Sweet and sour chicken is an American Chinese food. It is made out of fried, battered chicken covered with sauce.[1] The sauce was invented by Chinese chefs in the United States of America in the 1800s.[2]

This sauce usually includes canned pineapple juice, vinegar, ketchup and spices.[1] Other versions of sweet and sour chicken are eaten around the world, especially in Asia.[3]
