MY THOUGHTS⇣
The narrator, Katherine Littrell has the perfect accent to set the atmosphere for this story flawlessly. But sometimes the twang she had going on was a little difficult for this Yankee to understand.
The blurb is spot on when it calls this twisty, soapy and gasp-inducing. While I found this to be totally entertaining I also found the many characters...all the who's momma is who's and baby daddy drama difficult to keep track of. I really liked book one, Little White Lies, but even with that book, I found the characters difficult to keep track of. Although, with all that drama and those draw-dropping twists...this could make for an excellent TV show. Maybe, if I had listened to these books closer together I could have kept track of it all. If you do decide to give this duo a try...it might be best if you keep a flow-chart on everyone, like, family tree style...but you should definitely use a pencil.

What an endearing and odd little story. It blazed a path straight to my heart. Short and sweet with no unnecessary filler. With quirky but lovable characters and a sometimes humorous, but completely original storyline. Who knew that a story about kids who literally catch on fire could be all this and more. Deep down, at its core, it portrays one universal truth...that everyone needs to be loved by someone.
Marin Ireland was absolutely perfect for the voice of Lillian, and her voices for others within the story were also perfectly executed.

MY THOUGHTS⇢
What you will get when you read/listen to this book...
⇢The writing within this book is not only brilliant but seriously audacious and scintillating in an eww, gross kind of way that will leave you squeamishly uncomfortable. Flynn doesn't shy away from...well...anything. It seems nothing is off-limits.
⇢Wind Gap is one darkly twisted town...with pre-teens running amok...having sex, doing ecstasy and drinking.
⇢The characters are all rather unlikable, including the MC...when you find out what she went through as a kid though...it feels like she is justifiably fucked up.
⇢The whodunit is rather easy to figure out and I believe it purposely so. The real mystery is how twisted the truth really is...and it really is, way beyond twisted.
What you take from this book is entirely up to you and how much darkness you can take...me, I'm conflicted, I can do dark and twisted...but maybe this was a little too much of 'all of the above' for me.
The Audio is superbly executed by Ann Marie Lee...her voices, her inflections are spot on. It had to have been weird for her that one of the girls killed has the same given name as her.

๏ My Thoughts ๏
I wasn't going to read/listen to this, at least not until Audible offered it for free around Christmas. Since I've already seen the movie (but found myself not remembering too much about it) I didn't really know if I wanted to even listen to this...but a reading challenge (Snakes & Ladders) gave me the push to finally do so. It's wasn't too difficult to get into this, despite the numerous football references and shenanigans, I still liked the story overall. I've never really gotten into reading any classic literature and the varied references to them in this were insightful and helped to reassure me that I probably not missing out.

๏ My Thoughts ๏
The narration by Katherine Littrell was fantastic...she did a perfect southern debutante accent. She's also mastered the art of inflecting her voice with a different cadence for inner dialogue. This is something of which many narrators need to improve on. I might not have liked this as much as I did if it not for the narration, I've could have gotten bored with some of the slower sections of the story...I'll never know for sure?
While the mysteries within are not as complex or as sinister as JLB's Naturals Series, I still found them to be adequate. For the gentrified Southern Setting the mysteries fit quite perfectly. I found the characters refreshing, and I loved that they weren't all super-catty, to the point of being nasty...I think I thought they would be. Overall, I was pleasantly surprised by this story. One thing I didn't know...this has a second book.
