i admired the determination of the main character to provide as good of a life for her daughter as possible and i liked the sibling relationships, but it is not a memorable book for me as i was not feeling anything about the romance aspect of the story (and it is essentially a romance book after all)...more

dnf at 78 pages. on paper this was supposed to be a new favorite but not really feeling it tbh. i recognize this book has important stories to tell and i really appreciate that there are three different upbringings and circumstances showcased, social issues and topics tackled etc. but the characters themselves are not gripping my attention. also, maybe it's the language barrier but there were also two incestuous jokes :-/ just.. why
anyhow, it did make me crave to continue 'this is us' where i left off in 2017 which im pretty excited about :-) give me some feels yes thank u...more
went into it knowing nothing so the beginning really shocked me and i thought it would be a totally different story than it ended up being wh3.5 stars
went into it knowing nothing so the beginning really shocked me and i thought it would be a totally different story than it ended up being which is not a bad thing at all but i didn't expect it to be *that* romance heavy? i would have liked to have seen more therapy sessions (e.g. why first time didn't work so well and why the second one did), even more talking about their emotions and thoughts about what happened etc because the last 15% felt a bit rushed
what i did like was the connection between the two main characters and the fact that they were both very layered and multidimensional; also, this type of bdsm is not really my cup of tea at all and some things were a bit out there for me (e.g. the eating out scenes) but i really loved how comfortable shep made claudia, how in tune he was with her emotions and reactions and always made sure to check she felt safe with him and he always took care of her and she in turn gave him a chance that others didn't
the "i love you" was underwhelming though as it was kinda instalove-y but i guess their connections and emotions were amplified by what happened to them in the first place
overall a good book, just some things were not my cup of tea per se and my expectations at the beginning of the story were not as romance heavy as this book turned out to be (again, not a bad thing, just that i expected something else); if you're looking for a steamy romance book though, i would totally recommend it...more

she portrays each character in such a poignant and authentic way that even when the characters do or say something that you don't agree with, you will most certainly understand why the character does it and how the character's socio-economical and racial background along with past experiences etc. have all influenced the character and their motivations
i was so immersed in the story and while the story unraveled slowly, piece by piece, i was not surprised that i was gripping the edge of my seat to find out how it all ends and how the first chapter would come into play at the end of it all
little fires everywhere is full of insightful discussions, nostalgia and passion, and one that i would highly recommend...more
