot, especially if you're looking for some historical with fantasy and great ties of sisterhood, you'll love this, plus: The writing style has something definitely unique ...more |

I want to thank to NetGalley and Random House Children's for providing me with this copy in exchange for an honest review
I really enjoyed reading I want to thank to NetGalley and Random House Children's for providing me with this copy in exchange for an honest review I really enjoyed reading this guys, I live for the time travel themes, that was in fact what make me to want to read this book and was handled in a super fun and interesting way, plus I'm so happy about the Doctor Who references , because I'm crazy Whovian so I hope you understand me [image] 4/5 Stars You can find this one and more of my review on my blog A Book. A Thought. I like Robin Hood and everything that has to do with, ie, I know the story well, I'm not a fan but anyway I really liked the idea of seeing Ellie, this main character who is characterized by being a strong and Intelligent girl and also she's in n archery team !, how incredible is that ?, I can actually see in her a kind of hero, is a very well created character I liked to see her growth and to be present in her decisions, her intolerance to Injustice it was even adorable, she's temperamental but in a good way, a great character. [image] I've found an extremely original book and I recommend it a lot especially if you're tired of the typical plot in YA, this book breaks the schemes a little and makes of something that we always read, something unique and fun, in addition the end I think it's very good I've Loved loved the setting of a Medieval England described in the book, was so amazing to be in the middle of all that action and adventure in the middle of that era, the descriptions were really good, it becameabsolutely my favorite thing of the whole book , Wish to be there I was expecting a little more about the subject of time travel, ie, it was well managed and original, as I've already said, but maybe some kind of explanation of why everything happened in the first place, would have been great, yet it isn't something that should be there, but I would have liked to know more about it anyway I wasn't at all interested in the romantic aspect of the book, but this is the first time that I feel that really doesn't matter. I feel the book has so much to give, it was so funny and original that it really doesn't need the romantic touch at all, and although it's present, it hasn't been relevant to me. It holds up well with its action plot and its hilarious characters, are perfect. The personalities of each are very well defined and give a very special touch to the era. I was really sad when I finished it and I would surely read it again because I've had a fantastic time with it and it has been a very refreshing reading [image] I hope you give it a chance is a very fun book, its release date is just in a few days, you'll laugh and get excited, I highly recommend it ...more |

It's a book with a world-building with no flaws, is absolutely brilliant and is very well thought out. The only thing I would like right now is to spend a little more time in this world, so I hope I can read the sequel VERY soon, I would do it right now if I didn't have this big TBR ahead, but really a book that's worth the hype. [image] 4.5/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 You can find more of my reviews on my blog A Book. A Thought. This is a story that takes place in a dystopic world where humanity has reached its maximum degree of knowledge, have found a way to evolve and now there are no wars, no hunger, no poverty in the world, as well as no more death. Now that humans are eternal, the Scythe's job is to make of "death angels," killing people to keep the overpopulation under control. The book follows Citra and Rowan, both were chosen as Scythe's apprentices, a job that neither of them wants, and now they must learn the "art" of taking lives, knowing that the consequence can be loss their own live. The concept of the book, as well as the world-building, are simply brilliant, it has been quite a while since I read a dystopian book and I really enjoyed it a lot, and I want to continue reading a bit more about this kind of genre now. I think sometimes we're afraid to end up reading the same things, but this book isn't repetitive or cliche, at all, it's extremely original and also mixes a super-technological age, with a very deep discussion about what life is really about and what are we doing in this world. I think one of the things that stands out the most in this book, is that you can open your mind a little and think about many things, like, if it's really worth living forever and what we would do in that scenario. For me, to go inside a little of the human mind in this kind of fantastic stories is always very interesting, and I understand what the author tries to do with his metaphors and thoughts. There are very short chapters dedicated to the Scythe's diaries and OMG, they were, without doubt, my favorites, they give you the possibility to know more deeply the thoughts and desires of the characters, and also make you question many things about humanity, they're very smart and I loved them. They're also a great transition from one chapter to another. [image] “My greatest wish for humanity is not for peace or comfort or joy. It is that we all still die a little inside every time we witness the death of another. For only the pain of empathy will keep us human. There’s no version of God that can help us if we ever lose that.” At first, I felt kind of weird about the plot, it took me a bit to understand how was and means to be a Scythe, I went into it thinking that they were like these super dark and evil people, since they took lives and all that, but I found something else, very different. The Scythe although they have a very important and ruthless work, they live their lives in a very simple and monotonous way, they can't obsess about what they are, so most of them have very humble lives. Now I understand the concept, and I like it, but at the beginning there's a scene where they must go to take the life of a woman, and go in something that's like a public bus or something, and honestly I thought it was the most absurd scenes ever, I don't know, it just didn't fit well in my head. But then it gets better, and it was interesting to see how the Scythe are incorporated into society and to see how they live. I liked the characters, but I was able to connect with them towards the end, at first I think the author got involved and put all his focus on the world and explain how it works, so I think the characters don't have a lot of depth or personality, but when the story is developed more, it improves a lot, and we get to know them better. I think Citra is a super stubborn girl and she's impulsive and always says what she thinks, it can cause a lot of emotions in readers, but I personally liked her, I think she's very clever, and I LOVE her individual story, it was my favorite. Then we have Rowan and I liked him, although I'm not in love with the character or anything. .I like his growth, he starts being a very honest and good boy, and his personality ends up adapting and changing to survive, which I admire Citra and Rowan both come from very different families and I think that's very interesting, Rowan has a very large family and is like the "forgotten" child and nobody pays attention to him, while Citra has a small and very loving family. And for me, this is very interesting because when their worlds collide they react in different ways and I think that, in a certain way, it's due to the family they have been raised for. And then we have my favorite characters, which no one will be surprised about, and they're Faraday and Marie Curie, you know that I'm trash for good "master" figures, and they're everything I love in this type of characters. I could read the teacher-student relationship trope forever and always love it, I mean, not as a romance, but as a special and paternal connection, it's my weakness. Both characters are very deep, smart, wise and incredibly interesting to read. I LOVE THEM. Their scenes are gold. [image] “Everyone is guilty of something, and everyone still harbors a memory of childhood innocence, no matter how many layers of life wrap around it. Humanity is innocent; humanity is guilty, and both states are undeniably true.” What could I say about the writing style, right?, I just think it's VERY smart, mature and addictive, I loved it There's almost no romance here which I enjoyed a lot, what little there is, I think it's kind of unreal, I didn't feel the connection between the main characters, it's like I liked it, on the one hand, but I don't feel like is "love", you know?, I think it could be something in the future but, in this book it felt a bit hasty and forced, so I hope that aspect will improve in the next one The plot twists are very well done, I was like in shock with one of them, and it made me happy, I almost died, though!. When a book in general, makes me feel many emotions I know that it's because I'm loving it and this really achieved it. The Sci-Fi aspect comes from the hand of an Artificial Intelligence, which is like a cloud where all the information in the world is now stored and is also responsible for managing every aspect of society, all except the Scythe since they're governed by something else. I wanted to mention this aspect because I loved it and I would like to see and read even more about it in the next book, I really like how it works and also open the door to infinite possibilities. I really loved the book and the little things that I might not have really liked aren't a big thing, I highly recommend the book if you like futuristic dystopia, deep plots with important discussions, there are people killing other people all the time, so there's a lot of discussion about what it means to take a life, also I recommend it if you want to read a wonderful world-building. Also, the Scythe are extremely interesting and deep human beings and I love exploring their lives, so I think it's a unique aspect that you would like to read about. I can't wait to read the second book, I hope to do it next month, I would do it right now but I have other readings to prioritize, even though I'm so excited, the end left me breathless, LOVED IT !! ...more |

