The Mean Street for this Martin Scorsese picture is Wall Street. His show pushes the hard- R rating to depict the wild life and times of a stock-selling pirate who bilks investors for millions that fuel a ten-year spree of obscene consumption, Bad Boy decadence and absurd levels of sex and drug abuse. Leonardo DiCaprio plays Jordan Belfort beautifully, surrounded by a corps of terrific players (including Margot Robbie) given clear characters by Terence Winter and superb direction by Scorsese. The surprise is that the show is not a facile take-down of the American Dream. Screaming greed is the lure and the joke’s on us. Co-starring Jonah Hill, Matthew McConaughey, Kyle Chandler, Rob Reiner, Jon Bernthal, Jon Favreau, Jean Dujardin and Joanna Lumley.

Edgar Wiggins is a Soul Plumber, and the hero of the new DC Horror title of the same name, created by The Last Podcast on the Left trio of Ben Kissel, Marcus Parks, and Henry Zebrowski. The enormously successful podcast, now available exclusively on Spotify, combines comedy and high strangeness for deep dives into the paranormal, ufology, dark history, and true crime.
And with Soul Plumber, the deep dives continue by — as Zebrowski describes him — a tolerant and pure-hearted “wet Chihuahua” of a man driven by a sincere belief in a loving God, but is just too weird to fit in anywhere. The gas station attendant builds a pirated version of a machine intended to deliver souls from Satan, but ends up getting more than he bargains for when he goes after a demon.

"Even in soft dirt, digging a grave is a crazy thing to ask of one person." Ain't that the truth... A few laughs might be just what we all need right now. Enjoy this dark comedy short film Dig Your Own Grave, made by filmmaker Kirk Larsen. Every mobster loves to tell anyone they're about to get rid of to "dig your own grave!" But... is that actually an easy thing to do? That's the basic premise of this short comedy film. Reggie, played Henry Zebrowski, brings Dan, played by Amos Vernon, into the desert to dig his own grave, but the ground is really hard and this is going to take much longer than either of them anticipated. Find out what happens next. This is a very simple concept but very clever, and the two wacky performances play well off each other. Larsen wanted to make a film that...

One of the most troubling problems with the true-crime genre, if you ask the hosts of the megahit Last Podcast on the Left, can be summed up with the 2019 Netflix docuseries Conversations With a Killer, or, as co-host Marcus Parks calls it, “that fucking Ted Bundy series.” Parks and his Last Podcast co-creators frequently deride the documentary — as well as Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile, the contemporaneous biopic starring Zac Efron — for making the serial killer seem brilliant and suave, while glossing over less-appealing details. “I think it’s...

When Ben Kissel, Marcus Parks, and Henry Zebrowski first premiered their darkly comic true crime and paranormal podcast, The Last Podcast on the Left, in 2011, pop culture was in a much different, perhaps less murder-y place. Landmark true crime podcast series Serial was still three years away, Netflix’s whodunnit Making a Murderer was four years out, and Ted Bundy was still a monster and not a charming antihero played by Zac Efron.
Yes, as is often the case for early podcast trailblazers, the rest of the world caught up. For Kissel, Parks, and Zebrowski, this meant suddenly living in an environment where their deathly niche interests had gone mainstream.
“We’ve always done this show because these are the things we’re interested in and these are the things we liked talking about,” Parks adds. “It actually makes life a little easier as people, because we used to get...

There’s a monster terrorizing screenwriter/co-director Jeremy Gardner’s protagonist in “After Midnight,” and he doesn’t know why, what it is or where it came from. After 83 minutes, we still don’t know, either, but at least it has become clear this is one of those films that “defies categorization” by identifying with a marketable genre it’s nonetheless not really interested in.
Originally titled “Something Else” when it premiered at Tribeca last year, Gardner and collaborator Christian Stella’s film certainly wants to be something other than “just” a horror film, but … what? Ironically for a movie whose hero is accused of evading commitment, “After” also flirts with being a relationship drama, an indie-folk musical, a quirky comedy and whatnot. But none of these things ever quite coalesces, leaving their vehicle a jerry-rigged contraption of variably interesting, likable and skillful elements that only add up to one rather arbitrary goof.

"You see what it did to my door?!" Cranked Up Films has debuted an official trailer for an indie horror film titled After Midnight, a creature feature from director Jeremy Gardner and producers Justin Benson & Aaron Moorhead. This mumblecore-esque horror also stars Jeremy Gardner as a man whose girlfriend suddenly disappears, leaving a cryptic note as her only explanation. As his life begins to crack and fall apart, he is haunted by something that comes in from the woods and attacks his house every night. Co-starring Brea Grant, Henry Zebrowski, Ashley Song, Nicola Masciotra, & Justin Benson. Described as a "charming, introspective crowd-pleaser about love, loss, and monsters." I caught this at the Sitges Film Festival and it's good! Any and all horror fans should keep an eye on this film. Adult Swim’s premiere Satanic workplace comedy is back for more outrageous takes on Hades’ most incompetent demons!

