it was amazing

A truly gripping fantasy story that digs into you and won't let go without remorse!

There is so much to unpack in this story full of magic, adventure, heartbreak, triumph, terror, and glory. The worldbuilding was a massive undertaking and Callie Hart did it with razor sharp precision. She created a world you can get lost in and not want to leave ever.

Saeris Fane just wants to keep her brother Hayden safe and have enough to survive the trenches of the 3rd ward in Silvaren, where the desert and heat will shrivel you up without a moment's thought. It's riddled with plague and death is but a breath away. Saeris has learned to survive and keep herself and her brother safe until one day everything changes. When a split second decision uproots her from her world and hurls her through a gate to the world of Yvelia, she finds way more than she bargained for, including a handsome fae warrior named Kingfisher who is bent on saving his realm against dark forces. He'll do anything to win, including using Saeris to prevail against all odds.

I loved this story. It has everything you want in a fantasy romance adventure. The characters were well fleshed out and fun to get to know. The banter is amusing between them and so fun to follow along. The magic and worldbuilding was well thought out and I loved the variety of things happening. There was a lot going on for just one book. In fact, I think this would've been nice as two books for there really is tons happening and sometimes it can get overwhelming to follow along. But, it's oh so worth it. The romance is steamy hot and I wouldn't have minded seeing more of it between the other characters as well. The stakes are impossibly high for the characters and it left me gripping my seat in hopes they all make it through their trials and tribulations. In the end, I couldn't wait for more. I really hope there will be more books in this series, it's a harrowing ride that is worth every single page read.

Highly recommend anything by Callie Hart. She shines with her sweeping prose and detailed worlds. You won't be sorry.

I received an ARC of this book from the author for an unbiased review.
