it was amazing
bookshelves: 3rd-or-4th-grade-and-up, fantasy, favorite-authors

Deservedly Waterstone's Book of the Year, an old fashioned fantasy adventure where two intrepid teens must try to stop the mysterious environmental collapse of a mythological realm where manticores, unicorns and sphinxes abound. Did I mention one has a baby griffin and a flying overcoat? Is, as the book opens, pursued by a murderer? Into our world where the other's grandfather guards a magic portal? Heroics, peril, smart talk and life & death stakes throughout, (plus a wonderful tiny dragon called Jacques). Michael Morpurgo, Phillip Pullman and Neil Gaiman all blurb. Highly recommended.
