If you can get over the weak reason why they both decide to be fake boyfriend/girlfriend, this is quite cute. As with most romances, there is always the miscommunications that cause angst, but this one didn't last too long.

I enjoyed it! It's a fairly simple tale that reads like a fairy tale told over many nights at bedtime (which is apparently how it started). I found the beginning a little slow and depressing because most of the good characters that gave you hope were either killed or put in prison. But I really liked it after the half way point and was satisfied with the conclusion. I will say I didn't connect to the characters as much as I normally do with JK Rowling, but this was also a stand alone children's book. I'm sure if I spent more time with Daisy and Bert, I would have grown to like them even more.

Honestly, I picked this up because I play D and D and love playing a bard and was excited to see a bard featured in a serious fantasy series, but I didn't really expect amazingness except in the sense of the ridiculousness of it. I was happily surprised that not only could these bards be serious fantasy characters but that I enjoyed this book so much. It is told from the viewpoint of three different characters, only two of which are bards, and I raced through listening to it. I couldn't quite give it 5 stars because I wasn't into Brocc's perspective as much as Liobhan and Dau, but I did care and cheer for all three and can't wait for the next book. Bards for the win!

I liked it but didn't love it until the end. As expected from Andy Weir, the plot depends on a lot of science explanation that goes over my head. I just don't care that much about how it works as long as it works for the plot. I also didn't really connect to Ryland Grace until the end. Anyways, I liked it and those who love a lot of science in their fiction would probably love this.

It's reminded me how much I absolutely love LOTR both the books and the films. I generally had the conception that I like the Aragorn, Legolas, Gimli storyline more than the Frodo, Sam storyline, but this time the part that truly got to me emotionally was with Frodo and Sam. This is the EPIC fantasy of all time.

I very much liked how this book is written like a conversation and that it doesn't feel like being white is a terrible thing, but as the title says, there are some uncomfortable discussion. It's more explaining how Blacks feel about certain things and why things are the way they are. I found it inciteful and helpful. I wish there was more to it because I have more questions. I think this book is a great starting point for those wanting to understand the Black perspective.

I enjoyed continuing the journey with these characters. I liked that when characters made stupid decisions, it didn't last long before they changed course. I still don't like what Kemmerer did with a character and Gray's actions confused me. He kept saying he wasn't going to go up against Rhen but then his actions were contradictory to that. Can't we all just sit down and have a discussion? Apparently not. Anyways, I thought it was still well written and look forward to finishing the series.