Hell used to be an untouchable area for television, let alone for comedies, but the medium has grown receptive over the years. Horror has exploded on television since Your Pretty Face is Going to Hell officially premiered on Adult Swim back in 2013. The series has never shied away from the aggressive material that dominates damnation, but the rest of TV has slowly risen to its twisted level.
This series always delivers a feast for the senses, but it’s been two years since the conclusion of season three and this fourth season wrapped production well over a year ago, so it’s great to finally see these new episodes get released. Perhaps it has a lot to do with the absence between seasons, but Your Pretty Face is Going to Hell...

Jeremy Gardner’s Something Else promises a brisk Florida creature feature, ends up a perfect companion to 2014’s Spring based on romantic tone, and seals all-important sincerity during a 90s-classic karaoke performance. “Slow burn” is the name of Gardner’s multifaceted game, as soulful stagnation festers under southern heat rays that cook up feelings of rural entrapment.
Life is beautiful yet fleeting; incomprehensible magnitude that’s as crushing as it can be spiritually freeing. Tribeca 2019’s most sentimental Midnighter is an ode to seeking answers and finding our paths in the most muddied, bizarre ways possible. Expressions of love, defensive barricades against unknowns beating down our doorsteps, and plenty of emptied bottles of cheap red wine. Something Else is indeed…no pun intended…something else.

Some creative professions are harder than others, and then there’s magic, which requires a leap of faith as much as genuine talent. Conor and Tyler Byrne’s new comedic short film “Loudini” examines the life of a magician and its unique struggle. Commission by Ray Ban, the film follows a down-on-his luck magician (Henry Zebrowski) who loses his rabbit and struggles to keep his act together. “Loudini” also stars Allyn Rachel (“Million Dollar Arm”), Robert Michael Lee (“The Astronaut Farmer”), and Jakob Verweij in his screen debut. It also features an exclusive musical performance by the band Car Seat Headrest, performing their original song “Does It Feel Good?” Watch the short below.

"Still wearing the cape?" Today's must see short film discovery is titled Loudini, a charming and amusing story about a struggling magician who goes by the nickname "Loudini". Made by the same guys who made the short film Foureyes that we featured a few years ago, Loudini is described (by the filmmakers) as their "mash up of Punch Drunk Love, Inside Llewyn Davis and King of Comedy". That's an eclectic yet appealing pitch that should grab a few of you. The short also has a performance by the musician Car Seat Headrest. This is a great example of a simple idea made grand and engaging by smart filmmaking choices. Have fun. Found on YouTube. Description: "an original short film -- commissioned by Ray Ban -- about a struggling magician, starring Henry Zebrowski (Wolf of Wall Street) and with a musical performance by Car Seat Headrest." Loudini is written and directed by Conor Byrne,...

It seems 2015/2016 shall be marked as the TV season that saw the resurgence of old shows reborn in mini-series form (or “event series” as the Us networks so desperately want us to call them). Its also the year that these returning shows, The X-Files and Heroes Reborn, did nothing but disappoint the fans who loved the shows and hoped – beyond all hope it turns out – that these new iterations would recapture what made the original series so good.
Heroes Reborn comes from original series creator Tim Kring (Heroes, Touch, Daybreak) and begins a year ago, in Odessa, Texas after a terrorist attack leaves the city decimated. Those with extraordinary abilities are blamed for this tragic event forcing them into hiding...

In addition to Zebrowski, the cast of Your Pretty Face Is Going to Hell includes: Craig Rowin, Matt Servitto, Dan Triandiflou, Hunter Womach, and Eddie Pepitone.

Heroes Reborn's finale Project Reborn might be the last episode of Heroes altogether. But is it any good?
This review contains spoilers.
1.13 Project Reborn
With Project Reborn marking not only the end of Heroes Reborn but, in all likelihood, the conclusion of Heroes as a television franchise, an unenviable responsibility rests upon Tim Kring and co. to sign off in style. Thankfully, it must be said that this is one hell of a way to go out.
Arguably the strongest episode of this entire 13-part run, Project Reborn is a relentless yet cohesive barrage of lump-in-throat emotion, pulsating action and fist-pumping moments. There are problems, some minor and some very much not minor, but for the most part the Heroes Reborn finale is as entertaining and gripping as could have been expected.
Naturally, this week’s body-count takes a sharp incline and first to bite the dust is Luke,...

In Dirty Grandpa, Zac Efron’s do-gooder Jason Kelly has no idea what he’s getting himself into. When he innocently agrees to help his recently-windowed grandfather (Robert De Niro) get over his loss, Kelly finds himself strung along on the most outrageous of journeys, as his old old man sets about grabbing life by the short and curlies during his twilight years.
Whether you’re excited about Dirty Grandpa – directed by Dan Mazer – will largely depend on your tolerance of De Niro’s more eclectic career choices over the past half-decade or so. It seems no that for every return to form in a film such as Silver Linings Playbook or Joy, we’re left to contend with a cookie-cutter comedy that does little more than to exaggerate the fact that, yes, De Niro is no longer as young as he used to be.

