Sophie Thatcher is a certified scream queen.
The “Yellowjackets” breakout star has gone on to appear in “The Boogeyman,” act opposite Hugh Grant in A24’s buzzy “Heretic,” and now lead elusive horror-thriller “Companion” alongside Jack Quaid.
“Companion” only has a mysterious faux ad for its tagline, reading, “Hey you. Tired of swiping? Sick of getting ghosted? Are you feeling like a part of you is missing? FindYourCompanion.com is guaranteed to find you a Companion who’s made for you.”
Audiences can also text (978) 878-5683 to find their Companions — and yes, that is a real phone number with data rates applying.
The teaser trailer does show Thatcher seemingly being stalked, chased, and perhaps even murdered, before being reborn as a robot love interest for Quaid’s character. Lukas Gage, Megan Suri, Harvey Guillén, and Rupert Friend also star.

Sometimes a trailer comes along that's a bit of a surprise, lurking in the peripheral of the hype cycle so that when it drops, it's a refreshing surprise. The teaser trailer for "Companion," from the team behind the 2022 horror hit "Barbarian," is just that kind of trailer. Featuring a sweetly sinister Jack Quaid and a truly terrified Sophie Thatcher, the teaser gives us a look into what could be one of next year's biggest surprise hits. The teaser is delightfully tongue-in-cheek, starting off with, "The studio that brought you 'The Notebook' cordially invites you to experience a new kind of love story," written in elegant cursive script, though it's clear that this movie will be nothing like "The Notebook."
Instead of following Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams on a heart-wrenching love story throughout their lives, it looks like we're going to watch Quaid and Thatcher as he torments her and threatens her,...

The sci-fi thriller Companion is coming our way from writer/director Drew Hancock and the team behind the 2022 horror hit Barbarian, but even though over a year has passed since the project assembled its cast and went into production, we still know very little about it. It has managed to stay shrouded in secrecy all this time. Which is a good thing, since it won’t be reaching theatres (including IMAX screens) until January 10, 2025… but now, the shroud is starting to be lifted, starting with the release of a teaser trailer. You can watch it in the embed above. The release date gives Companion a one week head-start on Blumhouse Productions and director Leigh Whannell’s reboot of the classic Universal Monsters property Wolf Man.
In addition to the teaser trailer, there’s an official synopsis that doesn’t give away anything about the characters or what they’re up...

Andy Muschietti's mega-blockbuster adaptation of "It" kicked off a new boom of Stephen King adaptations when it hit theaters in 2017, but if we were in a boom, is it safe to say we've now hit a bust? There are still tons of new King adaptations coming (I'm excited to see Osgood Perkins' take on "The Monkey" and Bryan Fuller's horned-up "Christine" update), but the massive hits have slowed down (remember "Firestarter?"), and one major adaptation, Warner Bros' "'Salem's Lot," is only now coming out after years of sitting on the shelf.
The works of Stephen King will always continue to be rich and entertaining, whether they're dominating the pop cultural zeitgeist or not. But if one title exemplifies the fickleness of the recent King adaptation boom, it's "Castle Rock," a wonderfully complicated, delightfully mysterious King-adjacent series that unceremoniously died on the vine at Hulu despite delivering two great seasons of television.

As “Curb Your Enthusiasm” prepares to bid farewell after a 24-year run and 12 seasons on HBO, star J.B. Smoove argues there’s one mystery left unsolved that he’d love to see get the spin-off treatment: What was Leon Black up to before he met Larry David?
“I’d be a fool to say I wouldn’t be open to a spin-off,” Smoove told TheWrap. “I think this dude has levels to him. We don’t know what he does when he’s not with Larry, we don’t know where he came from. I think there’s something to this guy that’s really interesting in how he sees things.”
Leon first appeared in “Curb” during Season 6 when he decides to take refuge at Larry and Cheryl’s house after his family is displaced by a hurricane — and proceeds to never move out. Over the subsequent seven seasons, he...

‘Curb Your Enthusiasm’ Guest Star Troy Kotsur Reveals the Joke That Made Larry David Break Character
Note: The following story contains spoilers from “Curb Your Enthusiasm” Season 12, Episode 3.
Sunday’s episode of “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” titled “Vertical Drop, Horizontal Tug,” sees Larry David hit the golf course, where he eavesdrops on a lesson that improves his swing a little too well.
The lesson is given to Troy Kotsur, a deaf actor who is best known for his Academy Award-winning supporting role in the Apple TV+ film “Coda.” Through the rest of the episode, Kotsur’s feud with David intensifies as he’s hit in the back by one of Larry’s golf balls and later hit with a bagel intended for a homeless man.
To keep the narrative spontaneous, “Curb Your Enthusiasm” is shot without a script. Cast members are given scene outlines so they can improvise lines as they go. The actor opened up about how his prior experience in improv helped him make David...

