Wuthering Heights

I have spent the last year reading all those 'Great Books' that probably would have been required reading if I had gone to a different high school or took more lit classes in college. Most of them were revelations. Like why hadn't I read these sooner. This one had sparks of that, mostly in the beginning with the introduction of Heathcliff and just this whole concept (which even for present day is rare; so 1800's...totally unheard of) that all the protagonists can be these awful, unlikable, deeply flawed people. I love that. Catherine IS Heathcliff. I AM Heathcliff. and trust me, y'all can be real Heathcliffs too sometimes.
But overall, I wouldn't recommend reading this one to people looking to catch up on the classics. Go hop on the Jane Eyre train for sure. and don't be hasty. But this one was dark and jarring and made me deeply interested in the life of the ill-fated Bronte sisters. In Emily Bronte's world, even more than her sisters', true love is the worst torture, everyone is a bit of a sociopath, and nobody lives to see 40.
