Stefanos Tsitsipas (Greek: Στέφανος Τσιτσιπάς; Russian: Стефанос Циципас; born 12 August 1998) is a professional tennis player from Greece and the current Greek No. 1. Tsitsipas is a former junior No. 1.
Tsitsipas has a career high ATP singles ranking of 69 achieved on 2 April 2018[2], which makes him the best Greek male tennis player in the Open Era and the only one to have been ranked in the top 100. On 24 July 2017, he peaked at world number 315 in the ATP doubles rankings. Tsitsipas has won a total of five ITF singles Futures titles as well as six ITF doubles Futures titles so far in his career. His main career highlights include being the junior number 1 in the world. Tsitsipas has also had many successful matches on the junior tour, winning The Boy's Wimbledon doubles event with his partner Kenneth Raisma in 2016.
Tsitsipas is the son of a Greek father, Apostolos Tsitsipas and a Russian mother, former pro-tennis player Julia Apostoli.[3][4][5][6] His grandfather, Sergei Salnikov, was a Soviet football player and manager.
Tennis career
2013–2015: Two Orange Bowl finals
Stefanos was a finalist at the Orange Bowl in both 2014 and 2015 losing to Stefan Kozlov and Miomir Kecmanović, respectively.
2016: Junior Wimbledon doubles title, junior No. 1 and turning pro
Tsitsipas is a former world number one junior tennis player. His junior highlights include winning the Trofeo Bonfiglio, a 'Grade A'[7] event in Milan, Italy. He is the winner of the Boys' Doubles at the 2016 Wimbledon Championships together with Kenneth Raisma, thus becoming the second male Greek tennis player to win a Grand Slam title at any division and the first one in the Open Era, with the first male Greek tennis player in history to win a Grand Slam title being Nicky Kalogeropoulos, the winner of the 1963 Roland Garros and Wimbledon boys' singles tournaments.
2017: Grand Slam debut, first Challenger title and Top 100
He made his Grand Slam debut at the French Open where he beat Thomas Fabbiano, Gleb Sakharov and Oscar Otte to qualify for the main draw, where he lost to Ivo Karlovic in straight sets. He repeated this achievement at Wimbledon as he beat Santiago Giraldo, Yannick Hanfmann and Joris De Loore to join the main draw, only to lose to Dušan Lajović in straight sets once again.In the 2017 Next Gen ATP Finals, he qualified for the finals as an alternate.