It lasted only one season, but fans still mourn the demise of the sci-fi/western Firefly. As much as we love watching (and rewatching) the series, sometimes it's not enough.
Are you longing for a little more Captain Tight Pants? Want to see Zoe quietly kick some adversary's butt? Wishing you could revisit the Hero of Canton?
Well, we can't bring back Firefly -- oh, how we wish we could! -- but we can tell you where you can tune in to see the cast now.
If you can't get enough of the crew of the Serenity, read on to find out where you can see them now.
Ron Glass - Shepherd Derrial Book
Shepherd Book was the preacher with a cryptic past who boards the Serenity and befriends its crew. We loved Book's warmth and acceptance of his other crew members while still being able to hold onto his faith.

The executives at New Line Cinema were clearly blown away by last year’s horror release Barbarian (watch it Here) – which was distributed by 20th Century Studios – as they have made it very clear over the last week that they are eager to be in business with the creative team behind that film. They made an eight figure deal with writer/director Zach Cregger to ensure that his next movie – something called Weapons – will be a New Line Cinema project. They signed a first look deal with Barbarian producers BoulderLight Pictures so they will develop high concept genre properties for the company. And now The Hollywood Reporter has broken the news that New Line Cinema has put a thriller called Companion on the fast track to production, with Cregger producing alongside BoulderLight and Vertigo’s Roy Lee.

Barbarian producer BoulderLight Pictures has set up a new thriller titled Companion at New Line, Deadline can confirm. The film will be the first produced under the banner’s first-look deal with the studio, announced just days ago.
News of the project comes following New Line’s triumph in a heated auction for Weapons — the second feature from writer-director Zach Cregger to produced by both BoulderLight and Vertigo Entertainment.
Details as to the plot of Companion are under wraps, though it’s being fast-tracked for production this year alongside Weapons. Deadline understands that Cregger initially eyed Companion as his directorial follow-up to Barbarian, though the team wound up setting the project as the directorial debut of Drew Hancock, who penned the script.
Producers are BoulderLight’s Raphael Margules and J.D. Lifshitz, Vertigo’s Roy Lee, and Cregger. BoulderLight’s Tracy Rosenblum and Vertigo’s Andrew Childs will exec produce.

Just days after winning a heated auction for the next feature project from Zach Cregger, New Line is quickly reteaming with the filmmaker behind last year’s surprise hit, Barbarian, for another genre project.
The Warner Bros. arm has picked up Companion, a sci-fi thriller from Drew Hancock, who wrote the script and who will also direct.
Cregger will produce the feature along with Raphael Margules and J.D. Lifshitz of BoulderLight Pictures and Vertigo’s Roy Lee. The project reunites the filmmaking team that produced, and in the case of Cregger, wrote and directed, Barbarian. And it becomes one of the first projects out of gate for BoulderLight’s freshly signed deal with New Line.
Plot details are being kept securely squared away on a screenwriting app.
And just like Cregger’s new project, Weapons, Companion is also being fast-tracked for a 2023 production start.
Sources say Companion was initially going...

In so doing, he ignites a chain reaction that overwhelms the lives of his now suicidal wife (Bowden), her nymphomaniacal younger sister (Debo) with whom he’s having an affair, a deeply indebted gambling and alcoholic lawyer (Schneider), a Brooklyn born bookmaker/pimp...

The world has changed but Larry David hasn’t. That’s the best possible news for the legion fanbase of “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” the comedian’s long-running half-hour series. HBO dropped the trailer for its upcoming Season 11 on Wednesday, October 13, featuring guest stars Patton Oswalt, Vince Vaughn, Jon Hamm, Seth Rogen, and more.
The series originally debuted in 2001 and has run for more than 100 episodes. “Curb Your Enthusiasm” stars “Seinfeld” co-creator David as an over-the-top version of himself in an unsparing but tongue-in-cheek depiction of his fictionalized life. The series also stars Susie Essman (“Broad City”), Jeff Garlin (“The Goldbergs”), Cheryl Hines (“Suburgatory”), J.B. Smoove (“Mapleworth Murders”), Ted Danson (“The Good Place”) and Richard Lewis (“Anything But Love”).
Per HBO, the comedy series continues to prove how seemingly trivial details of one’s day-to-day life — a cold cup of coffee, a stained shirt, a missing toothbrush — can precipitate a catastrophic chain of events.

