This graphic novel is FANTASTIC.

It took me a little while to get into it, but WOW. There's humor, so it's a fun, quick read, but there's also so many serious themes that need to be read about and discussed. This book explores diversity, and the lack thereof in some area, and how that impacts everyone. It talks about how some people can have unconscious prejudices and racism, even if they aren't hateful. The coolest thing is that includes both sides of the struggle, both for black and white people.

There's so many powerful moment, even though this is for kids, and it's actually a really emotional read. It 100% deserves the Newberry medal it won.
