I loved Mia McKenzie's first book so much; this one is sharper and messier and funnier and doesn't pull its punches. I didn't give a warm happy book sigh at the end I guess, but it grabbed me immediately and churned around in my gut until I was done. Not for every reader but exceptional....more

Nay / uhhhhhh: -the will-they-won't-they miscommunication was just too long and belabored. Not super believable for me as stakes in the way. -the light/funny tone was a weird mismatch with the pretty intense abuse storyline. -the banter and pace was a little bit much sometimes, if not quite as Gilmore Girls-meets-Pulp Fiction as the later Shelly Laurenston badger series (loved the first, couldn't get through the others).

I laughed out loud a bunch of times while reading it, totally loved the urban fantasy-ish setting, all the sweet aging punks taking care of each other, lovely found family and inherited family. Just a really solidly sweet, fun read. I will 100% read anything else she writes in this universe and be v v v excited when it appears!...more
