really liked it

Money features one of the most lovable dingbats I’ve yet encountered in literature, a buoyantly ridiculous, somehow charmingly silly scumbag of an antihero. When you add to that the book’s pervasively outlandish, exuberant energy, its wealth of genuinely hilarious black humor (I must have belly-laughed/giggled/snorted uncontrollably at least 20 times), and its wildly inventive word choices, which are flung at the reader with a blatantly waggish, manic enthusiasm, this thing is truly a fun, entertaining read. Even though it gets a little too cute from time to time, too smirkingly clever (and even obnoxiously pleased with itself), it is still without a doubt the most amusing book I’ve had the pleasure of reading in quite some time. If you ever find yourself in the mood for a twisted, sharp, uproarious commentary on the cult of money, this is definitely the book for you.

Ilse Belly-laughing, how wonderful to hear that, Tara - did you read the book in public :-)? At the moment I cannot see very well what can be so funny about money, but I am eager to find out as I thought the update you posted hilarious :-).

Thank you, Ilse! I didn’t end up reading any of it in public, which was fortunate, as I probably would have stifled some of my laughter around others. I’m glad to hear you enjoyed that update too :D As for the humor with respect to money, I suppose it was primarily due to the absurdity to be found in such excess and such an extremely superficial lifestyle. I hope it is to your liking, but feel I ought to warn you that some of it is rather dark humor. Many thanks for reading, and wishing you a pleasant weekend :)

Junta I thought I had a book shelved by Amis, but that turned out to be Martin's father, Kingsley. Sounds like a surprisingly fun book, have added!

I’ve yet to read any Kingsley Amis, but have been meaning to start with either The Old Devils or Lucky Jim, which I notice you also want to read. We’ll have to see who gets to it first ;) And I hope you enjoy this one as much as I did! Definitely an outrageous, entertaining adventure :D

Hanneke Great review, Tara! Read 'Money' a long time ago, but remember really liking it. As I did a few others of Amis.

Thank you, Hanneke! I notice that you rated The Zone of Interest 5 stars—I’ll have to check that out in the future.

Hanneke 'London Fields' was quite similar to 'Money', extremely witty as well. 'Zone of Interest' was quite unsimilar though. I thought it was really good, but very sad, and in that way quite different from the other Amis books.

Thanks for the information, much appreciated. It sounds like both will be worth looking into, for different reasons.
