We commend California Surgeon General Dr. Diana Ramos on the launch of Strong Start & Beyond—a bold initiative to reduce California’s maternal mortality rate by 50% by December 2026. This movement leverages state investments and partnerships to raise awareness, encourage active participation in health, and expand access to vital resources for mothers and their families. Up to 20% of women experience mental health conditions during pregnancy and postpartum, but 75% don’t receive the treatment they need. Stigma, lack of education, and limited access to care are major barriers—122 million people in the U.S. live in areas with insufficient mental health services. Calm Health's GM, Christopher Carey, spoke about how Calm Health is helping to bridge this gap by providing accessible, immediate support for maternal mental health, particularly in underserved communities. We’re proud to support Strong Start & Beyond and look forward to collaborating with leaders like Dr. Ramos to ensure every family has access to the care they deserve.

What if we focused less on solving the mental health crisis and more on managing mental health? Because the truth is we all face mental and emotional challenges at some point in our lives. So why don’t we work together to normalize those challenges and help people manage them when they arise? Calm CEO David Ko will explore this perspective with Nicholas Thompson, CEO of The Atlantic, at The Atlantic Festival later this month. Please join us in person or online for “The Myth of a Fix: Mental Health Isn’t a Problem to Solve” on September 20 at 2:56 pm ET.
