‼️ WARNING: if you're not a fan of toxic characters/romances, OTT drama, high school petty bs, bitchy exes, asshole fathers you just wanna punch, possessiveness and jealousy, i wouldn't recommend this book ‼️

so ngl, i was mainly rolling my eyes during the first half bc i just wanted to shake Copeland and he annoyed me every time he was being an asshole to Penn, but gotta love it when a character you hated (or disliked) in the beginning somehow changes your thoughts about him to a complete 180 by the second half. 🤪 i genuinely didn't think i would root for these two by the end cause i thought Penn deserved better but don't mind me secretly rooting for them in the second half, despite how toxic their relationship started off. i think what i loved most about their relationship was, the moment they finally became bfs, even though they (still) had many obstacles in their way, they stood strong together. until the end. i thought some unnecessary break up was about to happen, but i was satisfied when they stuck through whatever came their way. Copeland grew on me by the end, but my favorite was definitely Penn. must protect him. 🥺

the way their relationship went from this:

He smirks as he backs away. "Nah, I've got a girlfriend. Nice try, though. If you tried half as hard on that paper as you do attempting to get into my pants, you'd probably ace it."

TO THIS:

"It's not weird," I say sharply, cutting him off. "At least it doesn't feel weird. Out there at the shed, I kept waiting for the disgust to wash over me, but it didn't. I've never wanted to be with someone so badly in my life. Now that I've come to that decision in my head, it doesn't feel anything but right."

(it's satisfying that both dialogues were from Copeland. i loved his growth.)

description

YES, I GET EASILY SWAYED OKAY. 😭😭 i was also eating up the possessiveness and jealousy from Copeland in the second half bc he pissed me off during the first half, the way he kept taunting Penn. HELP-

oh, and to close things off

Marci awesome review!!💗 this sounds exactly like something i would enjoy hehe🤭

sanju (on and off) Really cool review! Their fathers were the worst. I honestly loved the way they developed feelings for each other. I’m happy you liked this book:)

D.L. Howe I’m glad you enjoyed this one. I love toxic but I loved it even better when they finally came together. Great review!

Llakshmi I love this book. The toxicity and the friends-enemies-friends-lovers is something I want to read more off. AND THE JEALOUSY! The amount of smirks. Ugh help😭😭

tysm! i agree, i honestly just wanted to punch both fathers lol and yess omg, the second half alone was 5-star worthy when we were able to see their relationship blossom further and i loved how they stayed together—despite the obstacles in their way. 🥺

thank you! looking forward to your thoughts on this! 👀

thank you! same, although i love reading about toxicity, the second half was my fav part just seeing their relationship blossom and i thought it held so much meaning, considering they didn't start off well in the first half.

thank you, Llakshmi! YES, i agree with everything and omfg, i'd love to read more of that trope too, the tension is chefs kiss. 😌

len ❀ i’m honestly glad to hear this didn’t have the unnecessary break up scene and instead showed how they stuck together. it shows their development but also their loyalty. glad you enjoyed it, charee! 🖤

thank you, elena! 🤍 the first half was so angst-filled and push and pull that i was kinda scared it would have the typical formula of an unnecessary break up as the third act conflict so i was so happy when that wasn't the case at all. 😭 aside from the romance, their development and loyalty towards each other is definitely a significant aspect on why i gave this such a high rating, haha. the first half just annoyed me so i couldn't give it a full 5. 🤣

yes it's always nice to see a different route be taken!! especially when it deals with characters who have sudden shifts in their lives that you don't expect, like copeland. and please this is basically 5 stars. 😂

girl i better see you reading this 😤 if you end up liking untouchable by sam mariano, you might like this. they don't have the same premise, but they gave me similar vibes where i was pissed in the beginning but, slowly later on, ended up rooting for the MCs anyways in the second half lmao.

Candy M. Ok but I'm conflicted... because I'm a petty and vindictive bitch myself 🤣 so if a character pisses me off and doesn't grovel properly, then it's straight into the garbage can for me. So the way you described Copeland is making me doubt whether I'll enjoy it. With that being said... the jealousy, posessivenes and unhealthy aspect? I swoon 😍 Fantastic review, by the way, Moon!

julia Love that you loved these two, that said, ugh this story grated on my nerves. I think the issue for me was how QUICKLY their relationship went from "hate-to-love." Also, I was not expecting the OTT levels of drama.

BUT, I am glad that you loved this one. And even I have to admit this quote — "It's not weird," I say sharply, cutting him off. "At least it doesn't feel weird. Out there at the shed, I kept waiting for the disgust to wash over me, but it didn't. I've never wanted to be with someone so badly in my life. Now that I've come to that decision in my head, it doesn't feel anything but right." — is super duper sweet!! 😍😍

oof- if you're looking for grovel, i wouldn't recommend this book 😅 normally, i'd want to see grovel if one of the characters was shitty to the other but, bc it's rare to see an actual, good grovel in romance books, i've just learned to live with it LOL + i can probably let it go if i still loved the romance between the MCs (which was the case for me here). they kinda just went from being enemies to lovers on a whim. but, honestly, i think seeing Copeland's jealousy and possessiveness in the second half did make up the lack of grovel for me bc he deserved to be jealous after what he put Penn through in the past. 😤

thank you, candy! 🤍

ooh yeah, you have a point. it did switch pretty quick rather than seeing an actual development (+ no grovel from Copeland after what he put Penn through? smh, the waste of potential 😭) but, at the same time, i think i just wanted to see my bb Penn finally happy bc i was annoyed with the way Cope kept taunting him and using the "im not gay" excuse even tho he clearly wants to do physical things with him. 😒 oh and the way Cope was so possessive of Penn in the second half?? chefs kiss. loved that sm!

i think im immune to the OTT dramas from this author bc i've read a few other books by her at this point, which had similar types of drama lmaoo. YES, tbh i expected an unnecessary break up during the third act conflict like most hs romances seem to have so the fact that they stayed together through it all had me shook yet satisfied.
