Typical Belgian Humour
To the first commenter: bravo. You succeeded in understanding absolutely nothing of the whole concept. Which is: short sketches (with recurring characters) with absurd humour, with fake mustaches, bad dialects (especially that! I still call every Johan "Jéhan" and every Patrick "Petrick", da ies joeng!) etc. You of course have to understand this type of comedy before you can enjoy it. And that requires a bit intelligence and a bit thinking outside the box.
But it needs to be said: "Het Peulengaleis" is, together with "In de Gloria" without a doubt one of the greatest Flemish comedies ever and hardly comparable with any other Flemish TV-show that tried to be funny. And if you compare it to outlandish equivalents like the brilliant "Little Britain", you shall see it is in no way inferior.

just bought the DVD box!
I just bought the DVD box with the whole 2 seasons. This show is just great. It's the most absurd comedy show ever made in Belgium. I also remember the time when I was always listening to "Het Leugenpaleis" on Studio Brussel.Who can ever forget Dokter De Reiger ,Jefke De Lathouwer ,Joe Roxy ,Mr. Van Grouwel ,etc. I can keep this up all day.
Peulengaleis en "In De Gloria" were the two best Belgian comedy shows ever showed on television. I know people who really don't like "Het Peulengaleis" ,but they just don't understand the absurd humor in the show. It always has to be simple and often predictable humor.
In any case if you were a big fan of "Het Leugenpaleis" you just can't wait to see it all on television.

Extreme wackiness
This show is pure genius! Warning: if you don 't like absurd comedy, go watch "The Wonder Years" or something. You have to be a little more intelligent to see beyond the sometimes seemingly weak punchlines, but if you don 't get offended from things like "Cooking with Jesus" (where Jesus learns you how to make an ice cone with worcestershire sauce in a sponge using only a small miracle) you 'll love this show.
Most of the sketches are invented on-the-fly, almost nothing is rehearsed. This certainly adds an extra dimension.
The show is completely in Flemish (some sort of Dutch), and they use many common Flemish dialects, from Antwerp, Clement Peerens to the poetic Limbourg, Joe Roxy.
Recommended only for open minded people!

Great, if you're in to it
"Het Peulengaleis" started as an adaptation of the radio show "Het Leugenpaleis" Bart Peeters and Hugo Matthysen had some years ago, and consists of sketches with absurd humor. When I say absurd, I really mean absurd. I allways wonder where they get this stuff. And obviously Bart and Hugo have a lot of fun writing and recording them.
I don't think it's humor that appeals to a lot of people. That's probably the reason it's programmed rather late in the evening on a channel that is meant for "non-mainstream"-programs. But if you like that kind of humor you'll love Het Peulengaleis.

This is really sad...
I think 'het Peulengaleis' (a not-funny word joke) is the worst television series ever seen. The acting is... sorry, the 'acting' is extremely bad, the horrible, horrible dialect is just incredibly annoying and the costume design is well... Tom Ford hasn't designed it. That and the bad make-up and fake moustaches (maybe this is all intended but then it's even more stupid) make it a 1/1000 (the 1 is for being a television series)
I'm guessing the creators have to pay the Belgian national channel to get this broadcasted.
Terrible, if this ever gets released on dvd or something, I'll personally buy them all (they can't charge more than ?0,01 for this stuff!) and ask the Belgian government to maybe try this as a punishment for tough criminals.
