Flickr pictures' time zone

I think it would be a nice improvement if your Flickr upload tool could retrieve the time zone together with the date and hour of each picture.

It seems that each Flickr user can choose his own time zone for his flickr account, and that this time zone is used by Flickr to interpret the EXIF date and time and calculate the Flickr "taken on" photo date and time.

CommonsDelinker

Hello. Here you have an interesting mix of filename using space and underscore (File:Ne_pas_signer-fond_jaune.png). Then maybe that's why the robot can't replace files. Do you think you/we can fix that or should i update pages myself?

If you use Python script, i can provide you a regex patch, but i dont know where is the code.

Thanks for your help. ~ bayo or talk 10:44, 22 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Lost of Exif data

hello,

When an image needs a rotation, apparently made by the bot, the Exif data are lost. For exemple, see the original version and the Commons version. Okki (talk) 10:31, 2 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Flickrreview bot telling uploaders if there is a problem

Hi Bryan! Perhaps I have asked about this before but now that you made the bot run every hour I thought that would be a good idea it the bot informed uploader if the license is unfree (npd-template) or if source is not found (nsd-template). However, if the size does not match it is probably because it is a crop and it is better to let a reviewer look at the image before uploader is "spammed". Would it be hard for you to implement a feature like that? --MGA73 (talk) 11:07, 29 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Markup bug in DRBot

Hi Bryan, Check this edit for an example. I suggest putting the entire deletion-reason in <nowiki>-tags, rather then just escaping the {{ and }}-characters.

ie. instead of this (currently):

'Deleted by Túrelio: content was: '{{delete|reason=This was meant to be a creator-template page, but I did something wrong and now it is just a regular page.|subpage=Frans_Pourbus_the_Younger|year=2010|month=October|day=28}} {{Creator | Name = :Category:Fr...
'''Deleted''' by [[User:Túrelio|Túrelio]]: ''content was: '{{delete|reason=This was meant to be a creator-template page, but I did something wrong and now it is just a regular page.|subpage=Frans_Pourbus_the_Younger|year=2010|month=October|day=28}} {{Creator | Name = :Category:Fr...'''

This:

Request for deletion

Hi, could you please delete this photo from Wikimedia Commons as it has been somewhat edited using an image editing software and then uploaded to Commons from Flickr. After you have deleted, I can upload it in Commons using suitable license. Regards- Tanweer Morshed (talk) 10:21, 25 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

CommonsDelinker does not work

Hi Bryan,
Yesterday I gave CommonsDelinker a couple of images to replace (to get rid of the "Δ" in my ol uploads). Some of them did work, some of them not. According to CommonsDelinker's log (http://toolserver.org/~delinker/index.php?replacer=1) and my image-collecting-page CommonsDelinker changed all files till Δ0016. However, not all uses are changed: Snow cannon nozzles-big Δ0011.JPG is still in use and it's new place Snow cannon nozzles-big PNr°0011.jpg as well.
Any ideas?
thx for help --D-Kuru (talk) 18:22, 15 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Seems that CommonsDelinker somewho works again. Is it common that CommonsDelinker needs some time to preocess some more images or takes some time off to reset itself after it got spammed with replacements? I'm just asking because I'm used to CommonsDelinker removing the entry within like 5 minutes after you set the command.

BryanBot malfunction

Hello Bryan. Someone has reported that your bot is malfunctioning. Could you have a look? Thanks. Happy holidays. Rehman 01:18, 31 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Please keep the service alive, it was already very usefull to find some bad copyvio cases. I asked Zil to please not have his bot images reviewed in his name but to let FlickrreviewR have the job done, that will keep the pages shorter in future. Thanks for all your work, --Martin H. (talk) 20:47, 7 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Don't worry, it will stay alive; I just have to periodically archive it. -- Bryan (talk to me) 11:38, 8 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hey. Not sure how this will affect, but DRBot may need some updates per MediaWiki_talk:Gadget-DelReqHandler.js#Updates_required. Kind regards. Rehman 10:13, 9 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

File:Diff_making_step_1.PNG has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Flickr Upload is down

Hi I'm not sure if this is the right place to let you know, but your Flickr Upload on the Toolserver is throwing an internal error. Hope it gets fixed by itself, or by you. Thanks! Mandiberg (talk) 23:42, 7 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, Mandiberg, for pointing it out... because I came here for the same reason: I've been getting "internal error" messages since Feb 7 or 6 and was starting to wonder if it's just me/my computer. Apparently it's not, so I hope someone can take care of it... --Ibn Battuta 15:11, 8 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Bryan, is your Flickr upload tool alright? If not, can it be fixed? Thanks, Motacilla (talk) 12:23, 19 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Flickr Upload bot: Requested changes

A couple suggestions if someone still reads this discussion page:

