Nicholas thinks he just wants someone to fill the social role of a duchess, but his inadvertent meeting of an eavesdropping Mercy in a hallway awakened his senses and desire for more. Mercy has always wanted a passionate marriage like her sister's, but unexplained pressure from her parents present the conflict of compromising her dreams to please her family and society. The author's use of the game of chess reflects the back and forth between Nicholas and Mercy- presenting their polite side for society but hiding more romantic wishes. I found the struggle of Nicholas to be more genuine as he learned to embrace rather than suppress his emotions. Mercy was definitely more calculated as she and her friend enact plans to trick and mislead Nicholas. With time and experience she realizes that passion can have its downfalls when unsupported by a strong foundation, and is almost too late when she finally sees behind the facade of Nicholas. A sweet romance with complicated dynamics that take our main characters on an emotional journey.

I appreciated how she worked through them with prayer and thoughtfulness, and growing through her sacrifices. God directing our paths is a major theme of this book. The introduction to Kasie involved a bit of an info dump which read like a narrative conversation. Once Andrew reappears in her life, the story takes off with the tumultuous feelings he brings out in her. He's pretty adorable, and I loved their vibe together, even when Kasie is unsure of their future. The author does an excellent job of portraying military life and this specific flight training phase, what the pilot and family both go through. As someone who has lived that life herself, I didn't doubt that any of the details she included were authentic. The pace of the book is slow but steady as Kasie assimilates to life on base caring for her toddler nephew, and develops a support system while also supporting others. Her dreams of theater production seem to be on hold, but she finds ways to share her talents and bring joy to those around her, opening up opportunities as well. My favorite part of the story is her relationship with Andrew and how they take it slow, but with purpose and intent, always seeking the Lord's will for them and finding peace with the reassurance of answered prayers.

I admired Russell's determination and purpose in making a difference, yet floundering as to how to accomplish his goals. He and Selina both have valuable friends that guide them and provide support in a society that can be a harsh judge. There are elements of mystery, layered throughout the story building to reveal more than what meets the eye. Plenty of historical details as well for those who are intrigued by how different life was back then and how improvements were made.

The concepts are also presented This medium-sized board book is absolutely lovely. The illustrations are simple and beautiful, appealing to all ages. The concepts are also presented in a way that is easy to understand, yet profound in their meaning. This is the first children's book to include Heavenly Mother in its teachings, and it is done so respectfully. Each page's topic has a sentence that is basic for younger readers, and also a more in-depth explanation for middle readers. Heavenly Parents is the first book in the Little Latter-day Saint Library series, and all books follow the Church's Doctrinal Topics in Come Follow Me material and Seminary & Institute. This is a wonderful teaching tool to use with children and would make a perfect gift!

Grace and Noah begin on a disastrous blind double date, and then meet years later for tutoring sessions- but she doesn't remember him. Even though Noah takes grump to the next level, they are attracted to each other and form a slight friendship... which Noah burns to the ground. It was interesting how much of the book is spent with them not together, but showing them go through their own separate lives, which then randomly intersect. Serving on a mission trip in Mexico gives them a second chance, but outside forces intervene. More life happens, and then a third chance is sought by Noah, when it's almost too late. I wasn't feeling fully connected to the characters, but I appreciated that the author sensitively handled themes of grief, mental health, judging, and forgiveness. The difficulties in their early interactions made the reconciliation that much sweeter in the end, and both Grace and Noah go through so much character growth.

I loved how the author challenges our first impressions of Chiara by peeling back her layers, revealing the vulnerable young woman behind the facade she has learned to use. Abraham is instrumental in provoking Chiara and making her see past the games of society. I enjoyed her sense of humor, and how she did her own provoking to get Abraham out of his reserved and often grumpy shell. They are both at an important crossroads in their lives, with the pressures of career and marriage. They seem like an unlikely couple, but their opposite natures compliment each other and their chemistry is palpable. The pace felt unhurried, which allowed me to enjoy the nuances of all the characters and the situations they find themselves in. Recommend to fans of sweet Regency romance!

I enjoyed the early history of color blindness and how Henry didn't let that prevent him from pursuing his career. He and Emily bond over his work with plants and creatures- one local variety of flower in particular. Her understated intelligence and genuine interest in learning about a variety of subjects attract him from the beginning. There isn't conflict in their slowly developing relationship; the drama is brought from outside influences- other suitors, politics at the museum, and a surprisingly dangerous turn of events. A wonderful addition to the Georgian Gentlemen series!
