Kristie | 5827 comments What books did you love that you would like to recommend to others? These can be old favorites or books you just read recently and want to share.

Please do NOT suggest your own book. This is not for self-promotion, but to recommend books that you have enjoyed and want to share with others for them to enjoy.

Mitsy (mitsyc) | 41 comments Well, I just finished Naughty Girl: A true story of child abuse and an eating disorder by Holly Alastra. I strongly recommend this memoir to anyone who has been abused, has had an eating disorder, or knows someone who has had either. I've never been abused or suffered from an eating disorder, so reading this was an eye opening experience. I learned a lot. I recommend Naughty Girl: A true story of child abuse and an eating disorder to anyone who wants to learn about these issues.

Karen ⊰✿ | 3589 comments Thanks Mitsy. As you enjoyed that book I would also recommend to you Unbearable Lightness A Story of Loss and Gain by Portia de Rossi which was a very emotive and honest memoir. The audio is narrated by the author too and just adds to the book

message 4: by Mitsy (new)

Mitsy (mitsyc) | 41 comments Thank you, Karen! I'd like to read the book. I forgot all about it, so thanks for the reminder. :)

message 5: by Karen ⊰✿, Avaricious Reader (new)

Karen ⊰✿ | 3589 comments You're welcome :)
The book is incredibly honest and brutal, it feels very personal and is at times quite upsetting, even sickening, to imagine someone living this way. So be emotionally ready for it before you start! :o

Okay. I just finished a memoir like that, so I'm going to wait a bit before reading Unbearable Lightness: A Story of Loss and Gain.

Thanks for letting me know.

Lorina Lynne | 3 comments I've become a huge fan if the Dom Wars series by Lucian Bane. It's very creatively and uniquely written. Beautiful (as well as hot and steamy) love scenes with an inspirational message and love story.

message 12: by Brodie (new)

Brodie James | 1 comments Wow, i just finished reading the most amazing novel,The Commons: Book one: Journeyman written by Micheal Alan Peck. I was given this book in exchange for an honest review. I will be brutally honest, I loved it. Micheal is a true artist going from penning a column for TVGuide.com and writing restaurant reviews it amazes me how naturally he writes fantasy. The characters were so alive I could feel them with me every step of the way.You would never know is's his first novel it flows so perfectly.

Paul Reid is a tough 17 year old having spent most of his life in foster homes or on the street, he finds himself living at new beginnings group home. Even though he has grown to love Mike Hibbets also known as Papa Mike who runs the group home. A man who taught Paul "There's no god to lift us up - we rise or fall together". He finds himself leaving to find a place in the world. Paul buys a one way ticket to San Francisco, aboard the bus he meets Annie Brucker a red headed army veteran who did two tours of Iraq and her sweet little autistic boy, who turns out to be more than he appears. Both have their own stories in the book. The bus crashes and so starts the journey to free the commons from the thief Mr Brill who holds souls and their energy known as essence for his selfish gain never allowing them to move on. Which means everybody that dies gets trapped in Mr Brill's web never to leave purgatory.
Along the way Paul meets Jonas Porter a workaholic envoy who's job is to help him complete his journey. Rain a beautiful goth girl who's hair is as dark as her eyes with an attitude to match. Ken a huge mummy with a gentle personality and Po a crazy little monk with anger issues, who when fighting reminds me of tazzy devil just a blur of arms and legs.
Together they embark on an adventure to last a lifetime. Can they free the commons from the evil that traps it?

Micheal paints a picture so clear I didn't even need to close my eyes to see it. I fell in love with the characters they rip you into their journey and a world full of mystical and magical things, you will never want the book to end.
I laughed, I cried, I pondered life and am a better person for having read this book. Inside you will find a story of growth and twists you could never predict, with many beautiful quotes one of my favourites was when Jonas told Paul he felt "Like a kitten at four am and the world my owners toes".
I urge you to read this book you wont regret it Micheal is a genius. i give this book a ten out of five. You can find it at Kobo, Itunes and Amazon for under $4 but worth so much more. Looking forward to book two.

Avid Reader and Geek Girl (avidreaderandgeekgirl) | 1571 comments I suggest Innocence- It is very good, at first you don't get exactly what the two main characters have in common, but when you do WOW.

message 14: by Darren (new)

Darren (lizard800) I picked up a book called "The girl who just appeared" by Jonathan Harvey, purely because it was 2 for £7 at Tesco, not knowing anything about it, and I totally reccommend it! It is funny and has some great twists in it, and is really quite heartwarming and heartbreaking at times aswell. It starts off slow but stick with it and it hooks you!

message 15: by Adriana (new)

Adriana (adrianitapineda) | 5 comments Hi, i suggest this new author Anna Todd, her books are an explosion of emotions, if you like a combination between young adult ,chick-lit, romance, a little bit of erotic, this is the book for you.
Tessa Young, a shy girl who's life is about to change, all her world would be upside down by this obnoxious selfcenter boy.

A reality hint of romance, not so much of flowers and romance but a dramatic and selfdestructing relationship, that will make you hate, love, laugh.

message 16: by Belinda (new)

Belinda (bmao) | 2 comments I just finished a book by Jung-Sook Camilla Lee and it was so inspirational! I met her on the USC campus during a speaking event and I would definitely her book.

It's an inspirational memoir about her life on wall street the role her christian faith played in her career!

a great read for any young professional who is struggling to advance their career

Mitsy (mitsyc) | 41 comments Just finished Blocked by Jennifer Lane. Blocked is about two college students, Dane and Lucia. His mom and her dad are running for President Of the United States. It's about stress, the pressures of being college students, the pressure of a political race, the pressure of being scholarship student athletes, etc. Blocked is wonderful. :)

Blocked by Jennifer Lane is now available to pre-order on Kindle or buy as a paperback on Amazon. :)

-RininTa- (rinz) | 39 comments I recommend We Were Liars by E. Lockhart. I've read it and I'm really surprise with the ending :)

Also, for you who likes dystopian, I suggest you to try Perfect Ruin by Lauren DeStefano. It has well developed world and complex personality characters :D

message 19: by [deleted user] (new)

I would recommend Wit'ch Fire. It is the first in an amazing fantasy series, and I could not put it down!

message 20: by [deleted user] (new)

Can anyone recommend me a time travel novel in which the girl goes back in time preferably to victorian era or the second world war one. Romance, Adventure, Mystery, Paranormal anything but there should be at least a romantic subplot which doesn't involve the heroine gushing how handsome the male lead is.

Lol Great.
Anyway please recommend them anyways especially if it's something which is really addicting :)

On another note, should I make a new thread or post somewhere else? This place doesn't seem to be too active.

I do have a question. Do you like fantasy, paranormal books maybe even mystery.

Yeah this thread is not that active. You could try the group chit chat and the book suggestions thread though those are not for the purposes you are looking for.

Joyce | 5 comments I am always looking for new authors to support because sometimes it is really hard to find a good book. I recently found one who does both YA and paranormal romance very well. Also, to me, this is the best dystopian series out there: Legend (Legend, #1) by Marie Lu Prodigy (Legend, #2) by Marie Lu Champion (Legend, #3) by Marie Lu .

message 40: by Kristie, Moderator (Retired) (new)

Kristie | 5827 comments J - I really enjoyed the Legend series too. I have had The Iron King on my TBR for a while now, but keep forgetting about it. Thanks for the recommendation.