  1. I think it's very problematic that the bot is copying the flickr description into Commons without indicating so. While we can discuss if it's a copyright violation for short descriptions, it clearly is for longer ones. Maybe (?) even worse: I've seen flickr pictures, which have used copyright violations in their descriptions (sometimes from Wikipedia, sometimes from other sources)--if the bot simply copies them into Commons, we're importing these legal problems as well! Simple solution: Add quotation marks around the quote and the comment "original flickr description." That way everyone realizes it's not a Commons text... (and if a Commons user later wants to change it, he can still do so, but notices he's fiddling with someone else's (quoted!) text.)
  2. I'm using Adblock Plus. Strangely, the bot works as long as I disable Commons scripts--when I enable them, however, I'm getting an error message (can't copy it right now because the bot is down: see above). As I prefer to enable Commons scripts (for the cat-a-lot feature), this is quite annoying. Any way to take care of this?
  3. Would it be hard to improve the tool to add categorizations? I'm thinking of something along the lines of the cat-a-lot tool, which automatically displays sub- and super-categories (so if I wanted to categorize something in "Category:Sports," the tool would automatically display several or preferably all subcategories, which would make me realize that I should probably not leave my image in that general category... BTW, in the case of the bot, a large or even exhaustive list of the subcategories is of course more important than super-categories...).
  4. Once more about the descriptions: Any simple way to include a "language" feature, so the bot could add the typical template of "{{en|..." or whichever it is? Maybe by simply adding a checkbox asking if it's an "English description"... and alternatively, in one of the other most common Commons languages (Spanish, French, Dutch, German???)? (The last option could be "other," in which case the bot again leaves the description without a template.)

Thanks!!! (First and foremost for the bot... and even more so if you should consider any of the suggestions above.) --Ibn Battuta 15:11, 8 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, here we go with the error message, which I get from the bot when I try to upload images from flickr with JavaScript enabled (!) for Commons. Apparently, the bot is trying to overwrite the Main Page (!). (The following is copy-pasted; I'm leaving out the links.) URL is this, website:
"View source

If you could allow for Commons users to use both Javascript and your bot, that'd be very awesome. Thanks, Ibn Battuta (talk) 13:59, 10 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Bryan! I ask your help about the reviewing of this photo. I don't understand what FlickreviewR noted. Okay, when uploading I accidentally wrote cc-by-2.0 licenc, and your bot changed it to cc-by-sa-2.0, as it is seen on FlickR, too, but I don't understand this sentence: it is unknown whether that license ever was valid. Why is unkonwn? We can see on FlickR the licence. Thanks for you help in advance. - RepliCarter (talk) 14:18, 21 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

DR bot logic fault

DRbot does not handle redirects properly. Eg [3] file was kept after deletion request then moved, bot insists on putting {{Kept}} on redirection page rather than being satisfied with it on destination page.

Another example, File:414thcts-patch.jpg was deleted as duplicate/redundant but the bot insists[4] on adding {{Kept}} to talk page even though the file wasn't kept, just redirected.

Fix required, tell bot to only edit destination of redirects. --Tony Wills (talk) 23:28, 25 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

When using your tool I normally want to upload a big bunch of flickr images. -- Greetz Sir Gawain (talk) 07:48, 28 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Bug: CommonsDelinker removing images still available locally

Hi Bryan, I mentioned this bug to you before and it seems to still be there. It's causing a lot of problems for my bot. See this edit. At the time at which this edit was made, the file "File:Logo Uni St. Gallen.png" had already been re-uploaded to En at en:File:Logo Uni St. Gallen - from Commons.png, and a valid image redirect existed at en:File:Logo Uni St. Gallen.png. As such the image it removed was not a redlink. CommonsDelinker seems to ignore local image redirects. Let me know if I can do anything to help get this fixed. Thanks. Flickr images are not uploaded

Hello Bryan, could you please fix my July upload from flickr? I used toolserver for the flickrbot, but images are still nowhere. I didn't paste file extension, is this the problem? --Bonnifac (talk) 22:57, 29 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Same thing here, the bot gives an error message: "Image is not in database." after clicking the upload link. Flying Saucer (talk) 10:59, 30 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
In my case, no error, but no image. See http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Osoyoos_fruit_trees.jpg . Note that I manually uploaded the image up to the same filename after ten minutes (ignoring the "same file name" warning), so the upload credit says "Lexein" not UploadBot or Bryan.
A great feature would be more status information while the bot is doing its work
  • 1: [time] Image now downloaded from Flickr. Status: OK, in buffer. Size: 232KB
  • 2: [time] Image now uploading to Commons. Expected upload time for 232KB image: 2 seconds. (The last image upload (800KB) timed out after 5 minutes, and was probably not uploaded. The image before that (40KB) took 1 second to successfully upload.
  • 3: [time] Image upload to Commons complete. Commons status: [the real status]

Flickr upload tool feature request or minor bug report

I'm regularly fishing for remaining HTML stuff in the imported description, that could have been converted to wiki markup automatically. So I'd like to see the tool convert those <i>, <a href="...">...</a> and stuff, maybe also escaped characters like &.--Natr (talk) 18:05, 31 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Upload problem

Hi Bryan, I forgot the file extension for these two images, and so images were not uploaded:

How can I fix it? or can you fix it for me? Sorry for my mistake. Thanks in advance! --Rotpunkt (talk) 14:58, 2 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I have added the speedydelete template and then I have reloaded them. --Rotpunkt (talk) 20:56, 2 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Upload problem

Hi, I have used the Flickr upload bot for two images, and it seems they have not uploaded for some reason. They are:

It was done yesterday and others have uploaded since then successfully which is why I was concerned. Any help would be great. Thanks, Editor5807speak 18:09, 3 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Exemption?

Hi, I previously sent an email but maybe there is a page watcher that can provide an exemption from the 24 images/hour limit? I have a helpful script that I created that sorts out naming and adds extra Flickr info with the intention of a moderate sized batch upload (c. 600 images) from the Boston Public Library. If I can have an exemption then the upload will be pretty straightforward. Examples at:

It was done, the first, yesterday, and the second, today. Others have uploaded since then successfully which is why I was concerned. Any help would be great. Thanks. Dorieo (talk) 19:28, 3 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
