I enjoyed this book until the chapters about having kids started.
The author can certainly write, the quality of the story however goes down exponentially as the book progresses.
I don’t think there is much beyond the skillful writing other than the simple massage of “frugality is good, it can save the environment and make you happy along the way too” ...more

This book, however, is a must read for anyone who has a job, regardless of your position. I touches upon a very important point, that challenging each other's opinion should be regarded as the truest form of help and should be values but there is an art to it. There is a fine line between providing useful thought and frustrating your colleague with your stubbornness and this book teaches you how to walk that fine line, or at least attempts to highlight a few ideas to help you navigate it.
We have made the cultures of the corporations either so toxic that no one dares to speak up or so unnecessarily complicit that people, too often, agree with each other without challenging each other's opinions. Adam Grant proposes building a challenge network. He teaches you how to push back and challenge ideas without being rude or stand offish.
He brings up a few ideas for when you like to persuade people to change their opinion but the most interesting example was the idea of Vaccine whisperers. If you can change the minds of the anti-vaxxers you can probably change the mind of everyone else around you

This was my second time reading this book and I enjoyed it even more the second time. You can read the last chapter first to fully understand what you should look for in this book. In the last chapter (which should have been the intro) you will learn where you can use thé culture of rules and processes and where you should chose thé culture of freedom and flexibility. The rest of the chapters tell you how to implement it in your organization. Excellent book if you need to manage an organization. ...more

Gabriel Zucman has done a wonderful job researching this book. Especially since collecting data for this book should have been extremely difficult. After all there is nothing more secretive than the details of the trillions of dollars that are sheltered in Switzerland.
I used to think the rich just parks its money in Switzerland or in the Cayman Islands just to hide their wealth but God the actual system that is devised to help the wealthy is more complex than that. They have turned financial engineering to the new and questionable heights. The book walks you through how the wealthy registers a pair of companies in the US and in the Switzerland or in Ireland and uses this pair to shelter money in a very convoluted fashion. You have to read the book to truly understand the complexity of this system. The book is so well researched and so detailed I wouldn't be surprised if
I imagine the author can update the book with new material on how cryptocurrencies have made this system more complex.

Dave Ramsey wraps his bad money advise in some Christian religiosity and sells it to the uneducated. Some of his advices are simply wrong. For instance, rather than paying off the credit card with the highest interest, he suggests paying off the credit card with the lowest outstanding debt first. If you are not a high school drop out or an alcoholic living on the street you can probably find a better book to read about personal finance. There is place in hell for those who abuse religion to make money from the naivety of the uneducated, and Dave Ramsey will definitely be the mayor of that place. ...more
