Tarbiat Moallem University of Tehran(Khwarizmi) (Persian: دانشگاه تربيت معلم تهران) is a major institution of higher education in Tehran, Iran, offering a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs in a variety of disciplines. It started work in 1919 as the Central Teachers Institute (the oldest institution of higher education in Iran) and, over a series of developments, finally gained university status as Tarbiat Moallem University of Tehran in 1974.

Today the university is one of the largest in Iran with faculties of Science, Engineering, Mathematical & Computer Sciences, Letters and Humanities, Psychology & Education, Physical Education & Sport Sciences and Chemistry[1]. The university's second campus in Hesarak near Karaj, opened in 1986.

Campuses

The university has two campuses, one in downtown Tehran and one in Hesarak, to the west of Karaj. The Tehran campus, the main site of the university since its inception in 1919, is mostly used for postgraduate education. The Hesarak campus is mostly used for undergraduate education.
