坎特伯雷大主教（Archbishop of Canterbury）繼承了聖奧古斯丁的使徒統系，為全英之主教長(The Primate of All England)。而約克大主教，是英倫的主教長(The Primate of England)，坎特伯里大主教的權威，不但是承受了他的歷史事實，更是在神聖大公教會中的聖禮事保持者。

角色

今日的坎特伯里大主教有以下的角色：

• 普世聖公宗精神領袖

他主持自一八六七年起的每十年一次的全世界聖公會主教會議，雖然他在會中沒有絕對的裁判權，但他的意向，從未為人所忽視。
