Para-swimming classification

[edit]

How to add para-swimming classification (Q7133633) as a Statement or a qualification of an existing Statement? Or does it have another placement in the WD item? -- Deborahjay (talk) 07:47, 9 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

INFO: According to the subject's page on the International Paralympic Committee website, her Sport Class is S10. -- Deborahjay (talk) 07:52, 9 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Deborahjay: I'm not sure how to use exactly it but we do have an item S10 (Q7388168). I see a few items using sports discipline competed in (P2416)S10 (Q7388168) added by MisterSynergy, maybe they could tell us more. Cheers, VIGNERON (talk) 15:19, 9 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, for the sportsperson item sports discipline competed in (P2416): S10 (Q7388168) works. It is not ideal, though, since (depending on the type of sport) this may be pretty difficult to maintain in good shape as classification may change over time, or sportspersons participate in several different classes if eligible.
IMO the cleaner approach is to create an item for the event ("swimming at the 2024 Summer Paralympics – women's 100 metre backstroke S10"), link it from this item via participant in (P1344), and the event item then links to a competition class item via competition class (P2094) (which is not directly allowed on items of type human). All of this is pretty excessive to set up initially, but it does work well once it is there.
An example would be Paralympic rower (and Gold medalist) Moran Samuel (Q12408978) and the four participant in (P1344) claims therein, where all four values ultimately link to PR1 women's single scull (Q47509011) (the competition class item) which creates the relationship to the classification PR1 (Q4654434). You can then pretty easily query for all participants in a PR1 event, only females PR1 participants, and so on as each criterion of the classification item can be queried individually. —MisterSynergy (talk) 18:45, 9 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
