分散式社交網路或聯邦式社交網路是多個社交網路服務提供者以去中心的模式分佈在各個地方的一種網路，其分佈方式著重在服務的可移植性[註 1]、互操作性與實現互聯的能力。分散式社交網路跟以管理分離的社交網路中的多個帳號、服務為目的的社交網路集聚服務相對。
包括用來進行授權的 OAuth、用來進行認證的 OpenID、用來互聯的 OStatus、用來發現後設資料的 XRD、Portable Contacts 協定、OpenSocial 的部件 API、微格式 XFN 與 hCard、Atom 消息來源，在內的多個開放標準，被當作是分散式社交網路的基石，統稱為開放堆疊[1]。
有些社交網路服務透過部件或是插件，提供可以配置在不同網站的特定服務，並廣義地使用“分散式社交網路”這個說法稱呼這種服務。透過這類的擴充套件 ，社交網路的功能得以展現在使用者的網站上。
分布式网络与联邦式网络结构的异同
[编辑]两种网络结构都具有去中心化的性质。按照波兰裔美国工程师保罗·巴兰的定义，分布式网络指对等网络。在这样的定义下，因为联邦式结构含有多个中心节点，而对等网络不含有任何中心化的节点，所以分布式的去中心化程度要比联邦式的高。[2]
