沙俊七歲於家鄉地區開始卡丁車生涯，並於2009年首次轉戰歐洲。沙俊於2015年贏得世界卡丁車錦標賽OKJ級別總冠軍，是自1978年後首個贏得卡丁車錦標賽世界冠軍的美籍車手。

初級方程式賽車

沙俊於2016年末於阿聯四級方程式錦標賽（英语：2016–17 Formula 4 UAE Championship）首次參與單座賽車賽事，該季雖未得一冠，但沙俊仍然能憑著穩定的表現於18場賽事中15次登上頒獎台，以新秀身分獲得總亞軍。

2017年，沙俊加入卡林車隊（英语：Carlin Motorsport）參加英國四級方程式錦標賽（英语：F4 British Championship），他一共取得兩個桿位及兩勝，並只有兩場比賽未能得分，沙俊最終排名季軍。

2020年，沙俊轉隊到冠軍車隊普瑞馬，搭檔2019年歐洲區域方程式錦標賽總冠軍弗雷德里克·韋斯蒂（英语：Frederik Vesti）以及在四級方程式多次交鋒的奧斯卡·皮亞斯特里。 沙俊於賽季中段曾領先車手榜，亦是該季獲得最多桿位的參賽者。但由於數次因意外退出比賽，讓他將車手榜領先位置讓給對手奧斯卡·皮亞斯特里，直至穆傑洛站（英语：2020 Mugello Formula 3 round），皮亞斯特里並未能於常規賽得分，而沙俊則能以第六名完賽，與皮亞斯特里並列160分進入該季最後一場比賽。[3]衝刺賽，沙俊於首圈發生碰撞退賽而被逐出爭冠行列，最終獲得全年總季軍。

2021年，由於沙俊加入二級方程式錦標賽的計畫中斷，他第三年出戰三級方程式錦標賽。縱使他加入了資源較少的哈勞茲車隊（英语：Charouz Racing System）[4]，但他仍然能夠為車隊帶來自出戰國際汽聯三級方程式錦標賽以來第一個頒獎台及第一個分站冠軍，沙俊最終以總第7完成賽季。

國際汽聯二級方程式錦標賽

沙俊原定出戰2021年二級方程式錦標賽，但因預算問題而被迫將計畫擱置，到了該季倒數第二場比賽吉達站沙俊代表HWA車隊才首次參加二級方程式錦標賽。

2022，沙俊代表卡林車隊（英语：Carlin Motorsport）搭檔紅牛少年車隊成員連恩·羅森，出戰他首個二級方程式完整賽季。

一級方程式賽車

2021年10月，沙俊於美國大獎賽前夕宣布加入威廉斯車手學院。同年12月，沙俊在阿布達比青年車手測試駕駛威廉斯FW43B賽車。[5]

2022年，沙俊在美國大獎賽周五練習賽(FP1)駕駛威廉斯賽車，成為自2015年亞歷山大·羅西後首位參與一級方程式比賽周末的美國車手。[4]同一個周末，喬斯特·卡皮托宣布沙俊會在獲得足夠超級積分的前提下成為威廉士車隊2023年的正式車手[6]，他該季亦繼續在墨西哥城大獎賽、聖保羅大獎賽及阿布達比大獎賽，賽季尾四站的周五練習賽(FP1)駕駛威廉斯賽車。[7]

2023年美国大奖赛，在路易斯·咸美頓和夏尔·勒克莱尔被取消資格後，薩金特以第十名贏得了他的第一個一級方程式積分。他因此成為30年來第一位在一级方程式赛车比賽中獲得積分的美國車手。[8]

2024年澳大利亚大奖赛，由于队友亚历山大·阿尔本在第一节自由练习赛上撞车严重损毁了其底盘，且威廉姆斯车队并未准备备用底盘，最终车队决定使用萨金特的赛车底盘供阿尔本使用。这使得萨金特提前退出了本站比赛。[9]在2024年荷兰大奖赛第三节自由练习赛中，由于萨金特撞毁了其新升级的赛车，引发第三节练习赛红旗；由于损毁严重，使得他也错过了本场比赛的排位赛。在荷兰大奖赛结束后，威廉姆斯车队宣布取消萨金特的正式车手席位，他的位置在本赛季余下的比赛由威廉姆斯青训车手弗兰科·科拉平托接替。有媒体称萨金特在荷兰撞车事故所需的维修金额超过170万美元。
