Finn Masters, a television mystery writer has held a grudge against an old school friend Lavender Rhodes for literally years. Lavender is a very successful television star of an extremely popular sitcom in America. He blames her for pretty much everything that has ever gone wrong for him in his life whether warranted or not. But now he has the chance to plot a payback by writing her characters story line in her sitcom. He sets out to make her character spiral out of control, and unfortunately for him none of his efforts succeed. Finn must reassess his feelings and take a hard look at himself and his feelings toward Lavender. This is a very funny and enjoyable story, full of fun characters and snappy dialog. It is more of a paranormal thriller featuring supernatural elements and conflict between good and evil. It starts with four teenagers ghost hunting one night in an old abandoned mental institution. Only three come out and the lost girl Riley Holt is lost to who knows where. There is a malevolent force within the walls of the hospital that is keeping lost souls of former patients from moving on after their deaths and Riley has been taken by this force back in time. Agent Maria Miller and her partner Frankie have been called in to help find Riley as they have had former experience dealing with the paranormal. How will they retrieve Riley from another dimension is the question of the day. The story is short and fast paced. Recommended for fun. 3.5 stars.

When her father suddenly dies she is left only a small inheritance from her mother who was from a small village Sainte-Colombe, in Provence. Longing to connect with her mothers roots she travels to Sainte-Colombe and on a whim buys a run down cottage. The welcome is cold from the townsfolk, especially from the towns mayor. Her mother was known in the village as a 'witch' and people are stand offish. But as Tempèsta begins to restore her little cottage and work with herbs and plants a little bit of magic begins to happen. Her herbs proliferate and her new home becomes her forever home. As she offers her help to the village that is steadily losing its inhabitants to larger cities she finds love and acceptance and a new foundation for family. This is a feel good novel that I really enjoyed listening to. There are elements of magical realism running throughout which enhance the story. I love stuff like that. Highly recommended. 4.5 stars....more

Talia has always been the good twin and Tabitha the not so good. They have an unusual relationship for twins, not exactly competitive but not super sisterly either. A new neighbor Anne, a mystery writer moves in to their neighborhood and Tabitha is instantly suspicious of her and even convinces Talia to break in to her house to 'check it out'. Even though they find nothing out of the ordinary Tabitha and Talia's husband Zach take an instant dislike to Anne. As Talia becomes more and more friendly with Anne, Tabitha and Zach bad mouth Anne and try to interfere with this new friendship, and as the story progresses we learn exactly why. This was a fun quick read that I enjoyed. It definitely held some surprises and the audio version I listened to was well done. Three and a half stars.

It is the story of a wealthy Shanghai family told by bit by bit through each characters point of view. It is also interesting that it is told in reverse chronological order from 2040 to 2014 which I found intriguing. In fact when I finished it I went back to the beginning and read the first chapter again. It was an entertaining and unique way to tell a family saga. The Yang family has been very successful, they want for nothing. Leo, a structural engineer has been very fortunate in real estate and his wife Eko also has a very successful embroidery business. They have three daughters Yumi, Yoko and Yokiko whom as the book progresses we learn more about them from their secrets from each another and their parents. This book is full of family secrets and many of them completely surprised me and some actually delighted me. I very mush enjoyed this novel. Highly recommended. 4 stars.