I never thought I’d see Robert De Niro and Zac Efron star in a film together. Then hell froze over and along came a film project called Dirty Grandpa. It’s a raunchy road trip comedy that follows a grandpa and grandson as they travel to Florida. What’s supposed to be an innocent bonding experience turns into a wild spring break adventure.
The red-band trailer that was released gives you a taste of the kind of comedic vulgarity that this movie has to offer. I don't think the movie looks very good, and it’s really weird watching Aubrey Plaza ridiculously throw herself at De Niro sexually all the way through the trailer. Maybe some of you might find it funny, but yeah… I’m not sold on this one. It's just trying way too hard to be funny.

If you thought Robert De Niro rediscovered his mojo and indulged in some debauchery far, far beyond his age range in the reveal trailer for Dirty Grandpa, then buckle up for today’s red band tease.
Lionsgate debuted the raunchy clip earlier today, outlining the film’s shoe-string story. Essentially, Zac Efron’s buttoned-up lawyer-to-be begrudgingly agrees to drive his recently-widowed grandfather cross country. And so, postponing his wedding plans with his love-to-be, Jason Kelly (Efron) indulges in Dick’s (De Niro) new lease on life. With that, Jason takes his old, old man to Spring Break which, and as today’s trailer teases, leads to all manner of age inappropriate shenanigans.
In what could be seen as another potential miss in De Niro’s career, Dirty Grandpa struggles to win us over with its hollow, predictable set-up. Yes, Zac Efron takes off his shirt at one point, while De...

This review contains spoilers.
1.9 Sundae, Bloody Sundae
Luke and Joanne work out their issues over some ice cream and Matt Parkman attempts to recreate The Prisoner this week as Heroes Reborn returns to the present day with Sundae, Bloody Sundae. With all the head-scratching time travel and info-dumping from the past two episodes out of the way, Heroes Reborn gets to return to a streamlined, less hasty format as we are reacquainted with the main timeline, albeit with the addition of a few squashed butterflies. The more sedate pace is a pleasant change of gear after the intensity of the June 13th two-parter and it’s a relief to be back in more familiar territory and to catch up with the characters who took a back seat for the flashback episodes.

Following up on yesterday’s teaser image of Zac Efron and Robert De Niro kicking back in a flashy pink Mini Cooper, Lionsgate has debuted the maiden trailer for its new coming-out-of-age comedy Dirty Grandpa.
Using the interplay between the two leads to anchor the on-screen pizazz, Dan Mazer’s (I Give it a Year) feature follows Efron’s uptight, soon-to-be-married man who begrudgingly agrees to drive his newly-widowed grandfather (De Niro) up to Spring Break. Dusting off the cobwebs, Dirty Grandpa plays it straight and narrow by having the actor engage in the kind of party stunts and unprotected sex one would expect from a stereotypical teenage boy, not an actor whose career continues to baffle rather than amaze.
Indeed, playing a grouchy old man is hardly anything new for De Niro, and it’s unlikely that Dirty Grandpa will help Efron bounce back from the box office flop...

"The way I see it - this is our last stand." Lionsgate has debuted the trailer for Dirty Grandpa, about an uptight kid played by Zac Efron who has to drive his lewd, perverted former-Army-general grandfather, played by Robert De Niro, to spring break in Florida. Ohhhh man this is one hell of a raunchy film, and not in a good way. At least they admit that De Niro's character is a "pervert", because damn is he an asshole. The cast includes Julianne Hough, Aubrey Plaza, Dermot Mulroney, Zoey Deutch, Jason Mantzoukas, Adam Pally and Henry Zebrowski. I recommend staying as far away from this film as possible, it's just not worth it. Here's the first official trailer for Dan Mazer's Dirty Grandpa, originally from BuzzFeed: Right before his wedding, an uptight guy (Efron) is tricked into driving his grandfather (De Niro), a perverted former Army general, to Florida for spring break.

Can grown-up Zac Efron lead a movie on his own? The jury is still out. He scored a big hit last year with "Neighbors" alongside Seth Rogen, but nobody cared about his aspiring DJ drama "We Are Your Friends," which dropped the needle in August. So the actor is back in raunchy comedy mode, and is bringing along Robert De Niro who once again shows there's no bar too low for his legacy to limbo under. Read More: Review: 'We Are Your Friends' Starring Zac Efron Directed by Dan Mazer ("I Give It A Year"), this a road trip movie about an uptight young man who is about to get married, who has drive his freewheeling Grandpa to Spring Break. And thus, the comedy is anchored on De Niro being the unlikely party animal, and Efron furrowing his brow and looking on with consternation. We'll see what...
