Not quite long enough for a full movie, but resolved in about an hour ;) It's no wonder I liked it since two of my favorite shows are The Mentalist and Burn Notice. The element that made this book different is the theme of faith as Lucy and Jordan work together to solve the mystery. The reason Lucy trusts Jordan is that he was the best friend and coworker of her fiance who was killed in an explosion. Jordan struggles with survivor's guilt, especially when he develops deeper feelings for Lucy. There is romantic tension and plenty of suspense to keep the pace of the book moving forward to the climax and resolution.

Watching shows like Deadliest Catch with my husband give me an idea of the dangers of crab fishing, and the author explores that lifestyle with Mia and Gus. As a nurse Mia is a natural caretaker, and falls into that role with Gus during his recovery despite her inner warnings to avoid another fisherman- even her fiancée's closest friend. There is a definite struggle as they fall for each other- both aware of the difficulties which prevent them from holding on to hope for a future together. Learning to rely on faith is a big theme and I loved that Gus embraced his belief and allowed it to give him strength in his career and as a father. I had a hard time relating to Mia's tense personality, but she grew on me towards the end as she finally allowed herself to accept happiness.

Chloe was extremely hurt when Aiden didn't keep in touch after a summer kiss as youth, but as the story progresses we learn about Aiden's unfortunate family circumstances which makes it easier for her to find closure and forgive him. Their attraction is still there, however they are both in transitional phases of life which keeps them holding back. It was difficult to see how they could make a future work without Chloe giving up her dream of teaching, but the magic of the holidays and the love of a sweet baby helped them overcome their challenges and find a way forward together.
