Not much SEAL stuff in this one, lots and lots and lots and lots of dialogue and touchy feely mush. She left in the sharp language that Dan and Izzy are known for, but she took too much of their other good qualities out to make them insecure and nauseating to listen to. I miss the rough guys who fall in love, but don’t discuss their feelings with each other. Maybe I’m exaggerating a bit, but I was extremely disappointed in this book, I requested it at the library before it was released and waited impatiently to read it and for what?
Maybe it is a good idea she closes out this series, because it is going downhill fast. If you enjoyed the rest of the Troubleshooters series, and I recommend it to anyone reading military romance, thriller, suspense filled books, then you may want to read this to keep up with the happenings in the characters lives.
I not sure what I hoped to get from this book, but I didn’t get anything more than a few wasted days reading, but maybe my tastes have changed. I just didn't like some of the way the characters reacted, it seemed out of character for them. Some of the story was heartbreaking and yet you could see how characters from other books were coming to help. Brockmann does a great job of bringing characters back from other books. I will miss this series, but even if she writes more I may be finished after reading this one. I would have reviewed it earlier, but I just kept pushing its scheduled date back for other books.

This is a fast paced book with great pacing, short chapters and memorable characters. Riley is an investigative reporter who is bold and resourceful. Her parents are great, I find myself laughing at their parts in her stories, and I can identify them with other people I know from this area. Her parents are protective and even a bit underhanded at time. I love the fact that she writes about Minnesota and Minnesota nice, even when mixed with murder and Iowa at times.
The mystery and murder keep you on your toes wondering whodunit. The small on-going plot weaved into her stories continues, even if it didn’t end the way I would have liked it to (actually I doubt if it is over and look forward to more in the next book.) Riley’s co-workers are unique individuals that have endearing and not so endearing qualities about them. Her characters feel real and as I read the book I could place many of my friends and acquaintances in their places making the book come to life and more interesting.
If you have never read Julie Kramer then start now, you will not be disappointed. Her mysteries are interesting and she uses real places in her stories, place you can visit if you feel so inclined to do. I have to say that I wish she wrote them faster, but then I wouldn’t want the quality to drop in the haste. This book is number 4 in the series and it will not disappoint. Go pick it up today.
But, I'm stopping in Iowa City my next trip to the in-laws to check out the Black Angel and the lore surrounding her. Very Spooky Stuff!...more

I downloaded it onto the Kindle and thought as I was getting ready for bed just to have a quick peek at it. Well I didn’t put it down for some time, I kept waiting for a boring bit and finally I had to put it down and go to sleep. I picked it up the next day and read until my dental appointment and then finished it at home an hour or so later. I really enjoyed the suspense and the second guessing myself about what was really happening. Was it her…was it him…nono it was definitely him…no maybe not…
Stalkers and those stalking the stalker and then psychologists to boot, this book is very much a psycho thriller. Who did it and why? Why are some of us born without the ability to feel what others feel? What happens when we cannot get a song or person out of our thoughts? Think about it… do you cyber stalk anyone…or have you…or have you thought about doing it?
This is intense and fast paced. I read and thought and read and guessed and yet was surprised at who it was and why. The characters are endearing and spooky at the same time. Ambition is a good thing as long as it doesn’t lead to obsession. This is a good book that I would suggest it to any reader out there.

The characters were interesting and kept my interest, the bad guy was truly bad. The ending of the super bad guy was fulfilling, he needed to go.
With the threat of a super virus that can kill millions, I liked the way the book made immortality a virus instead of a disease and yet was it the best for the people of earth. I think most readers would enjoy this book and find the concept interesting and fun to read. The characters make the story come to life.

I enjoy Nora Roberts and this one was good I liked it. I want to try static line jumping this summer and this book motivated me to want to even more. I jumped tandem last summer and now want to do it myself. I love the story, but found it a bit long in bits. Maybe two books would have been better for more details in some places and less in others. The killer was a surprise but I felt a bit cheated, I know who it was because of lack of anyone else. I didn't really believe the killer motivation.

