A huge thank you to Haumoana School's passionate and knowledgeable Garden to Table Charitable Trust students, teachers and volunteers for hosting some of our T&G whānau last Friday. Sharing our green-thumbed knowledge with Aotearoa’s tamariki is something we love doing and our T&G team and independent growers have been fortunate to visit local primary schools to share tips and techniques and provide an insight into what it’s like working on orchards and farms across the country.

Did you know that in 2023 alone, our partnership with Garden to Table Charitable Trust helped enable more than 32,000 tamariki across early childhood education centres, primary and intermediate schools to learn to grow and cook (not to mention eat!) nearly 1.3 million meals? That’s a lot of kai! 🥗 Here’s to growing healthier futures together.

A massive congratulations to Grace Fulford in our Hawke’s Bay growing team for winning the 2024 Hawke’s Bay Young Fruit Grower of the Year competition last week. Grace has been part of the T&G whānau since 2021 and will now go on to represent T&G and the Hawke’s Bay growing community in the national Young Grower of the Year competition in October. Congratulations again Grace, we’re so proud of you!

At Garden to Table Charitable Trust, it’s all about empowering tamariki to grow, harvest, prepare and share great food. The programme helps kiwi kids take charge in the kitchen and garden, fosters teamwork, responsibility and a love for fresh, seasonal food. Here at T&G Global, we’re proud to be part of Garden to Table’s journey for 10 years and counting! 🌱

The installation of retractable thermal screens in our Geraghty glasshouses in Tūākau is the latest milestone on our pathway to reduce carbon emissions across our business. If the installation performs as expected, we hope to see an approximate 29% reduction in annual emissions from the site and a 5% reduction in our company-wide emissions. Earlier this week we had the absolute pleasure of celebrating our 2024 recipient of the T&G First Foundation four-year scholarship; Nevaeh Pereira. Nevaeh, who is in her final year of high school at St Mary’s College, is an exceptional student and heavily involved in service initiatives in her community. Welcome to the T&G whānau! Nevaeh is the fourth rangatahi we’ve supported through First Foundation and this year also marks 25 years of their incredible kaupapa. First Foundation is committed to unleashing the potential of talented young New Zealanders from all backgrounds with life-changing education and support and we couldn’t be prouder to partner with them. #generationofimpact

The last two months have been incredibly busy for our Hawke’s Bay apples team who’ve been harvesting our crop and supporting our independent growers across the country to do the same. Following our first pōwhiri in 2022/23, in March we welcomed our Recognised Seasonal Employer (RSE) team members to Aotearoa for the 2023/24 season. Our RSE team are a key part of our T&G whānau, spending up to nine months with us to help with thinning, harvesting and winter pruning. Hosted by Ngāti Kahungunu, our pōwhiri at Matahiwi Marae was a wonderful ceremony and celebration, with our RSE teams from Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Vanuatu and the Solomon Islands participating in whaikōrero and sharing their cultures with attendees. A heartfelt thank you to everyone for their care and support of our RSE team. Sandra Hazlehurst To’osavili Nigel Bickle Horticulture New Zealand New Zealand Apples and Pears

Following the June 2023 launch of JOLI™, our new global premium apple variety, it’s fantastic to see the harvest on our Hawke’s Bay test blocks concluding this past week. JOLI™, which will be available for consumers to enjoy from 2028 onwards, is a delicious, large, full-flavoured bright red juicy apple. Over ten years of innovation went into creating this unique variety, which joins our premium portfolio of Envy™ and JAZZ™. We’re extremely pleased with how the first crop has developed thanks to ideal apple growing conditions, with the fruit delivering great premium quality attributes. While JOLI™ is still a few years off being available on supermarket shelves, it’s an exciting milestone to reach as commercial plantings begin to scale in New Zealand. Great mahi team!
