really liked it
bookshelves: 1-2015-releases, 2-adult, 3-poetry, bipoc-author, bipoc-mc, black-author, black-mc

I don't read a lot of poetry, but when I'm in the right mood, I love this style of poetry: short, accessible poems, aiming to be healing and empowering. I especially loved the section about mental health, and those poems resonated the most with me. That's also because, as a white reader, I'm not the target audience for this collection, and this topic is the one I could relate to the most. I definitely did appreciate the other poems as well, and I think if you're a Black woman reading them, they will be really empowering.

This collection reminded me of Black Girl You Are Atlas by Renée Watson, which I would say is sort of a YA version of this. Both hold so much love for Black women, and they're aimed at self love and self acceptance in a world that doesn't always love you.
