She got it for me after my diagnosis, and we struggled together, limping west. She also had health concerns, and it was like we were the only ones who understood each other as we travelled this journey. Now she's gone and I am left with this book. Finishing it feels like I am finished with her. Nevertheless, it is a valuable book, and has important perspective changes, even if the theology isn't 100% all the time....more

There were a lot of things that really stuck out, such as his explanation of the things you do at work to "pay the rent" vs the other half of what you do leaving the legacy. I didn't give it 5 stars because people always get a little weird about 1. finding God's will, when it isn't that c0mplicated, and 2. Make decisions based off of what they feel and call it the direction of God/God's will. Things always get turned into this mystical thing when we're talking about the future. It wasn't as bad here as in other books, and it was only on certain parts, but it was enough to dock it a little bit. Very helpful and insightful book, and I think for Sam Chand, Sam Chand did the right thing, and I think it was very helpful sharing that process, but this book has limited value to people who don't want to make a bold move but want to do the same thing in perpetuity. I also don't think some of the stuff applies to everyone, but still helpful....more

I think God speaks to people in suffering by a different measure and standard than those who aren't dealing with daily struggles. Definitely didn't agree with his biblical interpretation methods, there was a lot of eisogesis. But that doesn't mean that most of his points weren't useful. You can be off on a few supporting points and still get the main point correct, and I think that's exactly what happened here. The most of the last chapter felt unnecessary as is often the case in these Christian books like this, where it's like they are rambling, but given Bob's speaking problem I feel like it's excusable. The first half of the book was best, and this book had a lot to say. I went into it thinking I didn't have an envy problem, I finished it with the realization that I am more envious than most anyone else I know. Bob is really good at black and white abstract theories but often times fails to give concrete examples and so the people who don't process like him miss the point or the idea. His experience helps this problem, and he totally gets convinced of what he is saying and then uses scripture to back it up. Still, worth a read. Keeping it as a resource. ONE LAST NOTE: if I had to take a guess, I would assume Bob belongs to that "charistmatic" camp with the dangerous theology (no, not all charismatics are wack jobs with terrible beliefs). This is not quite to the extreme of John Eldredge or Bill Johnson, but probably around the same as John Bevere....more

Sometimes he took a little long to say something, but it's not like the book was 1,000 pages long or anything. Been a big fan of Project 86 for a while, and Andrew has always been super down to earth. A lot of wisdom in this. Worth the read for sure....more
