The University of Toronto Aeronautics Team is a group of over 100 undergraduate and graduate students within the Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering at the University of Toronto. We are founded in 2004, and we remain to be the only team at the University of Toronto focused in aeronautic design.

In our early years, UTAT competed in the Canadian Aeronautics and Space Institute (CASI) Free Flight Competition, designing and building gliders scored on flight time and payload capacity. Within four years, we advanced from 7th to1st place. Beginning in the 2006-2007 season, our focus shifted to the SAE International Aero Design Competition, where the team was tasked to design and build powered radio controlled aircraft adhering to various constraints. In the 2011-2012 season UTAT competed in the Advanced Class and Micro Class of the SAE International Aero Design
Competition, brining back 6 awards in the two competitions – more than any other participant. This included 2nd overall in both classes. In addition UTAT participated in the CASI Free Flight Competition placing 3rd overall. This marked the most ambitious and successful year for the team to date.

Continuing this legacy, in additional to the powered and unpowered aircraft competitions the team participates in, we will also partake in two new competitions during the 2012-2013 season, rocketry and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV). Based on these competitions, our team is organized into four divisions. These groups are responsible for the design, presentation, and technical papers associated with their respective competitions. All members participate in the construction of the systems.
