Seamus Heaney's modern reworking of Sophocles' Antigonie is beautifully done. It makes the text accessible and poignant and shows off his skill at language - the sunlight adazzle on the gulf, birds skirling overhead - classic Heaney choosing evocative words with such care.

As well as the rich language this also highlights the contemporary themes making this timeless - the fallibility and arrogance of government, man vs. woman, man vs. the state, the state vs. the gods. Mortal morality vs. something higher...

Classics fans are not going to want to miss this.
