I plan on using these as directed drawings in the elementary classrooms where I teach. For adults who enjoy whimsy and kawaii cuteness, the wide variety of objects and creatures will inspire creativity. Basic information on color, patterns, materials, and expressions are included in the introduction, but the majority of the book is full of fun things to draw! From ordinary objects around the house, to food, to animals, to imaginary creatures, the artist makes anything "super cute!"

This book was a wonderful review and would be perfect for beginners as well. The information is presented well, with plenty of visual examples. There is such a wide variety of poses- both stationary and dynamic, with a range of age, gender, and ethnicity. The focus is on technical methods and techniques used, and unlike other art books I've recently read, it does not address the why, or the purpose, of this type of art-making. I did appreciate the advice on the last page about creativity- to sketch everyday, to practice sketching from the work of Old Masters and other artists, and speed sketching from life. This book has made me excited to start drawing again, and provided ideas, exercises, and tools that I can use as I begin to practice.

Famous buildings and cityscapes are featured as well as the obscure, and of course landscapes in nature with the sky looming above full of stars, comets, meteors, the moon, and/or planets. It's a book to savor, with brief explanations of the location and identifying astronomical sights. The chapters divide the images into categories, and I added quite a few destinations to my bucket list. The quality of the hardcover book is excellent with a matte cover and pages, embossed title, and would make a wonderful gift.

The artist's approach in the Body and Mind section at the beginning was a bit negative, and didn't bring a great vibe for the rest of the book. The technical information was helpful and accurate to what I had learned in my college ceramics classes many years ago. I appreciated the refresher and this part will be the most helpful to beginners. I found the artist's style rough and ready, and her examples and tutorials didn't inspire me with my own ideas. I liked that there are some pages with creations from other artists, and the variety helped showcase a wider range of styles.

CreatiI appreciated the author's kind and insightful words in the beginning of her book about mindfulness versus a "corrective emotional experience." Creating and tapping into the artistic side of our brain can be a therapeutic exercise, but doesn't necessarily make it a mindfulness technique. The author prefers seeing it as "an experience that allows you to see yourself or a situation in a new, more emotionally fulfilling or productive way." Her reminders to be kind to yourself, learn from choices and imperfections, allow yourself to not finish a project, and work with what is available to you, allow the crafter to create without pressure or comparison. I appreciated the supply list was divided into two parts- must-haves, and optional extras. a couple of the extras I had not known about and am looking forward to trying out. The explanation and instruction for the different types of stitches are easy to understand, with clear photographs assisting. The projects are whimsical and fun, with florals, fruit, and plants in three different skill levels. They include all the patterns in the back of the book, and they are simple enough to finish in a relatively short amount of time, perfect for practicing the various stitches! A wonderful book for beginners that fosters enthusiasm and encouragement.

These projects are perfect mini-science lessons with hands-on creativity. I loved the wide variety of concepts, materials, and techniques. It would be easy to add on some science and art history to give a deeper understanding. Most of these projects seem like they would be best for small groups or individual families, especially the ones that require special or unique supplies. I plan on doing the Neuron Blow Paintings with my third grade class of 26 students and can't wait to see the colors and patterns they make! There are only a couple ideas that I would consider games though, most of them are projects or activities.

I loved the variety of themes, layouts, and styles presented. Creating a supplies kit so your journal can be built along the way is vital, and I appreciated the list of things to include. The tutorials were easy to understand with photographs and instructions. I gathered plenty of ideas for the future and look forward to starting my first travel journal soon!

The illustrations are simple yet fill each page with beauty and the joy of the season. The information is basic, yet includes facts and details that many adults may not know. I enjoyed the learning and the fun ideas that are perfect to do alongside children. From plants and produce to animals and insects, many aspects of the winter season in nature is explored. Like the others I would have liked more content, and I hope that the publisher will release all four books combined together in a collection!