TV writer Annie Weisman was captivated by Don Draper and Walter White, the two very complicated family men at the heart of “Mad Men” and “Breaking Bad,” when those ground-breaking characters were introduced nearly 15 years ago. Yet she yearned for more female-centric storytelling from both shows.
“I love ‘Mad Men,’ and I love ‘Breaking Bad,’ but I wanted to know about their wives,” says Weisman, creator and showrunner of Apple TV Plus’ “Physical,” starring Rose Byrne as a tormented young mother living in San Diego circa 1981.
Byrne’s Sheila Rubin, a disillusioned progressive afflicted by intense self-loathing and an ongoing eating disorder, is on a par with Draper and White for sheer complexity. And she’s easily the most conflicted of new wave of moms getting a share of the TV spotlight these days in shows ranging from “Mrs. America” to “Girls5Eva” to “Hacks.” They present an image of motherhood...

Pretty Boy: "Pretty Boy, the follow up to the award-winning film Blind, has completed principal photography. Pretty Boy, directed by Marcel Walz and written by Joe Knetter, continues the story they set in motion in Blind.
Pretty Boy just finished the Post Production with Company 3
Marcel Walz (Director)
“Filming Pretty Boy the way we did was a dream comes true for me. It is beautiful, fun, gory and creepy. Seeing our Killer, “Pretty Boy”, slashing through this love letter to the 80s is what I have always wanted to do! Also, as an LGBTQ Director, I could go crazy on set design for the Valentine’s party and overall theme in the movie, so be prepared for a lot of pinks, glitter and some intestines Lol!“
Joe Knetter (Writer)

CBS is nearing a series order for what would be an event-series revival of crime-lab procedural “CSI,” with Paula Newsome, Matt Lauria and Mel Rodriguez joining the cast, according to a source familiar with the matter.
The Anthony Zuiker and Jerry Bruckheimer series, which aired from 2000-2015, was a longtime hit for the broadcaster. Centering on the crime-solvers of the Las Vegas Crime Lab, the original cast starred William Petersen, Marg Helgenberger, George Eads, Gary Dourdan, Jorja Fox, Paul Guilfoyle, Robert David Hall, and Eric Szmanda. In later seasons, Laurence Fishburne and Ted Danson succeeded Petersen in the lead role.
This iteration has added Newsome, a longtime film, TV and stage actor. She is most recently known for her performance opposite Henry Winkler and Bill Hader as detective Janice Moss in HBO’s “Barry,” as well as a 12-episode arc on NBC’s “Chicago Med.” Other television credits include “City of Angels,...

Miramax TV is developing and producing a new original series entitled “Messy,” created by actress Carly Chaikin, Variety has learned exclusively. Chaikin is known best for playing the role of Darlene in USA Network’s “Mr. Robot” and co-starring as Dalia Royce in ABC’s “Suburgatory.” Chaikin not only wrote “Messy,” but will also star in the dark comedy about a mother-daughter duo that organizes houses for a living (the irony is that both of their lives are total messes). Chaikin will play the daughter. In addition, Liz Brizius, the Emmy-nominated co-creator and co-showrunner of Showtime’s “Nurse Jackie,” will serve as showrunner as part of the overall deal she inked with Miramax TV last summer. Also attached to produce “Messy” are Julie Bowen and Rachael Field of Bowen & Sons, who both previously worked together on the ABC sitcom “Modern Family.” “Carly Chaikin has written a refreshingly original comedy...

As a former script supervisor, Silver Tree was in the unique position of being a “co-pilot” for many directors. This inspired her to take the leap and rebrand herself as a director, first with a feature film she also co-wrote (“Deep Dark Canyon”). For the better part of the last decade, though, Tree has worked on some of the most tonally unique series, from the dark and delicious “You” on Netflix, to the twisted humor of Showtime’s “Shameless” and the Globes and guilds-eligible traumedy “Dead To Me” (also Netflix).
Script supervision is such a specific, solitary job. What made you want to go into that line of work and how did you then transition into directing?
After college I had taken a gap year: I wanted to travel the world and I didn’t come from a family situation where they could send me around so I got a job as a flight attendant.

Sometimes when one is facing down a surprising new skill it’s best to call in the experts.
That’s exactly what the titular character in “Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist” did when she realized she could see and hear the innermost emotions of those around her coming to life through song and dance in the NBC musical comedy. And in many ways, that’s what the show itself did in its casting.
Zoey, played by Jane Levy, seeks counsel from her music-loving neighbor Mo (Alex Newell) early on in the series, as she struggles to understand her new power because she doesn’t know which song she is hearing or what it is about. Levy had an extensive background in comedy, from Showtime’s “Shameless” to ABC’s “Suburgatory,” but had yet to truly stretch her musical muscles prior to this show. Newell, on the other hand, comes from such a background,...
