Changing lives through recycling. Extended Producer Responsibility & Circular Economy Initiatives.

About us

Plastics For Change collects discarded plastic from the environment and converts it into recycled materials that consumers love. We are proud to be the largest source of fair trade verified recycled plastic. Our tech and small scale infrastructure connects waste collectors with global brands to replace the use of fossil fuel based plastic. This initiative is all about creating better livelihoods for the ultra poor and preventing plastic from entering the ocean. We have been helping brands like The Body Shop and L'Oréal create a social impact through recycling since 2016. We have a proven track record of helping brands increase their market share by engaging consumers in authentic cause marketing campaigns. Similar to fair trade agriculture, our platform creates transparency and accountability from the base of the supply chain to the manufacturer. This results in more efficient shared-value chains and higher quality recycled plastic. We provide expertise to help brands and manufacturers to replace the use of virgin plastic with ethically sourced recycled plastic, thereby immediately improving the social and environmental impact of their products. Talk to any specialist/subject mater expert long enough, and inevitably they will throw a little acronym you might not be familiar with into the conversation. Plastics For Change invited me to present a short masterclass on some of these lovely sounding acronyms (e.g. #EPR for funding #DRS, so that we can meet #SUPd targets - all clear?), and to throw some light on what it means to comply in the current European legislative landscape. New to plastics recycling? Been around for a while but still can't tell EFSA from FDA, and standards from regulations? 👉 Register for free: https://lnkd.in/ezvgkhBD 📅 Date: September 26, 2024 🕒 Time: 9am (GMT - 4) / 3PM EU time / 2pm UK time #recycledplastics #sustainability #regulations #packaging #masterclass #plasticsforchange #icis

What an incredible journey it’s been working alongside Ocean Bottle since 2021! Together, we’re not just tackling plastic pollution, but we’re also helping people like Razak take control of their future. Seeing her grow from an informal scrap shop owner to a certified MSME businesswoman is exactly why we do this work. With our collection centre in Pondicherry and initiatives like this, we’re empowering waste collectors and fighting plastic pollution at the same time. It’s a reminder that real change happens when we lift people up. Thank you, Ocean Bottle, for standing with us and making this impact possible. #SocialImpact #Sustainability #Empowerment #CircularEconomy #PlasticsForChange #OceanBottle

Founder and Co-CEO at Ocean Bottle | BCorp | Forbes 30 Under 30 | 1.5 billion bottles collected in weight & counting 🌊

Plastics For Change has been one of our plastic collection partners since 2021. They’re an incredible organisation creating social impact through recycling. We joined them on their mission to reduce pollution and poverty while transitioning the industry to an inclusive circular economy. One of the highlights of our partnership? Together, we launched our first dedicated Ocean Bottle collection centre, along with collection points across the Pondicherry region in India. This initiative not only helps tackle plastic pollution but also supports the livelihoods of local waste collectors. Today, I wanted to share Razak's story, a scrap shop owner in Mangalore. Scrap shops like Razak's are informal collection points where communities bring plastic waste. Often operating without formal health and safety protocols or legal recognition, these shops are vital to the recycling chain, acting as the first step in pre-sorting plastics and in preventing plastic from entering rivers & waterways and flowing into the ocean. Yet, a lack of funding means there are often no incentives to collect low value plastics and the lack of formal structure often limits their potential. Through a series of training workshops with Plastics for Change, Razak gained essential skills in financial literacy, accounting, and health & safety. She also received her Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprise (MSME) certificate—a game-changing milestone for her business. This official certification has enabled her to open a bank account, apply for business loans, and save for future investments. Razak's journey is a powerful reminder of how formalising informal economies can transform lives. With her MSME certification, she's not only growing her business but also creating a brighter future for herself and her community. Together with Plastics for Change, we've helped collect over 9.4 million kg of ocean-bound plastic to date, while empowering individuals like Razak to thrive. At Ocean Bottle, one of our Impact Pillars is Social Good. We know tackling issues like plastic pollution requires holistic approaches that prioritise the well-being of local communities affected by these challenges. We can’t do this without our plastic collection partners and the communities that we work with all over the world.

Update: New Rules for Environmental Compensation from CPCB The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) has made important updates to the Plastic Waste Management Rules, which will affect how fines are calculated for violations. These changes are now in effect as of August 2024.  What’s New: Previously, there was a flat rate of ₹5,000 per metric ton for all categories. Now, the rates are: Category I: ₹2,900 per metric ton Category II: ₹5,000 per metric ton Categories III & IV: ₹7,900 per metric ton  What This Means: These changes show a stronger push towards sustainability. If your business deals with plastic waste, it’s more important than ever to follow the rules and avoid hefty fines. Let’s all do our part to support a cleaner environment. For more details, visit the CPCB website or talk to your compliance advisor. #Sustainability #PlasticWaste #GreenInitiatives #CPCB #CorporateResponsibility#PlasticsForChange
