Its fantastic to see the S&C Squad Gym at UCC Mardyke being utilised by Cork Camogie for their new Player Development Pathway programme. Our design for this project delivered a low-carbon solution, and now its so rewarding to see the facility supporting community wellbeing and development. It’s great to see the gym actively contributing to the growth of local talent. Congratulations to Cork Camogie on their continued success. It looks like they are putting the gym to the test! The OCMA designed 100-bed Dublin Simon Community Medical Residential Treatment and Recovery Centre on Ushers Island, along the South Quays in Dublin, is nearing completion. This Simon Community facility is a ground-breaking project and represents a step change in the facilities available to the Dublin Simon Community's in supporting those facing addiction, mental health challenges, and homelessness. We look forward to its completion and the positive impact it will have on the local and wider community. During our recent office site visit, the OCMA team gave an insightful tour of the facility, discussing how the design was developed in close consultation with the wonderful staff at Dublin Simon. The team examined how the building integrates seamlessly into the urban context, while the internal configurations and materials were carefully chosen to meet the specific needs of the facility, aimed at improving health outcomes for vulnerable individuals.

We are delighted to share that Hanna Kickham, Associate Director at OCMA, recently delivered an insightful online seminar at the The Centre for Excellence in Universal Design (CEUD). Her presentation focused on the significant benefits of integrating universal design principles into building design. Hanna's presentation underscored the advantages of these principles for individuals of all ages and abilities, illustrated through compelling examples, with a particular focus on the National Rehabilitation Hospital, which won the RIAI Universal Design Award in 2021. We’d like to congratulate Filip Vanas, the latest architect in OCMA to successfully complete his Professional Practice Exams and receive his Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland (RIAI) Membership Certificate. How fitting that our Managing Director, Sean Mahon, the current President of the RIAI, had the honour of presenting him with his Certificate. Well done Filip.

OCMA are delighted to share that we have been shortlisted for an RIAI award for the UCC Mardyke Arena Strength & Conditioning Gym and we would appreciate your vote in the public Choice award. https://lnkd.in/eXcrRZn OCMA aim to lead by example in promoting sustainability in design and construction practices to achieve RIAI Climate Challenge targets by 2030. In Particular we wish to increase our awareness and understanding of embodied carbon within the construction process and reduce embodied carbon in all our projects. We were excited to be afforded the opportunity by our client in UCC to measure the embodied carbon of the recently completed Gym project. The project utilized glulam and Cross laminated timber construction technologies with much off site fabrication. Following our LCA analysis we were delighted to discover that the building bettered the RIAI Climate Challenge 2030 target for embodied Carbon.( 538 kgC02e/m2 achieved versus an industry standard benchmark of 1000 kgC02e/m2 ie in excess of 40% target reduction). The use of timber is not just low in carbon; it can really deliver a high quality architectural solution. We simply love the look & feel of the timber. We are looking forward to sharing future posts on OCMA’s path to Net Zero Carbon.

Lovely to see the outcome of the ongoing community engagement initiative on the Children's Hospital Project. The National Paediatric Hospital Development Board and BAM UK & Ireland worked in collaboration with the National College of Art & Design to create an animation based on the new hospital. The winning animation, created by the talented NCAD students, beautifully portrays the essence of our shared vision for the hospital and the significance of nature in healthcare. Take a moment to watch 'The Fox That Brings Flowers' and join us in acknowledging the talent and collaborative effort involved. #OCMA #Design #Community #Animation #ChildrensHospital
The winning animation of a competition with the new children’s hospital has been premiered in National College of Art & Design. Sponsored by BAM UK & Ireland & the Community Benefit Programme and run in partnership with NCAD's Studio+ year, it aimed to engage local college students with the project. The winning concept, The Fox That Brings Flowers, was developed by students Jamie Craig, Myla Sirvyte, Robin Rösing and Grace O’Reilly. The charming animation depicts a curious fox, who explores the new children’s hospital against the backcloth of the busy construction site. As he explores, he leaves a trail of grass and native plants behind for patients and families, representing the important role nature plays in the hospital. The new children’s hospital’s Community Benefit Programme was established to ensure that surrounding communities benefit from the new children’s hospital. Its main aims are to maximise employment and training opportunities, to support local business, particularly small and social enterprises, and to raise aspirations through education and to build community health and wellbeing. The winning animation will live on NPHDB, CHI and BAM digital channels. Sincere thanks to John Paul Dowling Head of NCAD’s Communication Design Department and Ed McGinley, Lecturer at NCAD Moving Image Design course for their engagement and support on the animation project. We invite you to take 2 minutes out of your day to watch the beautiful animation.

Happy to share our recent team effort for workplace wellbeing! We organised team breakfasts in both our Cork and Dublin offices to support the Irish Architects Benevolent Society (IABS). Following our gatherings, we visited the National Gallery of Ireland for the 'Silent City' exhibition and the museum at Nano Nagle Place in Cork. Recognising the power of art to enhance happiness, creativity, and emotional intelligence, these visits were also an opportunity to foster a positive work environment within our team. #OCMA #Architecture #OfficeLife #Teamwork #WellnessAtWork #Wellbeing #WorkplaceWellbeing

OCMA is pleased to announce our ongoing collaboration with Bon Secours Health System Ireland CLG, this time at their Tralee campus. We're currently progressing with the construction of a new surgical day-ward, led by main contractor Eamon Costello Kerry Ltd. This significant project involves not only replacing the existing day ward but also introducing a new entrance foyer, minor procedures rooms, and support services. The development aims to integrate the busy theatre block with the consultants clinic while enhancing accessibility with a new entrance plaza to Baloonagh Road. #OCMA #Architecture #Design #Site #Healthcare #HeathcareDesign #Construction #Building
