But these are magical birds! Who knew ornithology could be a death defying occupation! These birds can stalk you and eat you, freeze you to death, and can attack humans.! Shades of Alfred Hitchcock.! But of course, love intervenes and messes everything up. Cute read....more

This Canadian detective is now part of the police in England and is posted to a place filled with migrating birds and the occasional murder. He is practically non verbal most of the time but always manages to ferret out who done it and why. And it all relates to birds! Actually I thought the first book had a better reason for the murder. Dominic Jejuene lives with a reporter but I doubt they even hold hands! Almost the definition of No sex please , we’re British ! Except he isn’t. Don’t know if I can take a third book....more

Not bad with witty dialogue and an interesting case of bodies found burned in a illegal Air Bnb. I know the coroner in D.C was overwhelmed with work but why she needed Brennen to perform the autopsies which turned out to be straight forward is a question. It isn’t like the corpses were going anywhere and only Brennen’s compulsive need to work has her missing her three day (only) holiday. Now the real mystery is the fifth body in the sub sub cellar! By coincidence I just finished another book with one of the Warring clan and the Foggy Bottom area. Awaking the next one. ...more

After the genetic test you could see where the plot was going . A couple of funny asides but not up to the authors’ standard fare of laugh out loud humour. I find that I care less and less about the trials and tribulations of twenty-somethings. Hopefully the authors will leave Disney behind in their next book....more

They are allGreat read about a group of eight women living in a not great boarding house in Washington during the McCarthy Communist witch hunt days. They are all strangers practically till Grace comes to live and starts group suppers on Thursdays and everyone eventually attends and bonds form. Even the spirit of the house joins. We learn of their backgrounds and their present day lives. A real kicker at the end, actually several, and that gave the book zing. It also contains recipes for the food each lady made on her turn Thursday. My only quibble was that in my experience cooking on a two burner hot plate would be torturous and extremely unlikely for 8+ people ( three pounds of meat for meatballs for 8!!!)...more

In this book we find out about the Proctor side of her family through her father’s line - people she didn’t even know existed, aunts uncles, cousins, descendants from those witches burned at the stake in Salem! Course some of them are ghosts just sitting around but that makes them interesting and opinionated. And she has gone to learn about their side of magic,- darkness , light and shadow. Her children and Matthew are there too and the children seem to love having witchy cousins. The Congregation rears it’s ugly head again and again and Satu makes an unwelcome appearance. Awaiting the next book....more

What a thriller though, almost non-stop action from the first chapters. Yeah, there was a little faffing about at the beginning to set the scene but then Pow, Wham into the cat-and-mouse game. Good thing his father-in-law’s voice is in his head or Mike would careen into disaster from an excess of chutzpah. He is one determined dude. I do wonder how the big dude tracked them when they were on vehicles for some of the time, but a small point. As a Canadian, I enjoyed the mention of our hard working border patrols and the RCMP. Great book!!...more

This from the woman who gave us the motorcycle Chaos romances where women were considered some man’s property or all mens’ plaything, or the stripper series , or the dominatrix trio (the Honey series) or the sassy police/private eye men and their women, or the unfinished hero series?? She either got religion, joined the ME TOO movement or burned her bra for women’s lib! So many almost perfect women in this series so far. And as for the sex — ho hum. It’s missing something that her earlier books had in spades. This one was a bit different in that it was told from the man’s point of view in regards to the murders and the romance. Don’t know if that works. And what’s with all the beige? Could she find a more boring colour for a woman who supposedly has it all together and is running a successful business.?...more

A book about the in-between period after the 1st WW where women have been doing the jobs but the men returning means the girls should be content to return to pre-war status of waiting around to marry or be a secretary, governess or drudge in some mansion. Guess what? Some women liked the freedom of working and just freedom. There is a women-run motorcycle taxi service in this seaside town and the story concentrates on the friendships and set backs of the women, some of whom must work cause they are widows or have others to support. The romance here is light and breezy but ends nicely ( ?HEA) . The book was a little slow to start but satisfying. The author acknowledged personal tragedy during the writing and the ending seemed a bit rushed . Will continue reading this author. ...more

The characters were very standard, the wunderkind IT expert; the strong silent ‘muscle’ who is good at breaking into places; the behaviouralist who sees patterns in peoples actions and can link them to prior cases, and also now an intuitive who feels what happened and an ex- FBI officer.
