🏃♀️ If trade shows and conferences are marathons then IBC - International Broadcasting Convention is an Ironman. I've just returned from my first since 1994 and what an incredible experience it was.
🥐 IBC has an intensity about it - people are there to buy, to connect, to solve problems and to share knowledge, research and opportunities. There are papers that push forward the boundaries of knowledge in our industry and deep (and sometimes not so deep) conversations that start with breakfast meetings and end late at night in bars.
💪 Amongst all the exciting and fast moving developments in connectivity, cloud production and AI, the theme I spent the most time with was (unsurprisingly) media provenance. It was so heartening to see the interest it generated. As the excellent Claudia Milne put it, we have to get used to our first question when faced with a news story not being 'why did it happen?' or 'how did it happen?' but 'did it happen?'
🗞 The conversation about provenance, detection and collaboration is now a very live one - let's continue to turn it into actions which gives our content the protection it deserves.
🎉 Huge congratulations Mark Smith and team on a brilliantly run show full of inspiration and plans for action. And thanks to provenance, detection and #C2PA collaborators from across the globe. LinkedIn says I've run out of @s, such is the overwhelming support and investment in this work, so I'll put them in the comments :-) but on a personal level, thanks to Andrew Jenks, Andy Parsons, Judy Parnall, Helge O. Svela and the wonderful MC crew, Helge Høibraaten, Claudia Milne, Tilly Farmery, Tim Forrest, Ross Dagan, Raymundo Barros, Sherif Hanna, Sergej Stoppel, Ph.D., Giovanni Severini, Jules Cassano, Brendan Quinn, Casey Spellman, David Hoad, Nick Brown, Nadia Ahmed, Michelle Munson, André Torsvik, Will Kreth, Tami Hoffman, Nick Brown, Allan McLennan and Chris Black for making it such a blast. We're definitely doing a thing 😁
I've added a link to our disinformation session below but do explore the IBC website for more, including papers on C2PA delivered by the inestimable John Simmons and Judy Parnall