A Christian based mystery/thriller with a small amount of romance thrown in for good measure. How could I pick anything else?
I liked this book, it kept my interest but took a bit to really get started. Meeting the characters and getting a feeling for them seemed to take a bit of time. When I got to know them better I cared what happened to them and I tried to figure out who was causing all the problems. I didn’t come up with the answer much before the characters did themselves.
It is a good mystery and I loved the romance that wove though the relationships. Sad yet true the way the family relationships gave so much pain to the members. It always seems that our mistakes should only punish us, but they punish so many more while we process through our redemption.

I could visualize the depressing world the Earth had become, lack of resources and greed had taken over. The book progressed well and my only complaint was that it seemed to drag, just a bit, in the middle. But, I wanted to know what was going to happen so I trudged through. It kept me interested and reading with a kick butt detective and her search for why the world had gone to hell in a hand basket.
This book is set in the future where no one dies of old age anymore. Everyone looks about 25 and only die from accidents and viruses that are still around. The problem is the overpopulation this has caused. People fill the street starving and homeless. The rich and wealthy have everything they need and the rest of society is trying to catch a bone, the middle class is virtually nonexistent.
The author paints a dark world that I would not want to live in or raise children in. Hunger, poverty and homelessness abound in her world. She let us see what a shame immortality could be if everyone had it. A dead body, found on the street, was fair game to anyone who came across it, hungry children and desperate adults rule this world. The future was bleak and that led this detective to her next job, the one that could be her last.
This book is imaginative and quick to read. If you enjoy urban futuristic stories you will enjoy this. The author even mixed in a tiny bit of romance that always makes life worth living and books worth reading. I hope the future is better than this. ...more

Review: I really enjoyed this book. Wow, it grabbed me right from the start and just kept hold. It is a few books along in a series(4th) but I had no problem catching up to what was going on and the relationships between the characters.
The detective is recovering from a brutal beating and hostage situation from one of the previous books, the reporter is struggling with her feelings for him and with the book she is writing. She's also quite quirky and many on the police force and her own colleagues find her a bit over the top and pushy. I found her funny and a bit scary (eating the Jolly Ranch from the table, really?) The other characters add a level of believability, but still are secondary to the ongoing story. Even the long time detective friends and partners are just part of the scenery in this story.
This story moved fast, just like the flooding river. It started in 1949 and then ended in the present. I enjoyed the way the past introduced the problems in the future and the guilt of those who knew the truth. I’ve been to Portland several times and this was a fun reminder of the area. Of course I have only been there when it isn’t flooding and icy cold (just in the sunny summer).
The book was dark with the theme and with the rain soaked streets and people. The murder weapon was unique and different. It really kept my attention and I didn’t put it down. I would suggest this and her other titles to anyone who loves a good police procedural murder mystery. ...more

I would have given it a 5 star if the end of one character hadn't been so fast, he was a difficult person and then his demise was swift and why do the bad guys always feel the need to tell how they did everything and then end it? I did like that the real bad guy was extremely nasty, he made for someone you could really hate. My blood pumped harder at the end with not knowing who was going to come up on top. This story was exciting and scary as the author took the reader to many seedy places, and holes in Boston I would not want to venture into on purpose. Great descriptions of the area and having been to Boston recently I could really visualize the landscape.
Why are people the way they are and why are some of us so bad? Rich, poor, needy and scared, we all have more in common then we think and I like the way the author made everyone human in some way. To be super rich sounds great but then again a new set of problems emerges and so maybe not.
I like Nick and think he makes a great character for more books, Dorthy is also likable and unusual. This is a thriller with just a bit of romance added in the mix. Great story and I look forward to the next Nick Hiller story. I would suggest this to anyone who enjoys mystery/thrillers. Check out this book and his first in the series. ...more
