Ardahan is a city in north-eastern Turkey on the Georgian border and it is the seat of Ardahan Province. Its historical names include Ардаган (Ardagan) in Russian, Արդահան in Armenian, and in Georgian . With a population of 17,274 (2000 census) it is the smallest provincial capital in Turkey. The city is renowned for its kaşar (kashar) cheese and its Castle, and the surrounding region for its ski resorts and other medieval castles.