Oh well wow, that was fast, I had no idea that the book was so short, I would call it a short story, because it only has 56 pages, which is crazy, it was clearly quick to read but it was, certainly, the opposite of what I expected [image] Anette is a princess, she's forced to marry with prince Everest because it's what every princess "is supposed to do", but Anette can't be less excited about it, in fact she doesn't want to marry the prince and not just because she doesn't knows him, but she doesn't feel like loving anyone or falling in love with anyone, she's an asexual character, which was super interesting to read. Well despite everything, she has hopes that once she get married then she might get in love with the prince as her mother told her, but one night she discovers her husband and the stable man kissing each other, then she gets crazy and starts yelling things at him, she feels so frustrated because she has had to give up her life for him and she thinks that he has not even mattered in any way and after facing him she wants so much that he disappear, that in fact he does, and then she feels super guilty about and deside to undertake a trip to find him so that he can be happy next to the person he has chosen, which is not her, of course and it's here when everything becomes a bit weird guys I think that the story seeks to be original and different and that is wonderful I've never read about a main character like this one, so I was excited to see where this was going. I like the idea of Anette to think that happiness doesn't have to go through a marriage nor to love someone, I think it's a very advanced thinking for the time where the plot unfolds. I really liked the fact that the search for Anette is for the happiness of seconds and not for her own, that is very noble of her [image] Originally I thought this would be a revenge story , for some reason sounded like that, but in the end I ended up finding myself with a fairy tale which took me by surprise, I didn't expect the magic at all, but yeah, we have much of that here. In her journey to find the prince, Anette met very peculiar, magical and somewhat creepy characters , that somehow help her achieve her goal Once you get used to how strange this is, then you can enjoy it, on the other hand, for being so short ,we don't have much time with the characters, so I only have first impressions of most of them. Find a little absurd the fact that Anette didn't wonder herself where all those magical moments came out, it was like something totally normal for a woman to appear in a tree and then she blinks and is next to her and she was like "I didn't want to get married" lol . [image] I think she asked all the wrong questions during her trip, although I admire her bravery and audacity, she's a real and daring girl so I think if I would have had more time with her maybe I would have enjoyed it more In short, it's a short story with a great diversity of characters, I think I understood where her want to reach and what the author wants to express with her plot, you don't need a romantic love or have a relationship or get married or anything of it, to be happy, and that's a good lesson, although it wasn't what I expected, it was a bit confusing overall ...more |

I should have read this book a while ago, but I'm happy to finally have done it. This year it's blessing me with incredible surprises regarding readings and this book is one of them, although I love witches stories and it's usually something I enjoy, I didn't expect this story to have such an impact on me, especially since I've already read the author in the past and I haven't enjoyed it so much. It ends up being an incredible book and although it can move slow at times, I think it's such a solid beginning of a story that promises a lot. [image] Source 4.5/5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐ ...more |
